- If you're looking for EXTREMELY cold winter camping/snowshoeing action, then look no further. In this 3K Subscriber Special, I put myself to the test by staying out overnight in a tarp at -33°C (-27°F).
I venture off snowshoeing (TSL Symbioz Elite Snowshoes hyperflex) by the riverside with my pulk sled to find a decent spot to pitch a tarp. Once I found my ideal location, I started packing down the ground with my snowshoes. After I was satisfied with the area being packed, I then set up my tarp in a 3 sided (3x) Pyramid Fly, with my hiking pole as the support.
Once that was done, collected wood and kindling. Before starting the fire, I did a quick snowshoe on the river to check out the scenery. Once back I lit the fire and started cooking.
For supper I ended up cooking farmers sausage and a can of beans. While that is cooking I tell you guys what I'm all wearing as the weather is so cold.
Once supper was done I headed to the tarp and jumped in my sleeping bag. I brought candles with me so it would prevent condensation in the tarp from me breathing (and it works). Before heading to bed, I popped some hand warmers to keep the sleeping bag warmer (pro tip).
The morning was the coldest it has been all trip... It was so cold I decided to not pack everything up and just throw it on the pulk sled and haul it to the car.
From there I head on home, but I noticed Sun Dogs, so I show you guys that as they only appear in extremely cold weather... So if you see them you know its going to be a cold day.
PS: this is in Saskatchewan!
This was filmed on a Sony AX-53 and a Olympus TG Tracker.

She was a cold one haha :P let me know what you guys think!!
love your snow
Yeah! It was nice to get snow.. it was pretty much bare ground 2 weeks before the camp out.
Hey Raymond: Good thing your a modern Pioneer. The original pioneer's cell phone did not have the range yours does. . If they forgot stuff it staid forgotten.. Especially electrically heated jackets. Saskatchawan is beautiful in the winter. Thanks for the video. Brian 78
Lol yeah I guess I sorta cheated calling shannie to bring the mattress 😛 but I didn't want to mess around in temperatures that low... if it wasn't so cold I would of went without for sure.
love this video and the reasons you like winter camping. same with me.
Right on man! Haha it's definitely awesome! Cheers!
Great channel you have here, came from the wooded beardsman!
Nice! Thanks buddy haha glad you enjoyed it. 😎
Man that looks like a good time!
It's one for the books anyway! 😋 if you got the right gear it's not that bad.
Just out for a rip are ya bud
Cool video. I just found your channel and it’s really cool
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
That was a close shot ligthing the fire, almost burned your jacket 😂. You'r a strong guy camping by -33 , never doing this myself under -20, finding no pleasure trying to keep myself from freezing to death 🤤 . Just subs to your channel 👍 Sylvain, Québec
Lol thanks man! 😋 yeah it can be pretty miserable camping in the cold... but it's more for the adventure and being able to say I did it! Lol it's better than sitting on the couch wishing I went out.
Buy electric hand warmer and maybe little solar panel then you can reuse hand warmer or use it as battery bank ...but i have seen those ucl candles some can get up to 1200 btu or more was thinking of getting either or
Yeah I got a zippo hand warmer lol but in the low temperatures like that I didn't want to have to mess around with trying to fill the damn thing lol so I picked up a few 1 time use ones.
I didnt know they made electric ones though! that's sweet.
