Poetic license may ruffle some feathers. For me, it's the circular cards I'd have trouble with rolling away under the bed or elsewhere making them impossible for me to retrieve. The expanded perspectives are interesting. Good release time for this deck. Wouldn't it be a great idea to order a second copy to hole punch and use as ornaments to decorate a Christmas tree?
I love, love love the round format! I think the art is enhanced by being enclosed in a circle. Like you said, it gives the reader room to breath. Thanks Simon. I’m going to get it!
Great review, thank you! I will probably get this deck at some point, tho I have to say it’s a shame the artist used the later edition as a template, not the version from 1971, in which the colours are more vivid (frankly less depressing). For example, the sky in many of the cards of the new edition is grey. In the print from 1971 the sky is a cheerful blue.
This was fascinating ! Thanks for pointing out that building in the Fool, as I always assumed it was just part of the mountain lol This is a very nice deck, love the new perspective : )
SIMON I really Like it . I normally don't like Round decks ,but this Deck opens up Pixies Artwork and gives me a feeling like I'm Peering through a whole New World ,like a Window or into a Portal of a expansion of Pixies Expression of what her Cards could have been if they were Round . I just Purchased this Deck . Thank you Hugs Caroline 😘❤
Liked this deck Simon, didn’t think I would ever consider a round deck at all! Spotted the gecko right off and wondered how the heck he was staying on the flying wands!😂 Think the extra space on the round cards really opened up the cards to more interpretation somehow. As I say, never thought round would appeal but you’ve got me thinking now😜 Think you need to shoot the musicians that made the backing track to your walkthrough though!😫👍🙏😎
😝 you didn’t like the music? It makes me smile. Yes, I agree with everything you said. You really cannot tell where Pixie’s art ends and the other artists begin
I'm afraid I'm one of those terrible RWS HATERS who have just never liked Pixie's deck....I think it's the yellow colour as well as finding quite boring to be honest. I've been a reader of nearly forty years and I have to say that this round version is the closest I've ever come to "popping my cherry 🍒" with an RWS!!! I think it's a very original interpretation of the deck and the roundness does open up the image as well as drawing you into the story in a way that the classic cards do not. I certainly feel freer and I see it as far more feminine and intuitive. I'm going to add it to my wishlist and one day give it a try. Thank you Simon for an excellent insight into the deck.... you might just have turned me on to RWS....(just a teeny-weeny bit.
@@the_hermits_cave Hahahaha 🤣😂🤣😂 yes I suppose you've WON (Damn it! I've held out for so many decades and now I'm enthralled by a pesky round version). P.S. I've now just watched your vintage tarot review and decided I'd like that one even better as a round version than the 1909(I know, I'm just trying to be difficult).
Simon, do you think Pamela’s original art work could have been larger and cropped to fit the card stock used? Using the fool as an example maybe the whole of the building was there in the original artwork? Do we know the size of the original artwork? Do they even exist? Wonder if there is a definitive book about this out there.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Earlier this year I discovered Tarot of the Cloisters and quite enjoyed the round cards. I happened to be making dinner looking for something to watch and your run-through greatly intrigued me; I promptly ordered a deck (from a bookstore, rather than Amazon).
I love it, it allows the image to breathe and the 'circular window' as you put it, just gives you a different perspective. I also really love the bough of flowers, it in both the Knight of Cups (reminds me of the Lightseers Knight of cups with the flower bouquet) and in the 4 of swords. And I love the little salamander added in the 8 of wands referring us back to the King and that of being the fire elemental... I have to buy them now lol. I also really love the idea of the feminine energy coming into play with the circle... Thank you Simon so much, I really enjoy your walk throughs. Cheers from Australia
for me, these flower garlands stand for abundance that is add in from this person (e.g. knight of coins) and positive effects and also point to the positive side of "heavy" cards.
The dove and the sign is usually a symbol of the holy spirit. I guess it points on the inputs from the spirits world which gives us inspiration for our new opportunities.
Thanks for this. I’ve never been a ‘round deck’ person, and this one won’t change that, but it is interesting having that wider view. I do like some of the choices, but like you, others give me think, “huh?” That said, while I think it is quite creative, I think the biggest takeaway is that, as an artist, Pixie knew what psychological closure is. (ie:, cutting an image off to create a sense of imagination.) That, to me, is what is really missing in this deck and what takes away from the traditional rectangular cards. Thanks for this, though. I’ve often wondered about these. :)
Ooooooh, I am actually quite intrigued about that extra-fied round version from Lo Scarabeo! But then I quite like round decks and occasionally enjoy some novelty added to traditional decks without taking much away... I'm curious, Simon, now that you have had the round 1909 for a while, have you read with it much? How has your experience been?
Hi Simon,I never thought I would enjoy this Round deck but I really have it feels like the Camera lens has opened up and really added more space and meaning to the cards.Really like it maybe the World card a bit so so but really could be a purchase in the air.Ya know it makes my day when I find a video of yours so easy to listen to learn so much you really are the best. There we are shine your halo.👏♥️🌈😷🌟
They've got neighbors they have to contend with 😝😆That is exactly what i was thinking. I really like it all in all though because there is more image to work with. Not so Keene on the round part but i think i can deal with it because there is more image and different perspectives to work with. I don't like how Pixie's signature is not consistent. That's a little strange but i do like the cards. Don't get why they added Gecko's maybe it will come to me. Thank you for sharing Simon🥰Also love, love, love your Beautiful cloth ! That was made with love 💗Much love and many Blessings !
@@the_hermits_cave Yes, Such a lovely Heartfelt gift from Shauna 🥰 Absolutely Beautiful work. I would love one of those, Does she have a shop do you know ?
Though I enjoy your walkthroughs, they aren’t enough. Knowing that your an avid collector of decks, I can normally depend on your channel to have a video on the deck in particular. But your videos doesn’t have enough info. I don’t need to see every single card in the deck (especially not RWS) I want to know how the deck feels to shuffle (all forms of shuffling), how the deck is to read with, maybe an example of a Celtic cross reading (great way to see more cards), overall thoughts and how it compares to other decks you’ve seen. We actually want to use the cards, not go through each card like a picture book. Use the cards! Test them out! Let’s us know. Because it’s not like we can return the cards once we’ve opened them. :(
@@alixh2201 C'est un très bon point sur la sugature. bien sûr, ce n'est pas le travail exact de Pamela et la signature pourrait donc être considérée comme frauduleuse. Merci d'avoir fait remarquer cela.
I quite love it! Some details bother me, things could have been arranged better composition wise to fit with the circle, like the little stars in The Star, the pentacles in the 6, the 4 elements in Wheel & World, but still, lovely deck! If they ever release a mini version I'd get it. Also, pretty sure the dove detail is a Golden Dawn and/or OTO symbol, something like divine love descending onto the world from above. I could be wrong though.
Thanks for showing this! I found that I had mixed reactions to the expansion of the artwork to support the circular card design. Some of them I thought were great, while others I found to be a bit awkward. (I'm commenting before the video is over...so guessing you'll likely say something similar...lol.)
Interesting idea about the energy and the shapes, not sure if it's necessary but interesting none the less. I actually like this shape better than the original, if they release a centennial or the Tarot Vintage in this shape I'll be in trouble. :D

I trimmed the borders on these circular cards. It really changes everything. The cards become portals that expand interpretations.

Only the printing plates. This is why US Games had to add further artwork in for their borderless centennial

With the hermit card, the star was picked up from the lantern, which lights his way. so a very underlining effect.
