That one negative really is a shame, I'm literally looking for a new way to transport my ships and as someone who catches public transport to my club it is absolutely essential. Great to see you active again, you've always been my favorite X-wing reviewer and I really hope some of the newer ships are in the pipelines for review!
I use a decent sized fishing tackle box. It has trays for all of my tokens, rulers, dice and maneuver dials.Space inside for ships, rules and ship cards. I bought the Flambeau Tackle T4 Multi-Loader Tackle Box on sale so it was a great deal and I've been happy with it.
I used to have a similar setup but it was big and bulky and it made getting all of my ships together for an event a real pain. I finally just gave up and I now store everything on shelves near my desk. It makes grabbing ships and dials a breeze, but my collection isn't mobile at all so I never have any extra stuff outside of the specific squadron I want to play when I go to events.
+Matt Coles I jump around a lot in what I play. Right now I'm working on a 4-ship Scum squadron that has standard Nym and Fenn Rau, with Sunny Bounder and a Z-95. Mostly because I want to fly Sunny because her ability is pretty funny if it ever works.
The template caddy is interestingly different from others in that it has the turns and banks low profile horizontal. those ar the most difficult ones to grab when they're all over the place.
That's... the coolest storage solution for any wargame I've heard of. Do you have custom inserts for your ships or do you just throw everything in there and hope for the best?
I'm getting sick of laser cut mdf, the market is becoming flooded with this stuff, there are already good plastic containers on the market that will do the job just fine.
I think you're worrying a bit too much about the fact that this box won't transport your ships safely to and from the event. That's clearly not what it's intended for. Its purpose is exactly what you describe in the rest of the video--facilitating moving from table to table at an X-Wing tournament. The fact that it really only holds enough ships for a single squad (or maybe two) aligns with the usual Organized Play rules that you play the same list in every round of the event. If you're looking for a case to carry your entire collection to your friend's house or your club's weekly X-Wing night, so you can have all your ships handy to play any conceivable list, this is clearly not that box.
It is definitely the design intention of the product to be able to transport your ships to and from the venue in addition to moving between tables while playing. I think if the conditions are right - good weather, personal transportation, a short walk to the venue - it works fine although I personally would still be nervous about my ships being exposed; X-Wing ships are pretty fragile.
yep I drive around with them in my car all the time. that does not work for everyone though! indeed weather can be a problem. The only bad experience I have had with it was loading my car in the dark. I forgot the ships were there and put something on top of them. I think I had one broken peg from that incident but the ships themselves were fine. thankfully I did not have and OT x-wings in there at the time.
My solution has been to bring my big plastic case with multiple lists to events, and then use this while I'm at the event. I really like the template holder and the token tray. I showed it off to a few people at a tournament last night and they were impressed. It really is a nice product, especially the size.
Hope you do more xwing reviews! You're probably my favorite reviewer and I'm always checking to see if you've posted videos
Thanks!
Good to see more storage options.

+Collection THX1138 Yes, I like the template caddy in this a lot. It's well designed.
The cobwebs on your x-wings in the close ups show how often you use them :)
+Tony Heron lol too true. It's also because I store my ships on open shelves. But yeah, I haven't used a T-65 in some time...
Great concept for at the table but the ship pegs will snap like twigs if something hits a ship.
HES ALIVE
Oh and first
It is very organized mind the plastic zipp.
I use a 20mm call box 4 my gear.
