I think it’s all in the names. For SkyRunning, technical, talus and scree and summits, with mileage between, Peregrines for the win. For 30k, 50k, 50 mile+ of mileage and distance, time on feet trudging along, Xodus all day. Literally. All day. Maybe all night too 😉
I purchased both shoes based on the reviews by this channel. The Peregrine is good for muddy conditions and bad weather, but I don‘t like it otherwise. I did a 21k trail race in them and was not too happy. The XODUS is super comfy for the longer runs trail runs I do. I put a lot of KM on them and they a great. Extremely comfortable. But just a word of warning. The XODUS do not work in high alpine conditions where the trails are technical to very technical. I tried them this weekend here in the Swiss Alps and I was not satisfied. I‘ll stick with my Scarpa’s for this type of environment. My recommendation? Get the XODUS if you are doing non-technical races like the (standard) UTMB, etc. For truly technical stuff in high-alpine environments with lots of rocks etc., get something different.
Good to know. What features in the shoe do you need the most for the rocks? And, what is the Xodus missing? would you say the Peregrine is more suited (or not quite)? I'd like to get a better picture. So far I have the experience in lower mountains. They are technical, steep ascends, but a mix of terrains, not rocks alone.
It's hard for a trail running shoe to cross over to every type of terrain you run on, especially if it include high alpine running, that's a tough environment Nico 👍 As you know it's all about ground feel and connection when running on super technical trails like that so the Xodus probably has a bit to much cushioning for those conditions. I'm not sure I'd call a race that's 104 miles long, with 10,000m of elevation "standard" though 😂 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Cheers for this comparison vid. Interesting to hear that the Xodus has more room in the toebox. I've done 3 runs in the Peregrine 12's so far and I'm finding that where the shoe flexes in the toebox it presses down uncomfortably on my little toe. Was hoping it might soften up as the shoe breaks in but doesn't appear to be. Might have to sell them on. Really disappointing as otherwise they are great (also had no issues with the Peregrine 11's). Am really tempted by the Xodus, especially as I have a couple of ultras planned for next year.
Back in March on an impulse I signed up for a 3 trail run series. Problem was I had no trail shoes and these were no road shoe-able trails. I ended up getting Speedgoat 4s because 5's were not available in my size. Although they served me well (2nd AG in the first and 1st AG in the 2nd) your review of the Xodus convinced me that if I want to move up in distance (50k planned for next spring) I needed something with a bit more comfort. I picked up a pair at steep discount at the 2nd race (a local running store was a sponsor) and looking forward to them as I extend the distance. Thanks again for the help 🙂

The Xodus reminds me a little of the Salomon Ultra Glides, look forward to giving them a go. I use the Peregrine 12 ST for shorter (up to maybe 20km) technical stuff, ground feel is great and gives great confidence on descents. Great review!

Used the Xodus this weekend, 15 miles Saturday & 12 Sunday across gravel, rocks, grass. Super comfy straight out the box, maybe a bit of roll sideways, weak ankles would maybe struggle? Perfect for me so far.
I love them too,i went on a run up griffith park and enjoyed the run so much ,it was my first trail run . Im looking into getting a salomon advskin 5 set lol. I loved trail runni g so much im going to include one long run in my weekly routine 😅

I'm still running in my peregrine 10 (choosed them following your review at that time) which are doing good so far, maybe just a bit heavy so i was pretty much excited by the 12 as my next pair. I picked up the Xodus Ultra and am very impressed. My only slight issue is the firm sections to the left and right of the heel pocket. If Saucony lost these I am sure it would reduce the weight and make them a bit more comfortable.
I'm sure they've been put in for some structural support around the heal. Without them you might not get as good a lock down, which might lead to heal slippage? 🤔 To be fair I find the heal very comfortable and don't have any issues but I know some runners have. Great Video, I am a big fan of the Saucony lineup recently, both the road shoes and the trail. Never had the Peregrine ST and wondering You have any experience with them? Any chance to have a rewiew or the vs Video? Keep up the good work!!!!

Really wanted the P12 to work for me, i use Endorphin speed on road but these P12s are killing my heels, rubbing. They come up higher on Achillies. Gutted as wanted them to work and its a £100 mistake. Do you have any heel rub issue with either of the P12 and Exodus Ultra?
Right I do some casual road running (5km-10km) once a week and I hike trails. And just some home gym stuff. Looking for a jack of all trades of a shoe really but not a total master of none. I travel a lot so can't afford the space to buy a pair for everything.
Can i ask if you stayed with the same size for each shoe? loved my 11's & 12's but need looking at next pair so tempted by Xodus for winter and then see if 13's come out for Spring purchase?!

How does the Xodus size compare with a Nike size? Is it true to size? I am a UK10. What size should I buy? I am from India and the only place Saucany's are available are online. So can't try them before you buy them.
Great video as usual Loyd. Has anyone found they can feel the inner edge of the innersole on the Peregrine. Bought them on Loyds great recommendation and tbh they are a fantastic shoe. However I noticed on my last 5km run that my right foot feels like it’s running on top of the edge of the inside edge inner sole, granted it must be my stance. Any ideas anyone to how I could solve this without a new shoe?
It’s a shame they gave the xodus 4.5mm lugs. The peregrines good in the wet but the midsole is just way to firm for me. What’s the endorphin trail like in comparison to xodus both having power run pb and 4.5 lugs ? I see the endorphin trail Is back in stock although the endorphin edge will be out soon
The Endorphin Trail is quite a different shoe compared to the Xodus Ultra. It's got a full PWRRUN pb midsole compared to the dual compound midsole on the Xodus Ultra. I actually like the Endorphin Trail, it took a bit of time to get use to it but once I did its a comfortable shoe to run in 👍 Hope this helps Steve, thanks for watching 🙏
I wish a shoe manufacturer would make an ultra shoe for narrower low volume feet (n not pointy pixie feet - Dynafit), that aren't overly padded (La Sportiva), feel like marshmallows (Salomon) n are solid enough with good traction for mountainous terrain. I love my Saucony Peregrines and Scarpa Spin Ultras however the Saucony Xodus are too wide (sloshy) and the Scarpa Infinity have a poor heel hold... the search continues.
It's so tricky when it comes to footshape and running shoes because it is so personal. I do think the industry is catering for wider feet more nowadays 🤔 I don't have a lot of volume to my footshape and the Xodus Ultra fits me really well? I find it's got a roomy toe box but it holds my midfoot really well 👍 Hope you find a shoe that works for you Craig, have you tried the Salomon Ultra Glide? 🤔

Absolutely disappointed with the Peregrine’s. The upper was completely ripped open with only 1.5 months and 175 miles in. It was so bad that I couldn’t even lock it down since it ripped so far down. Such a shame considering the outer and midsole had so much more life left bud I loved the way it performed on trails

Had the same issue in two pairs of these shoes, less than 200 miles in each pair. Upper completely wears down. Like you, I otherwise really enjoyed running in the shoe which makes it so disappointing.

Couldn’t agree more on the Xodus and technical terrain. Anything other than buffed out trails and my feet were sliding off the platform.

Unfortunately for me the Xodus Ultra rubbed on my ankle bone from the first run. Tried to see if they would break in but the same on every run.

The Ultra Glide is a great trail shoe but for me the Xodus Ultra performs a little bit better Tony 👍

Same here, Norvan LD3 comes close, but they are a touch wide.

I have heard a lot of similar reviews regarding the durability of the Peregrine 12.
Had the same issue in two pairs of these shoes, less than 200 miles in each pair. Upper completely wears down. Like you, I otherwise really enjoyed running in the shoe which makes it so disappointing.
