Brings back some memories. Fresh out of post grad, married, two kids, no money and in need of a car. Bought an oil burning 1976 Grand Marquis for $600. What a beast. Drove it for a year or so and sold it for $650. Only car I ever made money on! The Grand Fury looks like a fun project car.

I got given a '76 Valiant V8 sedan a few years back due to my reputation. In May I got a '69 BB Dart. In June? I was given an '89 GF AHB car the guy bought at auction in '92/'93. From the desert, complete, no rot, and never wrecked...

I have the exact same car, color and everything but mine is an 84. I'm doing the same thing, making a police car tribute. So far I removed the vinyl roof and put the correct wheels and dog dish hub caps. I also installed wig wag lights for the headlights and a siren. I'm doing mine as an unmarked unit. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Reason the fuel gauge pod is half empty is because back then when you didnt check an option they left the pod etc empty..Key goes the right way,GM is upside down :)

i have a 87 dodge diplomat with a 318 and I'm running stainless Ebay A body headers and a stainless Pypes brand A body Dart dual exhaust....You will need to move the gas tank to the passenger side to make room for the drivers side exhaust pipe...and yes ditch the lean burn and ad aluminum intake and 4bbl.....

Very much like the Ford Granada and Lincoln Versaille. Granada was my first car. Talk about a chock magnet! That's a nice ride dude. 👌 wifey is right, as always, about the color. You know, there were gold police cars too. Might be something to look at. That rear package tray is made of "hard board".

Check out Allpar and For FMJ Bodies only on these cars. People have used A-Body headers on these and say they fit well. My 88 Fifth Avenue had all the suspension bushings rotted away too, yours look like brand new compared to mine lol. It looked like you have the 7.25 differential, which is pretty weak if you're looking to get more oompf out of it. I'm with you on the gold, although it does go nice on the Fifth Ave. Firm Feel, Inc. sells just about all you need for steering and suspension and also makes upgraded components for both. Glad to see what you do with it.

lose the wheels and the la v8,swap on some cop car rims and tires, and throw a Magnum 318 out of a truck in with a 4bbl intake and carb and drive the Snot out of it.
hardest part for you is gonna be those trim pieces, theres Studs on the body that will have to be ground Off if you are gonna paint it.
also, your wife is right, there was and still is Tons of cop cars in black and white but a Detectives car in gold will Always stand out.
    just think about it ;)
ps,feel free to ask any questions, ive owned around ten of these and just sold a 2 door lebaron model and my buddy owns 3 of them.
ps,the Best thing you can do to that car cheaply,is to Swap the rearend out for a Better Gear ratio.
these came with some Garbage 2:25 ratio...a B-body rearend will slide right in,or you can go crazy and swap a ford 8.8 rear in.

My father had a couple of these cars.... The first was an '86 Gran Fury.. It was gray with a silver vinyl roof... The second one was an '87 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. It was all silver.... They're pretty nice cars. By the way, I'm also a GM guy

If you are still looking for a Chrysler factory radio for this grand fury there's a guy who reconditions them new lights clean up the electrical contact switches knobs and slides, and replace the belts if needed and the the panel lights switched to new LEDs and all solder connections inside checked and reflowed if needed and then fully tested i have gotten the premium infinity by Chrysler am fm CD player cassette tape player stereo from him for $80 shipped and it all works great and the leds all light up bright and eq slides work and the ends illuminated great, and the inside of the stereo has been cleaned...its what i have had in my 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 318 magnum V8 4x4, and that was 4 years ago when I bought it

And my interior is decent minus the dash,, it has a decent console on the front seat one of my favorite features of it,, and the headliner is in good shape, and the rear left door doesn't open the lower latch is frozen i need to swap new ones in the bottom on both sides.. and are you going to do exhaust experiments like glass pack or straight pipe lol

I'm a Mopar and Ford man myself and I must congratulate you for getting a Mopar, probably means you're tired of taking it from behind with a shitvrolet...🤣
I've got a gold 85 Chrysler fifth avenue and a gunmetal blue 85 Plymouth Grand fury, the Grand fury is an x Daytona Beach detective's car and the guy I bought it from had the engine built at the speed shop down there got rid of the lean burn crap and built it with performance in mind was better than stock heads long tube headers and a 650 demon carb full dual exhaust and pulled 904 trans in favor of 4 speed automatic with a shift kit and 8.25 posi traction outback it makes right at 350 horses to the rear wheels and it is a blast on the road.
Now that you got a Mopar you need to get you a Ford and then you'll be able to prove that you definitely like girls 🤣🤣🤣

  • @christopherg9806

Question: Why not just keep it stock and make it an "unmarked" car. The problem with making a police car tribute is that: 1) It has the plush SE interior, which police cars never had. 2) It doesn't have the reinforced unibody or heavy duty suspension. 3) It doesn't have the certified 125 mph speedometer or the extra large alternator. It's your car and I'm glad you're saving it, but police car clones always look wrong to me.

Please don't make it a police car! I would keep it original. Making it a police car is pointless.
