Canada and the UK share a sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III, and are both among the oldest parliamentary democracies in the world. The relationship between our two countries continues a long tradition of strategic partnership.
The relationship between the UK Royal Family and Canada is rooted in historical ties. As a former British colony, Canada retained the British monarch as its symbolic head of state even after gaining independence. Currently, King Charles III serves as Canada’s king, but his role is purely ceremonial and holds no governing authority. While Canada has the option to sever ties with the monarchy and transition to a republic, doing so would require constitutional amendments-a lengthy and complex process. Additionally, many Canadians are comfortable with the current system, viewing the monarchy as a tradition rather than a source of power. Hence, the UK Royal Family does not "rule" Canada but serves as a symbolic link to its colonial past. Thank you so much for the session.
Canada is a part of the British Commonwealth like India, Australia, Pakistan , etc. Canada is politically independent but it considers The British Monarch as the head of its state unlike India. Thank you sir ❤
