Hello Paul - greetings from Poland. I knew about The Dartmoor Railway but had no idea that it no longer exisited. On a very positive note, how fantastic that Network Rail have reinstated the line to run to Exeter. Very positive indeed. A very interresting video, well produced with your usual excellent commentary. I'm looking forward to seeing Part 2 of this vlog when the line officially reopens.
Hi Michael - yes the line opened end of last year - ahead of schedule, and I have filmed that. In addition, there have been further improvements since reopening, as the line speed has increased and the frequency of the railway service has gone from two hourly to every hour serving Crediton, Exeter St. Davids and Exeter Central. It is great news, and both Crediton and Okehampton stations look absolutely superb. I hope to be back here again soon for another trip and to explore both Crediton and the old station at Meldon Quarry. Thanks again, Paul.
Yes, it will open up some great new journey options, as well as being useful for commuters heading into Exeter from Okehampton, as well as Tavistock and Launceston. Glad you liked the video. Thank you!
Hi Paul, You know I see the name Okehampton and I'm transported back to 10th May 1980. I know your not a football man but that day was the FA Cup Final between West Ham and Arsenal. What has all that got to do with Okehampton. Nothing at all really but it was the Ten Tors weekend which I had the good fortune to do with a school group 35 miles over two days linking Ten Tors practically all orienteering no footpaths to follow. I'm sure we must have been listening on the radio but its how I know the exact date. The route started and finished at the army base in Okehampton where you were awarded a medal for finishing, a prized possesion of mine!! Bitter sweet news on the railway as a heritage line bit the dust but in a bit of a reverse it rises from the ashes again, Dr Beeching will be turning in his grave!! All the best
Thank you David 😊 Let's hope it reopens to Tavistock and Exeter too! Yes, very sad about the closure of the heritage line though - I think there was some financial mis-management and then the Americans became involved with grand schemes but none of those materialised unfortunately. I was fortunate enough to have rode on it though circa 2006 - I didn't film it - but my daughter did! Maybe I can persuade her to transfer it to an Mp4 so I can edit it and upload it. It was shot on a Sony DVD 📀 Camcorder so should be reasonable quality. I understand that since this line has reopened it has been a phenomenal success - great news! Cheers! Paul 👍🙂
Well done! You must have some stamina to have got through that little lot Faith! Thanks so much for watching and continuing to support my channel. It is very much appreciated. Take care, Paul.
Thank you Debs - glad you enjoyed it! I'm moving North from here for the next video.....and North again for the following one! Stay safe & take care, Paul.
Yes, I remember going through Hagley on the Kidderminster - Moor St. line a few years ago - definitely a contender for a future video! I am glad that my favourite Network Rail/GWR station is to get a sympathetic makeover - namely, Great Malvern. I love that station! Thanks for watching and commenting. Paul 🙂👍

There will be a direct bus service from Tavistock, Lydford to Okehampton Station from 20th Nov 2021. I saw the recently decaled busses in Tavistock the other day. I have featured them in my new Tavistock video that was published today.
@@davidlacey-goodman4711 Me too. It is long overdue, and the service should not have stopped in the early 1970s. Let's just hope the Bere Alston - Tavistock - Okehampton gets the green light too. Thanks for commenting.
Hi Jeffrey, from the little information I can find on this, the answer sadly appears to be no. www.railfuture.org.uk/dl2480?display&x=750&y=448 The above is a link to a bus map after the station (re)opens in December. There is more information here: www.railfuture.org.uk/The+Okehampton+Line ....and here: dartmoorline.com/news/ The bus routes 118 to Tavistock, and the 75 A&B to Hatherleigh will, however, be serving the new station. What a lovely station & site, so glad it has successfully opened.
Thank you!
