Great selection! I loved to see Synapse there. I got Tom Bihn Synik last year, and that made me sell both AER TP and A19 Evade 1.5 because how well it can do travel and EDC at the same time. You can pack enough things for a week of travel. It looks significantly slimmer when you do not pack it full unlike AER TP so it can become your daypack once you unload your packing cubes etc at the hotel. I also use it for the office when i am home and wanna to carry some additional stuff besides my laptop. It is also considerable lighter than both AER TP and the Evade. Once you get passed the dadpack looks it is an absolutely amazing backpack! Gotta love the organization as well. Has so many quick access pockets.
Dude I'd be lying if I said it wasn't the most fun ever- but it's still a ton of work and generally 2-3X the hours of a normal 9-5. But hey, I can't complain... love it!
Although it seemed a little biased based on relationships... this wasn't a bad list. Goruck, Evergoods, Mission are all solid. I am surprised there was no AbleCarry
Man I looooove Able Carry. It was so difficult cutting this list down to only 12 of my favorite backpacks. Honestly took me several weeks to dial in the list, going back and forth the whole time lol.
Love all those bags...well...almost all of them. Wished my bag was on that top 12 as well hahaha....I'm currently (and for the past 2 years) carrying my Able Carry Daily backpack in multicam black and I love that thing. The design the materials the functionality. Maybe a lil bit too small for some (only 20L) but for my carry it's the perfect size. Really good bag and company.
The Rhake in Multicam Black was my EDC for years. While I wasn't a fan of it in black, the MCB always looks amazing. I have their Radian, Integer, and Spar all in MCB, among others. What I didn't like about the Rhake was that I needed to get through 2 cobra buckles, and two zippers to get into the "quick access" organization. In addition the inner sleeve would pull out every time I reached in to pull out a pouch. I think they've since changed the lining to mitigate this issue. However, aside from my Rhake, I do love my Apex in Onyx, and I am currently using the Axiom 24 as my EDC. If the Axiom was more like a 26 or 28 by their measurements, it could be the perfect pack I think. The ogranization is clutch and I use every on one of those slip pockets in the main org.
I'm right there with you, man. If the Axiom was like 26/28 liters it would be sooooo awesome for me. However, the one thing I most frequently hear from folks about the Axiom, is they wish it was slimmed down to 18ish liters. Hell, imagine a travel-sized Axiom at like 34.... hnnnnnng!
@@CarryologyTV Oh man... yeah they just releasesed the S2 Axiom recently which is the 19 liter variant. For those of us bigger guys over 6' anything that small starts to look a bit too "cute" on our backs. However, yeah if they could elongate the Axiom 24 to a 26/28 by their measture I think it could be the. perfect pack for me, which is both terrifying and exciting to say.
So cool! Thanks for this vid. I might have missed it as it's a lengthy video, but can you let me know how tall you are? I'm pretty short at 5'8" and bigger bags look a bit odd when I wear them :-) Specifically want to know for the GR1 which looks perfect on you but I'm not sure it would look good on me
Your video caused me to buy the Brown Buffalo bag. They seem to be fading out though, all the products are running out of stock, which seems sad. I was happy to buy one of the bags though.
Great review, but you didn't mention the Evade's quick-release straps feature and the Evade's rear-most pocket. Again, great review with an abundance of useful information.
Finally found someone who also doesn’t like outside water bottle pockets. I understand the convenience, but can’t get over how it makes most bags look. I’ve only seen 1 or 2 bags where outside bottle pockets were implemented in a way that complemented the design. Ended up ordering Able Carry Daily Plus yesterday because of how hidden yet convenient the bottle pocket is.
CTB26 (whether it's the collab or standard offering) seems to offer up the perfect Goldilocks size and features. Those dudes up in Bozeman are geniuses... must be something in the water.
@@CarryologyTV They truly are! I have to say, the CTB26 is the first bag I have ever had that leaves me struggling to identify a shortcoming or even a desire that is left unfulfilled. Just.. wow..
A19 is amazing! Of all the bags I have, it's easily been used the most. Since I scored the Phoenix 2 collab release, I've been trying to use it more but it's hard to beat the smooth zippers and amazing organizational design of the Evade 1.5! (I've got the Lite black diamond ripstop and Full MCB Cordura versions)
Great bags and solid reviews. I bought a couple bags recently and ultimately returned them because they were too loud. Maybe I'm too picky but some of the better materials (esp ripstop and xpac) seem to make a surprisingly loud crinkly noise and it would annoy me to hear that constantly while I'm walking. Any suggestions on certain materials to favor or avoid if you don't want to hear the crinckle noise? Does that crinkle noise go away after a break in period?
Glad to see TB on this list. I usually prefer tacticool bags but damn do I love my TB. I prefer the synik like to the synapse. Mostly for the clamshell and top handle. Glad someone else is showing them some love. Super underrated company. I need to find that whiskey. Ironically I can't find it in Dallas.
Great video. Taylor I’m just curious: Why not the Cobra version of the Evade? Though I guess being able to show that incredible low price was a benefit.
Great question man! Honestly- was just showing off the EVADE to represent all of its amazing variants (including the Stealth Cobra collab, XPac version, Cordura version, Ballistic version, etc). It's such a great pack! :)
Great video! I really like brown buffalo’s design but the one thing that irks me is the bright orange inside. I know its kind of nit picky but i just cant bring myself to get one cause of that one little detail.

Trakke is sexy. Axiom looks useful if you dont mind taking 1/4 interior to a water bottle lol. I like smaller carries so that 24L.. aka, 17, may work out just nicely.
@@CarryologyTV id be interested to see all the ones youve gotten your hands on. Not everyone is in the 22L+ edc range. my current carry on super minimal days is trakke bairn cobra and i LOVE how when you open the flap, everything is presented right there just neatly waiting to be grabbed. When i do need like "more space for work" i still find myself going up to 17L max honestly. Not sure what i would put into a 24L edc honestly lol. Smaller carries vid 10-20 would be cool
Nice list...partnership heavy perhaps and no way am I convinced on your selling the price $800 on the waterproof Arc'teryx. Their markup is out the roof on all products. I have their $350 lightweight rain jacket...waterproof and a sweatbox in design flaws.
great video with some excellent brands. i personally hate the color black, particularly because the vast majority of travel and edc bags are black. maybe it's because high tenacity high denier nylon doesn't take dye well? but I don't want to lose my bag in a sea of black bags on the luggage carousel or at the school i work at. can you please make a video or at least some suggestions of the best bags that have interesting fun colorways while still being a panel-loader and around 20 liters. Doesnt need to be as crazy as cotopaxi but please no more black or navy. even ranger green or a tan or brown is nice. i wanted a goruck but they are insanely expensive.
the color black makes things seem smaller. thats why my carryon bag is a AER travel pack. But yes, the bag reviewers SHOULD review bags in other colors so that we can see the small details which can be hidden with a black bag.
This is my 3rd or 4th time rewatching this 1h15m video and I learn something new with each additional viewing. Also notably, once I start watching it, I can’t stop and have to finish it each and every time. That said, excellent choices of some of the absolute killer, grail pieces that would make any collection shine. Lately, I’ve been thinking what my own top 10-15 EDC bags would look like and while overall my list would have a substantial overlap with yours, mine would also have to include Code of Bell’s X-PAC that’s now adaptable from a large sling to a backpack via their attachable harness system, another newer offering from a grail brand that would absolutely crack my top 10 is that Kaidan 3 double compartment Ultra bullet, not only because my all time Goruck favorite is actually GR2 instead of GR1 even as an EDC bag but also because that double barrel bullet is literally a smaller version of the GR2 and I absolutely love bags that look and feel much smaller on the exterior than their true volume or a load out (if you will) turn out to be. Because there’s no way (and I mean that as a complement of the highest order) that Kaidan 3 Ultra Bullet has smaller capacity and ability to gobble up anything and everything than any pack in the world advertised as 22-26 litter capacity bag. Of course Unicorn 2.0, that you so smoothly hinted at during your overview of its older sibling, makes my all time list especially since I never got the 1.0 variant and lastly, master-pieces collab with Goopimade pack definitely gets my juices flowing and undoubtedly my personal all time favorite.
