Dormans Coffee Ltd (Dormans) was founded by Charles and Ellen Dorman in 1950, and has grown to become East Africa's premier coffee roaster.
We supply a diverse range of freshly roasted coffee blends to hotels, coffee-shops, supermarkets and wholesalers countrywide. Consistency and quality are the distinguishing features which have made Dormans a trusted household brand.

NOTABLE MILESTONES
Year 2002
Dormans set up Africa's first Coffee Training School, Nairobi School of Coffee.
Dormans has connected many of the graduates to their hospitality clients, thus contributing to the employment of thousands of youth. The NSoC certificate is well sought-after by employers seeking to recruit qualified Baristas at their restaurants and coffee shops.
Year 2003
Dormans pioneered the introduction of the Kenya National Barista Championships in Nairobi. The event has grown in popularity over the years.
The event has helped enhance awareness of a Barista as a professional coffee maker.Winners compete at the World Barista Championships, an event organized by the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe and the Specialty Coffee Association of America.
Year 2004
Dormans opened its first Coffee shop - a chain of shops followed.
Year 2005
Dormans introduced ‘Coffee on the Go’ serving delightful coffee from a Mobile Coffee Cart, the first ever in the region.
Year 2007
Dormans becomes the first company in the coffee industry to successfully pass ISO 22000 audits.
Year 2013
Dormans sold the assets of their coffee shops to a Partner who continues to operate a successful chain of coffee shops.
Year 2019
Dormans set up their own syrups manufacturing line. The range of syrups complement our coffee blends and give our hospitality and domestic customers the option of creating an exciting range of coffee drinks.

It is amazing that this factory generates it own free and green energy, I hope the rest of Kenya would follow. The sun does no send you an invoice!
So next time you are drinking a cup of coffee in a café in Nairobi, London Tokyo, New York etc., always remember it's a whole chain of real hard work. Kudos to the farmers, and other folks who make us enjoy a cup of coffee!

22:34 @Afrikan Traveller, I like the documentaries you bring and I am your follower including the retirement home for your parent that you aired a while back etc. However, I just have one problem, whenever I am notified about your UA-cam uploads, I connect my laptop to my home theatre. Now the problem comes when I concentrate then allover sudden your choice of music is loud banging sound. I would prefer a soft music in the sense that, your documentaries are educative. That means that your viewers like me concentrate alot on your contents. I feel that your choice of music should support concentration, a such, it should be soft. That's just my opinion as one of your followers.

Did lots of coffee harvesting in boarding primary school… our school had a coffee farm and the students provided free labor… harvesting and taking to the factory… hated it

As a Kenyan and resident of Ruiru, I'm very proud of this video. Having worked in a manufacturing company I would suggest or advise Dormans that every processing stage is equally important and contribute to the quality of the final product therefore Dormans needs to do proper machine maintenance at every stage of processing. The collection area and a few other stages were not impressive at all. Otherwise, I'm very proud and looking forward to when Africa will impose a law to prohibit the export of any raw materials but only finished goods like Dormans Coffee!! Until then we will never realize the true value of our mother continent.

This reminds me my childhood, my father used to have this type of machine on Uganda in Mubende KASSANDA Ziwomeredde...but now its a forest. These days Uganda has no more machines like this its really a shame. The coffee marketing Board my father used to take his produce it was taken to Rwanda 🇷🇼 😢 😅 😕 🤣 😄 its really a shame indeed. Now Rwanda 🇷🇼 is the next producer of coffee.
I read a book titled’The black gold of Chepkube’- details the coffee smuggling from Uganda to Kenya back in the 70s-80s

Can the sugar of the beans during fermentation be harvested? Could think of several applications in syrups and use coffee liqueur that could use it.

Impressive factory. Some feedback Dormans. It would be advantageous if you made your capsules universal. I brought my coffee machine from Europe, it can’t break Dorman’s capsules so then I have to look for something different even bring back Nespresso or ask someone to bring it when they come. I cut out Dormans capsule and put it in the cup then pour hot water in it. It smells good but does not taste like it would if done by machine.

@@AfrikanTraveller I had no idea Dormans owns/ leases coffee farms in Kenya. How can the one you sell coffee to own the same commodity? How ethical is this? How do they help the poor farmer? I ask because Dormans is one of the companies who together with others set up coffee prices in the international market and not the poor small scale farmer who also does the work. They(Dormans) are major buyers. This almost brings tears to my eyes because my father paid my school fees using coffee renumeration. Today he would not afford it.
Only in Africa where we allow ourselves to be exploited.
I urge you to make another video on the plight of coffee farmers. This is not rosy at all.

Maize is not a profitable crop, many farmers prefer other crops such as Avocado (Kenya is now largest producer in Africa and among the top 10 in the world)

Kenyans who bought the coffee farms from the settlers subdivided them into plots… Runda and Ruaka, 2 Rivers (clove farm) and some other Koinage farms in Kiambaa that they aren’t able to manage
