I am not a trapper, but I LOVE this content. I love how you are such a hard worker and are willing to share lots of information! Your channel is always informative and ethical. Thank you! Enjoy the great northern woods and be safe. I hope you catch lots of fisher and pine marten, Joe
When trapping, some days are more successful than others. I trap in Quebec Canada (even have a small channel called Musher's Tails) and marten are the "go too" for $. The Belisle 120's are my favorite marten trap due to the safeties and their ability to catch a fisher. Thanks for the video.
Good idea on the heater in vehicles and it’s true , once you get warm and step outside you get cold and more you warm up worse it gets cause you sweat alittle warming up then freezes when go outside and your cold , same with early in the winter or fall when weather dips alittle cold my dad always sad best to tough out early winter and not put to many clothes on and get your body use to the cold or so when it actually gets cold it won’t feel so bad and it works , don’t have to wear nearly as much when it’s actually cold out and I’m still warm , and can move , lol
A great video, you are burning the candle at both ends. I have to laugh I don’t run much heat and it’s not funny but my bride has the heat up and the seat warmer cranked.
Maybe those martins, weasels, and Fishers are tired of Partridge skin. As za kid I used to help the old trapper down the road with Mink, Racoon, Beaver, Bobcat, and Skunk. I wanted to do it but after awhile I disliked the smell of the pelts. The old man found a more reliable free source of skins with goats, calves, and even horses. He gave up the wild stuff but still kept busy. You brought back good memories with this one.
Great as always! Enjoy your mindset, always positive and how you convey that to all of us. Thanks and best of luck. Brings back a lot of memories as a kid trapping into adulthood. As like a lot of us stopped for obvious reasons (no fur market or low $$). Last time out was beaver trapping (2004ish) teaching my nephew, what his Grandfather (Bill Wilkinson) loved doing. It was nice to do once again, and now you have brought that feeling out again! Thank you!
Joe, I gotta tell ya finding your channel is a real godsend to me. I am in Massachusetts and going for my Problem Animal Control Agent Certificate and License. A lot of what I do is moving coyotes out of populated areas. Most of that handle with larger bore HPA Airguns (more than effective, and helps me skirt rifle laws and regs) to And elimination of pest birds. But I keep getting inquiries about removal of fisher cats, and that's going to require my using traps to be efficient. You show a great deal of technique and strategy.and that's gonna be a big help to me. So thanks!
Awesomee glad to be a help. A lot of people do well with fisher in live cage traps . Try some long distance call like skunk and use either rabbit-meat porcupine meat or a bird as bait
Hey Joe ! Having a heck of a season , some days are better than others that’s trappin. My mentor showed me a trick that used my weasel arches , try setting the trap in with the trigger close to the hole in the front so when they climb in the box they pretty much have to step down on the the pan if they get passed it they usually get caught in the way out trying to use the pan as a step . Looking forward to the next video bud . Thanks for taking us along
Yup, I strongly suggest turning the weasel trap so the pan is near the hole AND raising the actual hole an inch or two! The hole should be at a height that the weasel hops up and hops down on the pan vs crawling in and onto the pan. Makes a big difference in misses!
The sickest I have even been was from when I was working in the heat and getting in a crazy cold tractor cab for less than a minute. Big temperature changes on your body aren't good for you.
@@JoeHollandFishing Ok, yes others do use their catches as bait. Seems to work fine.. Little different weather in Alaska, but most do use there catches as bait. Plus others do the same in the lower 48. Try it out, it's better than feeding coyotes, if that's what you do with them... But of course unless your eating them! LOL 🤣🤣👍🏼
Good trappers are going to find the same covers or woods or habitat and eventually cross paths. It's pretty neat also how the woods kinda guide us all together,
That’s what’s fascinating to me, you guys know what you’re looking for as to where to set and it makes that giant area of the state not so giant anymore. Similar to setting lobster traps it’s a giant ocean but good fishermen are going to be bumping into each other. Loving the trapping content though Joe. I haven’t been up there for a few years but you running these roads brings me back and makes me miss it. Nothing better! If you’re ever up around 9 mile or Churchill dam hit that record button, such a cool part of the state!
I have thought about that. To get the marten to take that last step would never work with hardware cloth there. Trail cams have opened my eyes big time to how they are around the bait and trap. Stay tuned for those vids.
That brand of Coni-bear : has had tons of misses? I’d definitely Upgrade to a Better Trap! Too many misses Sure Add up : with Gas Prices so High! Feel for you man especially when on camera. Barry Deacon Mb. Canada 🇨🇦
Great point! Next year I will have everything dialed in much better. I am liking the BelIsles from Canada and trying the other company they bought, The Bridgers are bad, The Dukes are Ok and Old victors are fine as long as the springs have life.
I don't think the comment of want to be cops is quite correct. They are a federal agent and can enforced almost any law and if they can't enforce that law there will be the proper authorized authorities to enforce that law there within an hour.

makes perfect sense to me!
Thanks for the video Joe! Some might not post a tough day on the trap line but you are willing to show us good and bad days! THANK YOU
Thanks for taking us along some days are good some not so good , we take the good with the bad thanks for keeping it real.
That was a funny story with the warden, bet he thought twice before he asked again lol.
Always!
It kept me chuckling to myself for a week
Keep on producing fur , your on a good pace to a great year.
Thanks, will do!
Awesome video, Joe! I love the “positivity” in everything you post!
Safe travels and good luck!
Another great video bud. You got couple martin. I had some laugh what you said you done with couple of those mice in your pocket.😅. Take care.
NICE another fun clip from Joe!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it

Yup I love that spot! There’s a fisher that’s going to be caught there!
Man I hope so.

I would love to move the trap up but our lynx restrictions make us put it at least 18 inches back from the nearest opening.
@ I meant in the weasel boxes I should have proof read my message lol fat fingers tiny keyboard 😂

consider going to a mink pan set up to decrease the misses. great vid
yes gonna work on some pans for next year might try a few this year .
Wonder if the coniber pans would help with your misses you can use a piece of cardboard for them
I bet they would!
You got some miles on that rig Joe
Wholly cow, 380k on the clock!
We don’t have Martin’s in southern New Hampshire
I’ve never seen one or heard of any Maybe up north??????
I would be surprised in NH maybe in the MT's
Beaver fleshing and caverns gusto is the best for me in minnesota
thank you
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video as always! Can’t wait to see the snow start to hit the ground. How long do you typically dry the furs for ?
marten will dry in a few hours , fisher, overnight, coyote a day or so.
Joe: thought you were going to move More traps To New Spots? Need to pick up another dozen or 18 more traps… just a suggestions!
I ended up moving some definitely need more traps.
The sickest I have even been was from when I was working in the heat and getting in a crazy cold tractor cab for less than a minute. Big temperature changes on your body aren't good for you.
Right on
Love to be able to do this...
same
Can you use the skun Martins for bait??
Ive heard of people doing it. I can't remember if I did it 18 years ago

@@quaileggsvermont Thank you, That fresh red meat must work good.
are you selling any of the weasels??
yes shoot over an email for any furs to jhprofishing@gmail.com
Dang it!! I can’t believe my spot didn’t produce!!!
Patience my friend, patience!
@@JoeHollandFishing did you add a little skunk to the set?..that’ll do the trick!..lol
Stay warm
will do
Joe, how can you tell from a distance it there has been activity at a trap?
Trap springs
I look at the trap springs sticking outside the box, if they are compressed and in the back there has been no trap action.
I'm interested in purchasing a Martin fur. How do I go about it?
Thank you please email jhprofishing@gmail.com
At 21:30 minutes how old was that Martin? Anyone answer if you know
I think the biologists do teeth samples for age
Crazy to think you’re in a million acre forest and bumping into people like that. Way she goes I suppose!
Well he’s been trapping there for 8 years and Joes the new guy. Probably the right thing to do.
Good trappers are going to find the same covers or woods or habitat and eventually cross paths. It's pretty neat also how the woods kinda guide us all together,

If I was you, I would take a circle saw cut a slot between the trap and bait so I could slide hardware cloth down between bait and trap.
I have thought about that. To get the marten to take that last step would never work with hardware cloth there. Trail cams have opened my eyes big time to how they are around the bait and trap. Stay tuned for those vids.
375k on that old girl..god damn! I have a 2012 suburban 2500 with 147k and I hope to take it to 220k. Another 10yrs for my use.
for sure!

you just passed a chunk of chaga at 607 of the video
very true I have a lot and a lot in my memory where it's located in the woods, I will shoot a vid on it coming up.
Great story about the warden, they train them here in MN the same way to keep bantering you until you cave. Wanna be cops.
I've had almost entirely great experiences with wardens. This guy was busting my stones I think.

Don't shoot a fox with a 30-06 for fur. Trust me.
