    *Interesting fact:* A lot of these views about modestly and simplicity were influenced by the fact that *Einstein was a strict socialist* . He wrote in the Socialist Journal named Monthly Review in 1949, an essay titled _'Why Socialism?'_ in which he said:
    _"This crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his future career._
    _I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion"_

    Spending $500 on a desk set up after saving up for months sure was satisfying. However, have I returned to my baseline happiness? Maybe so. Fortunately, it allows for spikes of happiness throughout my week that I wouldn't have experienced otherwise. It also helps me reach my other goals, like graduating university or practicing digital art.
    Even after reading Schopenhauer, who said that human beings are in a constant state of deprivation, I still find myself chasing after silly materialistic endeavours. Sure, I could learn to ignore the will and go on to live an ascetic lifestyle, maybe that's the only way I'll ever feel close to satisfied. However, I think I've found a healthy balance, one that accepts the human condition and mindfully treads through life, finding meaning in meaningless things. I'm satisfied with feeling unsatisfied for now.
    Very calming and enjoyable video, provoked some positivity in my generally apathetic mind.

Some material things give me long term happiness but not by itself. For example, I got new expensive headphones 3 years ago. I feel happy everytime I listen to music, not because I have good headphones, but because I can listen to music with great quality.
      Now I bought 600 euro drum kit I don't feel happiness, maybe when I learn to play it

    Being happy is hard when you have literally no friends or even someone that you can to talk to. There's no point of achieving something great or trying to evaluate importance of simple things in life when you can't share your happiness with someone else. If your live goes unnoticed by other people and feeling of world's indifference is overwhelming - only then you can understand role of social connections in true happiness.
    Don't repeat my mistakes - care about people around you. You don't want to be left totally alone in life by age of 21 like me (if you are older then be sure to put more effort in it because life won't wait for anyone).

      I'm afraid nobody does. What makes someone happy one day may not make them as happy on the next. As people we have to constantly navigate through life looking, feeling, and struggling. Happiness comes from the journey. Living is like dancing, or playing music, you don't do it to achieve a specific goal, but to appreciate it while it lasts. I'm not saying you shouldn't look for what makes you happy, that's really important, but pursuing happiness is not like chasing a goal, because a goal marks the end of the journey, and the only true end in our journey is death. Pursuing happiness is like walking on the street listening to a song you like, it boils down to just 'being', appreciating the trip. Hope you find your way. Good luck!

    • @DarkAngelEU
      @DarkAngelEU 3 роки тому +4

      @@digitalhermit8928 I read your comment as being "work hard and you'll get there", or "find enjoyment in hard work" but the boulder is exactly what Sisyphus defies with his memories of a much better life, a life absent from hard work, a passionate life, a life he sustained by tricking the gods many times before actually getting caught and punished for his acts of deviance. We must imagine Sisyphus happy, because in his mind he is still free, he is still a rebel that refuses to accept this punishment as his final fate.
      Saying these videos are like the boulder is like saying this is what God, law or society has imposed on the creator, ie a punishment he has to learn to rebel against, while it's quite obvious that the creator enjoys making these videos. It is rather the life before the boulder, than the boulder itself. That's my argumentation for why I think you didn't understand the essay.

    • @DarkAngelEU
      @DarkAngelEU 3 роки тому +1

      @Joost Broek No, and I just explained why. Saying the essay is bullshit also goes to show you don't really respect what Camus had to say and you just want to make a fancy quote out of it rather than understanding his underlying message, which was to rebel against conventions, like "a good life is dedicated to hard work". Camus defied philosophical convention, and pretty much chose to align himself with philosophers like Schopenhauer and Nietzsche against Hegel, against Sartre, against theoretical philosophers who didn't care about what was actually happening in the world to derive any philosophical meaning from. Camus finds philosophy for the sake of philosophy disgusting, so it takes a little attention to know what he means with imagining Sisyphus happy and I find that alot of people are disrespectful to his intentions because they are omitting three lines, THREE LINES, that clearly explain Sisyphus isn't happy because he has found joy in pushing that stupid boulder up and down, but because he finds it laughable the gods' powers only reach him so far that they can force him to push a boulder up and down and not erase his memories that still fill him with joy even while he has to push that stupid boulder up and down forever. The entire perspective of the message changes, because now, if we are confronted with the Absurd, Camus tells us to remind the times we were able to laugh and welcome the Absurd into our lives instead of having to deal with it as if it were a punishment. He doesn't tell us to work hard through the mess, but remind the times where we made the mess work for us. He's telling us not to accept the situation, but to deal with it on our own terms, like a rebel would. Own the situation, don't suck up to it.
      It's like people constantly comparing the times we live in to Orwell's 1984 or a world made up by Kafka, whilst they are saying "oh we don't live in a free world", "oh bureaucracy is everywhere nowadays!", while this is NOT what those books are about. 1984 is pretty much UK today with their whole Brexit episode: people voting blindly out of emotion rather than political motivations, being riled up by lobbyists who know how to pull their strings, who know the people simply gobble up their fake news and rhetoric because they're too lazy to have a genuine interest in politics and how such milestone decisions might influence their own conditions. Kafka is pretty much about the lack of justice, the inhumaneness most plebs wish to see in the real world, a lack of laws that protect the people from themselves to either abuse their power or simply let their animal lusts feast upon others. If you are too lazy to read anything they wrote, don't quote them, and surely, don't start an argument where you think you'll look smart by oversimplifying them. You will always be outsmarted by those who actually did the work.

    TL;DR:
    We chase increasingly expensive opulence in the vain hope of cheating our psychological limits, & when the honeymoon phase comes to a close, we simply find ourselves re-acquainted with intermittent desire. The hedonic treadmill of success plays perfectly into this -- but people nevertheless remain alien to the happiness that comes from simply saying, "That's enough."

    Good advise! Abdul-Baha of the Baha'i Faith once referred to an Arabic saying about the peacock, who 'is contented because he never looks at his feet - which are very ugly - but always at his plumage which is very beautiful’ :-)

    I would love to hear about why sisyphus is important to you if you already haven't talked about it. To me. Its almost about the beauty in futility. The need to do good in a world that refuses to be good. Being kind in an unkind world. To the gods they may have thought they cursed sisyphus, but is sisyphus really suffering? He has his purpose and can see his goal. In my life I've realized a lack of. Vision i guess, is what brings me down the most. When I finally found direction, even though the goal is impossibly far, I have the drive to keep pushing. Out of all the stories, series, novels, or other forms of media, I relate heavily with sisyphus for some reason.

    I can't escape the thought that what I perceive myself to be is actually just a character in a scenario generated in a better world and designed to facilitate a hedonic reset for the higher/truer me who has become jaded with the "good life" there; hence all the suffering here. Perhaps one must sometimes become reacquainted with darkness to fully appreciate the value of light.

    Happiness is a silly word. I prefer thinking of it as keeping your mind busy and forgetting that you live in a stupid world with no point at all. A shark has no idea why it's moving but has to keep doing it or it will die. As humans we have to keep moving as well. Find something that you like to do and do it.

    3:40 Deriving all this from the quote of a guy who never looked back and was highly driven individual throughout his life.
    In some part contempt is good but I hope people won't fall into this trap of negative positivity. The entire video was nothing but a bunch of positive words strung together in an ASMR voice. When would the guy in this video say "That's enough" and stop his own hustle of pumping content telling people what they want to hear?

    Actually I dont agree with that phrase. I prefer the "to navigate is necessary, to live is not." Which in a way can mean smth like "do you spend your life doin something really necessary?" So in a way a life full of struggles is more satisfactory even if in the end you havent achieve what you wanted to. Idk if is a pessimist or otimist view of life but its more senseful to me to live a life trying to become better intelectually, financially or whatever than spend a life in a farm with cows (metaphora to living taking easy). So that phrase make way more sense than the classic critic of stressful routines. All this bring to me the question "is life really that worthful to spend trying to save it or is better to Just live for an objective even with suffers and struggles?" Cus in the end the fate is the same. End.

    I watched a move sometime ago (I forgot the name of it) but it was about some famous writer. And he had a family but he spend so much of his time writing he wouldn't take a break for a meaningful family celebration like one of his daughter's birthdays. And the daughter wanted him to join the family so badly. I think it ended up really messing up their relationship. It's like he chose to miss out or didn't realize he was missing out on the most important happy experiences of a person's life.
