Hey Greer, Yeah....last year was pretty extreme for lots of reasons not the least of which is the number of riders. I'm hoping with less riders this year, the traffic congestion will be better. We'll miss you in Iowa. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Great video.. I can't believe we are 6 weeks away from RAGBRAI. I will watch you first video. This is my first RAGBRAI and I will be driving. I chose Pork Belly Ventures. I will be staying at Omaha hotel that PBV has set up for out of towners. Will be arriving Thursday July 18. I am so excited. Hope to meet You, Brently, and Disco Doggie
Hey Phyllis, Thanks for watching and we're happy you enjoyed it. Yep...RAGBRAI is coming like a freight train and so is Triple Bypass ride. :( We are so excited for you to experience your first RAGBRAI and we can't wait to meet you. I'm sure we'll see you at PBV camp but please come to our meet up on Saturday at Expo which we'll be publicizing on our Instagram page. Also, if someone else hasn't already volunteered, we'd love to be the ones to mark the back of you calf with the obligatory newbie identification. :) See you soon. Enjoy the Ride
OMG, I love this. I just posted a link on ragbrai Newbies page under my alias FB name HaHa. I spoke to Duzer & Terry Mackel last year, but weren't able to find you. After watcjhing the 2023 video, I undertstand why. But this year, I will find you all, and the craft beer is on me. I love the videos, in fact I've probably watched the packing video 200 times, so I'm glad you included it here again.
Hey Jim, Thanks for the comment and we're happy to hear you like this episode. We'd really appreciate you sharing it on the RAGBRAI Newbies FB page. We believe there is some good reminders for helping keep the route safe. We're hoping folks share it as much as possible. Sorry we missed you last year but as you know, it was a tough year for us. We'd love to connect with you this year. Please stay tuned to our IG page (@busesbikesbeers), we plan on communicating our location as much as we can as well as a meet up on Saturday at EXPO. We are also easy to see on the route. We'll be on the Red Dragon with Disco in his basket. Thanks again for the kind words and support. Enjoy the Ride
I read about RAGBRAI in the Readers' Digest in the 1980's and wanted to do it then. This will be my first RAGBRAI in 2024. Your video answers so many of my questions. Thank you! See you in Iowa
Hey Maureen, Sorry for the slow response. We're happy you found this episode useful and we hope you had a great experience in Iowa. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Heading out today for our state’s “cross state ride”, Oklahoma Freewheel. It starts tomorrow in beautiful Pawhuska, OK. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to seeing you in Iowa.
Hey Lance, We hope you are having a great time on the OK Freewheel. Seems like a good precursor to RAGBRAI. My parents were both from Oklahoma so maybe I should add this ride to our list of future events. I'd be interested to hear what your experience was. See you in Iowa. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Howdy, Glad you agree with that suggestion. It really is annoying to listen to those doors slam in the middle of the night. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Awesome video. Can't wait to see you guys again this year. The hardest part this year was deciding to not sign up for pork belly as the funds will be tight for a few more months. Be well.
Hey Dave, Glad you liked it. We are looking forward to seeing you in Iowa as well. Understand the tough decision about which RAGBRAI charter to use, but at least you'll be able to make it to Iowa. We'll figure out a way to connect. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
This will be my 13th year with PBV, It's the good life! I've never heard anyone else mention the emotions encountered on the the last day, last miles to the dip site. I cry every year, grown man, ugly crying. The waves of so many emotions come crashing in. Mostly, I'm really sad that we have to wait 51 weeks until the next RAGBRAI. See you in camp, I'll be in the beer line.
Hey Ed, It's great you've been with PBV for so many years, it's hard to think about RAGBRAI without their awesome support. This will be our 10th year with them. The only year we didn't experience the intense emotions on the last day of RAGBRAI was in 2022 when we included RAGBRAI as part of The Apollo Mission, our ride across North America. That year we got to keep riding our bikes. Looking forward to meeting you at camp. Enjoy the Ride
Hey TJ, Thanks for the feedback about this episode. We hope it helps folks be a bit more prepared and have a better time on RAGBRAI. Enjoy the Erie Canal, it was one of my favorite sections of The Apollo Mission. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
TJ, We are working on a way for viewers that won't be in Iowa to make a donation to our "beer fund", likely through Venmo and then we'll mail out a buff. Stay tuned as we plan on discussing it in a future episode. Also, send us an email at busesbikesbeers@gmail.com so we can make sure we get you on the list. Thanks! Enjoy the Ride
Hey Chris. We love it...thanks for watching the entire video, hopefully you found something either entertaining or interesting. :) Not sure I want to see myself on an 85" screen. LOL. Thanks for the support. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Howdy, Thanks for watching and for the comment. We did have a great and safe RAGBRAI and took lots of footage so please stay tuned for those episodes. Enjoy the Ride
You mentioned clothes pins, that is something I was missing last year. I never had dry kits to wear after they had been worn once. My daughter and I always rolled into camp just in time for dinner/shower. Clothes never had time to dry after shower/dew in the morning. I will use the laundry service next time!
Hey Mike, Yeah, the laundry service is a good thing if you really want to make sure your clothes get good and dry. Clothes pins are a good idea for other stuff you might not have time or don't want to send to the service. Glad you found something useful in this episode. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Hunter!! If you can't ride cause of rain, might as well watch BBB Adventures! We saw you shared this episode on FB...thanks for that. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
I don't know if you have looked in to camping gear lately, but for sleeping pads. They now all come with inflation sacks where you can blow up a full size sleeping pad in 6 or 7 breaths. And it is way lighter than a battery powered pump
Hey Wade, Good point on the inflation sacks. The bike packing mattress we took on The Apollo Mission has one of those and it does work well. The mattress we use on RAGBRAI isn't a light weight backpacking/bikepacking type, it's more like a car camping or even use in your house kind of air mattress. I wonder if the inflation sack would work well on those type mattress as well. Thanks for the comment. And thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
My first time this year and I had a fabulous time riding though by day 3 I had to abandon the trip due to lack of sleep. I did not survive the tent life Pork belly had all the tent lined up very close to each other to the point that even to open the zipper of the tent I had to do it slowly hoping not to disturb next door. I would like to do it again next year but I need to explore the option of indoor accommodation .I noticed that I believed at day 2 there were people sleeping in the church. st Mary’s . Any idea of indoor accommodation for the next year ride . This video is very helpful and informative Thank you new sub here.
Hi Cecille, Welcome to BBB Adventures and thanks for the comment. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, as you know it's been a busy summer. Glad you made it through Day 3 and happy to hear you enjoyed the riding. Sorry to hear you had problems sleeping. Rest is so important. I do believe Pork Belly has indoor sleeping options for most nights, not sure if it's all nights. Sometimes it's in hotels and they have a shuttle that takes campers to the hotel after dinner. When PBV starts sending out communications towards the end of this year, you can look for those options. You mentioned in another comment about maybe bringing your own tent, I also think that is a good thing for you to consider. Glad you enjoyed this episode and glad to have you as a subscriber. We are working on our RAGBRAI 2024 series now and will publish the first episode tomorrow. Please stay tuned. Enjoy the Ride
The left side of the road stops are a real B. Sorry, but if the road isn't clear, I ride on. Unless it's Beekmans! 🙂 P.S. One year in Mason City, IA our team found a very nice spot at the City Park RAGBRAI campground, porta-loos were on the other side of the road. Convenient, right! Nope. The porta-loo doors slammed all-night-long, especially after the Bret Michaels Concert. So, every rose does have its thorns. LOL
Hey Craig, Beekman's does motivate one to do what it takes to be able to stop and stand in line for some delicious peach ice cream. Great story about camping near KYBOs. It's amazing how annoying the door slamming is in the middle of the night. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
