Being that 300 RUM was introduced in 1999 and 300 Weatherby was introduced in 1944 your 50 year fastest is correct but I'm with everyone agreeing that 300 Weatherby currently is 3rd fastest behind 30-378 Weatherby and 300 RUM.
The 7.82 warbird is about to tie with the 30-378 Weatherby mag. The warbird buries the 300 rum and 300 Weatherby mag. Lazzeroni is pretty fast. I got all of them.
Ran into a friend one time and he told me a guy gave him a gun for doing some carpenter work, it was a 338 Ultra Mag, and it came with a box of ammo with only two shells fired, I said you know why there is only two fired rounds ? he said why ? I said he shot one and it kicked the chit out of him and he thought maybe he held rifle wrong so he shot a second round which kicked the chit out of him again, he then put the gun away until he found you willing to take it as payment.....lol.....
I love the POWER, but my wallet don’t .. I have to keep opening a new credit card just to keep the thing fed , plus the more power going down range , the bigger the kick coming back at my shoulder .. Probably why elephant gun only have two rounds capacity
300 Rum man here. Absolutely love it. Speed, power, and energy! But a voracious powder appetite. You're gonna thank the Lord youre into reloading now! Lol!
300 Wetherby is no slouch, but I can think of at least 3 30 caliber cartridges with more punch. In addition to the 30-378, there is the 300 RUM and the 300 Norma.
I shot a ,30-378 once, and I mean once. One shot and I handed that rifle back to its owner. Between the recoil and muzzle blast(it had a brake on it) it was nasty. I really have no idea why anyone in North America would hunt with that thing. Just a macho thing I guess.......
My wife’s favorite gun is the 30-378 in Weatherby Mark V. Weighs a lot but with the break recoil is less than a 308. Can’t shoot without ear protection or you’ll feel it for a while. She’s killed a bison, multiple elk and antelope.
A mate of mine is a PH in Namibia. He had a client on a plains game hunt who had a custom shop 30-378 Weatherby shooting factory 180 grain TSXs. He said it was the most devastating rifle he had ever seen on plains game. Absolutely a killing machine.
I have a friend who is a guide in Wyoming and Alaska and I’ve shot his 30-378. It has a muzzle brake and the recoil wasn’t more than a 270. I did use ear plugs and the concussion and noise wasn’t bad. In fact his wife has used it to kill bull elk.

Yes, a brake. I bought a 300 RUM right after it came out in Remington 700. I'm really busted up and full of shrapnel so recoil isn'tpleasant but I was younger. The muzzle blast was crazy to watch in the weeds 10 foot out in front after firing. I had shot 300 W.M. but that thing was nasty. I couldn't get it to shoot a tight group. Couple others at the shop I was helping out said it was me, so out to the back country we went. One shot from that guy and he said I wouldn't own that rifle 😅. I ended up bedding it but it just sit in the shelf so I traded it. Kinda wish I still had it but ammo the way it is, a box would empty my wallet.😅
I have one myself, and it's one of my favorites all time. When you reload keep in mind the remington brass has less case capacity than the weatherby brass.
I may be mistaken, I thought you had a 300rum. That should be a little spicier than the Weatherby. Ii do remember the recoil being a tad bit abrasive on that bingbang tho😁. You and family have a blessed and safe one my friend.
Weatherby factory ammo is usually faster than Rem. or Federal. Reloading Weatherby is getting 3300 FPS with 180 GRN and 3250 with 190 accubond long range
Weatherby loaded ammunition. 180 grain boolot, at 3170 fps. 26" bbl. Silver box about 75 bucks/box using 180 grain Hornady interlock. Weatherby loaded 180 grain Barnes tripe shock@ 3240. You can achieve 3250 easily when you load your own with 180 grain boolots. My favorite powder Is Norma MRP. I don't believe it is available in the USA anymore. I could be wrong, haven't seen any in a long time.
I have a 300 WBY accumark - it's a fine rifle and the kicking is over rated by those who have never shot this caliber. Congrats on your new to you rifle - you deserve it!
Just got back from a vacation in Montana, Yellowstone West and Bozeman. Naturally we stopped by a few gun shops to talk about popular elk rounds and rifles. Here is a shocker - the classic 7 mm Rem. mag is popular along with the 270 Win. Half the recoil of the 300 Win. mag and other fast 30's. The reasoning is that as long as the trajectory is reasonably flat, it doesn't take much to dispatch elk, so no reason to endure the extra recoil and blast, which can cause a flinch and hurt accuracy. Plus the ammo is harder to find and more expensive. It was also mentioned that some hunters use the 25-06 as an elk, mule deer, and sheep cartridge.
I had a custom .30-416 Rigby, years ago! That's the biggest .30 caliber I've had, so far. With a 34" bull barrel, muzzle brake, & wood stock, it's recoil was like a .243.
@@tjgrossman believe what you want. I make all the pressure barrels and Universal receivers and run an indoor 100 yard Test Tunnel. So cool you got this. I’ve been hoping you would for about a year or so. My grandpa gave me his 300WBM and it’s beautiful but I have not shot it yet due to limited range distance here where I live and I cannot find hardly any test done online. Also good to know that Remington is loading it.
My father owns a mk v ultralight in 300wby. He hands loads 180 gr. Nosler balistics tips at 3,350 fps and shoots it with no muzzle break. Ive shot it once and dont plan to ever again lol.
I have a Weatherby Mark V Accumark and Mark V Deluxe, chambered in 300 Weatherby. Still, the Vanguard might be the best gun for the money. Even so, the Mark V action's additional weight helps mitigate recoil, making it more manageable. If you're interested in light recoil and accuracy, loading the 300 Weatherby with H4895 powder can yield results similar to the 308 Winchester, allowing for comfortable shooting during range sessions. However, if you're looking to hunt elk or other large game, full-power loads in the 300 Weatherby deliver the necessary energy, though with increased recoil. For a casual plinking/hunting load, consider using a starting change of IMR 4350 powder with 150 to 165-grain bullets. This combination provides a balance of power, manageable recoil, and, in most cases, outstanding accuracy. While the 300 RUM offers slightly higher velocities, it does so with increased recoil and less nostalgia compared to the Weatherby line.
I recommend a scope with a generous eye relief. I shot a .340 Wby mag twice with a Weatherby scope on it. The eye relief was about 1/4" shorter than it should have had.
Nothing against any other rifle brand I’m just a Savage fan have been all my life I’m too old to change now if I wanted to. Savage has done me great over the past 30+ years no use in changing now.
My problem with all of this is you have to look at useable case capacity, with a Nosler 180 BT a 300 Winchester mag has 80.2 grs of useable case capacity and a Saami max pressure of 64000 psi 300 Weatherby mag is 87.4 gr and 63,817 max pressure 300 PRC is 94.7 gr and 64,991 The 300 PRC is my pick, Its a redesigned modern 30 Cal mag. that doesn't seat the bullet down in the powder column like the old designs, This data all came from as Quick Loads program and it shows that the 300 Prc will shot the 180 gr Nosler BT bullet 30 FPS faster than the 300 Weatherby simply because it holds more powder and has a higher max pressure.
A buddy of mine got a used .30-378 Weatherby with a nice scope. We went to the range to see where it was sighted-in at. Near as we could determine, it hit 2" low at 100 yards, 1-1/2" low at 200, 3/4" low at 300 and was dead-nutts on at 400 yds. Left it where it was at. Only problem he has is chasing animals away from him 'till they're out about 400 yards , then he holds dead on. . . ☆
300 wby is a great caliber. Plus you can get ammo from Weatherby when you couldn't get ammo a few years ago. I have the Weatherby Mark V Ultralight RC.
I own a 300 Weatherby Mag, shooting 180 grain Weatherby ammo. I had a 300 Win Mag. It’s a great caliber, but there is no comparison to the Weatherby. My rifle is custom built, but Vanguard is a good rifle for the price. Just put a high end optic on it!!!’ Leopold, Swarovski, Zeiss etc!!!!!!
There's a reason that the 300 bee was nicknamed the first ultra mag. It's a tossup between the run and 300 bee on which is faster. I know mine shoots about 3150 with a 24" tube with a 210 gr pill so that's scooting in anyone's book. The Norma and other wildcat-ish loadings really don't count imo. Oh and mine shoots less than .50" groups out of a vanguard.
Great rifles but buying a Vanguard only gets you a Weatherby by name because they're made by Howa. I got a Vanguard in 300 Win Mag for my high school graduation back in 89. That was a great shooting rifle, 4 shots groups under 1" easily and .5" shooting reloads. Idk about now but as I recall, back then the Vanguard and Howa rifles were nearly identical. I looked at an identical rifle recently in 257 Weatherby.
This is absolutely correct. Very shortly after the 300 RUM was introduced I bought one and called Nosler for load data because it wasn't in their current manual yet. The data they gave me for RL 25 (which was also introduced around the same time) was a max load of 96 grains (one full grain over their current max listed load) that gave a bit over 3400 fps. Much, if not most, of the data you will see today for the 300 RUM is very anemic - and it's also developed in 24 inch barrels. I have never seen a 300 RUM with a 24 inch barrel, at least not a Remington 700. The vast majority are 26 inch bbls.
first thing I would do is take that pic rail off and loc tight a high quality steel pic rail with high end steel rings. That is a light weight rifle and adding a little weight will be your friend. I notice that you use the lead sled, if you attach a heaver scope on that rifle, it puts a bit of pressure on those small pic rail mount screws. Had a rifle (heavy magnum) come in that shot accurate, and then started to not group after being shot off the lead sled.quite a bit. come to find that the scope base plate and screws were deformed from the dead stop recoil off a led sled. drilled and tapped the receiver to larger size mount screws, and properly installed a steel base plate and steel rings, and the rifle shot like a laser ! I hunted everything in Alaska for ten years with an old 300 wby fiber mark. was a fine shooting rifle
Depends who you talk to and what book you read. Many show the wby faster when using the same bullet. Also more wby have a longer barrel where many rum have a shorter barrel
If I was to choose the perfect long distance hunting rifle for here out west, that'd be the chambering. But for most hunting situations I'm just fine with my RA Compact in 308.
I have the Vanguard Bonze in 300 WBY it does shoot great, check actions screws every couple of shots, might save you some aggravation, mine loads up with copper actually very quickly, I know you don't like cleaning guns however if you loose accuracy getting rid of the copper will help tons.
I won a 300 weatherby mag in the first gen vanguard model years ago. The price of the ammo got me back into reloading. Still, loading 300wby ammo after loading a batch of 6mm rem made me feel like I was shoveling coal into the brass. 😆

About twenty five years ago, a friend won a raffle at a wild game dinner. There were a few rifles to choose from (a .257 Roberts among others) and he chose the .300 Weatherby. After finding out how much ammunition would cost him, and realizing how overpowered it would be for whitetail deer, he sold it without ever firing it. A Weatherby advertising pamphlet that he got at the same time had a safari hunter’s story about killing a rhinoceros with the .300 Weatherby. It seems to have enough punch to get the job done, regardless whatever you’re hunting. Looking forward to further videos of your new bing-bang, Adam. 👍🏼
Also the 30 nobler and hornady superformance in 300win are at 3100 the truth can only come out over the chronograph. I've cronographed the 165 gr coppe superformance in 300win at 3285 out of my winchester mod70 with a 26 in barrel
I have had one for a Mark V in the 300 W. Mag. Reminds me of your wood stock Vanguard. Really nice shooting rifle. Also, does a great job on elk. It packs a bunch. 180gr. is what I have been loading. Thinking for going up to 200gr. I will be interested in seeing what powder you will eventually use. I have been using H1000 and have had good luck with it.
Do you think that Arken Zulu night vision can handle the new magnum 300 , I would love to see if it can handle the recoil and hold zero Even if it’s not your dedicated scope for that new rifle , I would love to see if both of these new toys would play nice together ..
Mama always said you can't ever have to many gun's. I have a 300 weatherbY that was a sniper rifle in Vietnam. Bought her in the eighties on a Remington BDL 700. open sight set at 600 yards. The old gunsmith I got her from set it up at that distance. Could never afford a scope it would not destroy so I left it open sight.
You have forgotten the .300 Pegasus made by A-square in 1994 and that is above the .30-378 Weatherby magnum and also a true barrel burner. It is even recognised by our European CIP but being honest, very uncommon and even more now because A-Square no longer exists.

I have a Weatherby 300magnum vanguard series 2 rifle & not only does that thing kick like angry mule but it is very hard to find the ammo for it & when you do find ammo it is EXPENSIVE!! Last time I bought ammo I just went with the 300 WIN mag because that;s all I could find & it is much cheaper. Somebody tried to tell me not to shoot the winmag rounds because the rifle might explode but that is a hot load of b.s. because the winmag produces a lot less pressure, there is no way I would shoot a weatherby 300 round out of a rifle chambered in 300 WINmag though because then you are over pressurizing that barrel. WHO TEE WHO I advise you to wear a thick coat & put a nice rubber boot on the end of that Weatherby 300mag rifle, your shoulder will appreciate it! lol

I drank up a Winchester 70 in 300 Weatherby back years ago. Truth be told I drank up a lot of guns during my divorce. Back to my point.....I replaced the 300 Weatherby with a 300 RUM in a Winchester 70. I don't like it as well. The 300 Weatherby was blue/wood and the newer 300 RUM is stainless and I put a boyd's laminate on it. If you can't do it with a 300 Weatherby you need a bigger bore.....not a bigger case.

Near as we could determine, it hit 2" low at 100 yards, 1-1/2" low at 200, 3/4" low at 300 and was dead-nutts on at 400 yds. Left it where it was at. Only problem he has is chasing animals away from him 'till they're out about 400 yards , then he holds dead on. . . ☆
🤣🤣🤣
300 wby is a great caliber. Plus you can get ammo from Weatherby when you couldn't get ammo a few years ago. I have the Weatherby Mark V Ultralight RC.
Lazzaroni has some fast 30 cals too.
Keep on buyin, I'll keep on watchin...😊.
Very nice! Iirc the 300rum holds like 10-20% more powder than the 300wby.
Great rifles but buying a Vanguard only gets you a Weatherby by name because they're made by Howa. I got a Vanguard in 300 Win Mag for my high school graduation back in 89. That was a great shooting rifle, 4 shots groups under 1" easily and
.5" shooting reloads. Idk about now but as I recall, back then the Vanguard and Howa rifles were nearly identical. I looked at an identical rifle recently in 257 Weatherby.
Favorite gun channel of all, keep doing what you do!
🙏🙏🙏 appreciate you watching
That case looks like a Ackley-Improved round with the square shoulders like that
I own all 3 love the weatherby but but even with same barrel length the 300 rum kills it u can easily get 3400 with 180 in 26 inch barrel rum
I have some Lazzaroni ammo. Very fast stuff for a wildcat.
first thing I would do is take that pic rail off and loc tight a high quality steel pic rail with high end steel rings.
I love my 300 wby mag
It’s in a Remington 700
CDL SF some once every year flash one 👍🇦🇺
I got a break put on it
No issue with recoil
300 wby magnum. Would be 3rd though.
1. 30-378 Wby
2. 300 Rem Ultra
3. 300 Wby
You are correct sir
300 RUM IS AMAZING & FUN! Though my good muzzle brake and butt pad might have me biased.
Very impressive boolot slinger dude definitely has the horsepower for big game great show
Depends who you talk to and what book you read. Many show the wby faster when using the same bullet. Also more wby have a longer barrel where many rum have a shorter barrel
The 30-378 just isn’t a practical cartridge for most .
Love your content Adam I'll never tell anybody they're buying too many guns that would be un American.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You must have forgotten about the 300 RUM
The 300 Weatherby was used in Africa and with proper bullets dropped elephant. And the rest of the Big Five.
I like the 300 H&H my buddy had one it was sweet...
If I was to choose the perfect long distance hunting rifle for here out west, that'd be the chambering. But for most hunting situations I'm just fine with my RA Compact in 308.
99% of the time I have no desire to carry a rifle over 8lbs.. But if I had the right tag and right place, I'd go with a beast like that for sure
You definitely want to reload for it. Them 300 weatherby mags will make the dollars boogie right out of your wallet
I have the Vanguard Bonze in 300 WBY it does shoot great, check actions screws every couple of shots, might save you some aggravation, mine loads up with copper actually very quickly, I know you don't like cleaning guns however if you loose accuracy getting rid of the copper will help tons.
Hi Adam
The 300 RUM im faster and commercially available. The 7.82 Lazeroni had loads faster than the 30-378. The RUM is a lot larget than the 300WBY.
I won a 300 weatherby mag in the first gen vanguard model years ago. The price of the ammo got me back into reloading. Still, loading 300wby ammo after loading a batch of 6mm rem made me feel like I was shoveling coal into the brass. 😆
That cartridge would be super powerful!
Adam, Rumor has it the guy who traded it in . He had his shoulder in a sling.😮
🤣🤣🤣
Was asleep at the helm :) thanks for this one probably more kick then I want but can't wait to see how it goes! Also loved the stats .308 vs 7-08 and 7-08 vs 25-06 Love the 08 and the 06 on the last two videos I watched. Be well :)
Thanks for watching
@@WHOTEEWHO Hey Adam I get more from you and your videos regarding ballistics and watching you shoot that gives me good advice then most all the others. There are a few of you guys that really put it out there right and I see your videos most. To you and yours, Be well and thanks, Tom
Ive seen a 300wby drop a doe at 550yds. Its a brick thrower.
I bet that cannon kicks like a mule! Nice rifle!
So I have a 1917 Enfield 30'6. I expect it can handle hand loads.. What more do you need. It was commissioned from South Carolina for the Marines in 1952, for sniper school. I'll keep Old school!
I'm sure we've all noticed you shoot out of a lead slead. Sure be nice to see you shoot off a bag or off hand. Love the channel keep it up.
Thanks for watching
@@WHOTEEWHO just one round dare ya
@@davidheath2427 I have hundreds of videos shooting of bipod, bags, off-hand. I prefer the sled. Proven many times over and over getting clover leaf groups from a sled
Working on a straight 10MM Rifle Cartridge. Because it's a 10MM, that's why.
New Scope New Gun New Die , Lord son. Give that poor old card a little time to cool down.
I'd love to see how the 300 Weatherby stacks up against the 300 Rum should be interesting to see the difference
Your Dentest will love you. lol. Had one hated the kick can’t wait for your viedo
Also the 30 nobler and hornady superformance in 300win are at 3100 the truth can only come out over the chronograph. I've cronographed the 165 gr coppe superformance in 300win at 3285 out of my winchester mod70 with a 26 in barrel
Do a .375 ruger test. Crazy Crazy energy.
Id rather take the recoil than the concussion from muzzle breaks
I have had one for a Mark V in the 300 W. Mag. Reminds me of your wood stock Vanguard. Really nice shooting rifle. Also, does a great job on elk. It packs a bunch. 180gr. is what I have been loading. Thinking for going up to 200gr. I will be interested in seeing what powder you will eventually use. I have been using H1000 and have had good luck with it.
I own 30-378 Wby, a 300 Wby, a 300 PRC and a 300 RUM and my PRC actually is last of all.
Awesome! I love my weatherby vanguard in 300weatherby
300 Remington Ultra Mag is #2 ,you are a Remington guy WTH don't let em down and get ya one!
Already have one
Do you think that Arken Zulu night vision can handle the new magnum 300 , I would love to see if it can handle the recoil and hold zero
Even if it’s not your dedicated scope for that new rifle , I would love to see if both of these new toys would play nice together ..
Have to find out
I have a couple weatherby rifles but I tend to avoid the weatherby caliber’s due to the high cost of the ammunition
I have a 340 Weatherby mag and it is a beast.Same case as the 300 but.338 diameter bullets!
Lovely new piece of artillery. 😉
I think it’s a wildcat or unofficial cartridge that isn’t sold anywhere but the 30-338 lapua is possibly one of the largest.
I would also wait for a sale on PSA, Dvor or GunDeals shows often Vortex on sale.
Love them big rifles. I want to get into reloading myself
Howa makes a fine rifle. Good enough for weatherby to put there name on it.
Thanks & yes, I'm an Arken guy too - take car and try to stay out of trouble!
I am from Austia, mozart not kangaroooos, we love you here! But you work way to much, always watch your health! We need you but your familie needs you way more!
best greetings!
Gotta pay my bills. Otherwise we will be out on the street
I just got a weatherby vangaurd first generation in 300 weatherby mag today. I actually found some Federal trophy ammo from my local ffl from 1993. 200 grain bear claws. Really interested in shooing it. Let me know how it shoots
WHO TEE WHO I advise you to wear a thick coat & put a nice rubber boot on the end of that Weatherby 300mag rifle, your shoulder will appreciate it! lol
The .300 Win mag. will always be more accurate. That's why snipers choose the .300 Win. mag.
WTW, please remember the chrony😂 I just got a Glock 40 but I was looking for a 10mm in the AR platform that you briefly showed, man that is a sweeeeeeet looking Bing Bang!!! 😁👍👍
Jaw Dropping! Saw 2 of the Pew Pews that are on my list. That 300 WBY is a keeper, take just about anything in Africa, and Alaska. Let me know how your shoulder holds up. That CMMG.....next on my list. Love my 10's. Might have to dip into my savings if you decide to let that CMMG go. hmmm Can't wait for the upcoming vids!!
You being such a Remington fan I would have thought you knew, the 300 REMINGTON ULTRA MAG will Donkey Stomp a 300 Weatherby.
Not necessarily true
If you bought a Weatherby, you should have bought the DGR, in 416 WBY, 400 grains at 2700 fps is insane.
Got one!
I’ve got the 416 Wby Deluxe.
Yep the vanguard is a pretty nice rifle… I’ve had a couple of them… thanks buddy…
Cant wait for the 300 RUM vs 300 WBY videos. Be cool to see comparision.
I have one stainless steel barrel but we struggle for ammo here in Tanzania and expensive (if you can do drop test I like to see ) thank you
I drank up a Winchester 70 in 300 Weatherby back years ago.
How about trying one of the 5-30x56 discovery optics, definitely budget minded and I’m curious about how someone that will actually use one will like it!
hey brotha adam , very very nice rifle n pickup there , great find indeed , now is the 220 swift much faster than that round in f.p.s. ? , ie like the .22/.250 ? , much smaller rounds ? , your knowledge is off the charts n it would be very fun to shoot n hunt with you , i would love it , to bring down some game brotha , thanks n keep em coming , talk soon > tom !
THANK YOU BRUDDAMAN , talk soon adam > tom !
That is an elk and bear howitzer
Fantastic, I hope you still got your 6.5 300 as well
Yup
Rum is second. Mine pushes the 245 bergers at 3140fps. 230’s at 3280fps. I love the case. So i also have 26,28,30 nosler. One rifle 3 barrels
