Yes, it's actually terrible when a teacher calls out the combinations step by step. There are only 1 or 2 corrections in the whole hour and a half, and they usually addressed to the class in general, but to no one in particular, and always after the exercises are finished.

Ballet wouldn't be the same without you! Your videos are the BEST. When anyone is struggling in ballet, you help them, which is a good thing! 👍💜☆ You're so amazing!
I am a guy and my teacher is really critical about me dancing on point. So after being rejected every time I bring the topic up I decided to just do it at home. I just bought my pointshoes a few days ago, it feels really easy and intuitive so far, but I know that I should go slow and steady. I am still recovering from a sprained ankle from a few months ago, so I can't properly point my left foot which kinda sucks as well. So I am doing a lot of one foot exercises (especially training spins on my right foot) and no jumps for a few weeks now
There is a video on utube of another NYCB ballet dancer who showed a younger NYCB dancer how to eliminate that puckering of the toe shoe at the heel and making the foot so tapered and sleek. It makes the pointe shoe look so much better on the foot.
I am getting back on pointe after a 10 year stop (injury + pregnancy + life stuff), and this complements the work I do in class amazingly! I particularly love the releves with the little metatarsal lifts. Thank you from the bottom of my blisters! :)
I love how you kept saying "good" in between, while there was no one doing the steps except for you. Such a positive teacher! Great exercises, very clean and clear.
Hey! Thank you so much for making this! I recently quit ballet due to financial issues, so being able to still do pointe because of you makes me so happy! Thank you! 💜💜💜
I have been waiting for this video! I am a pointe beginner, my teacher said i am ready to do centre work on pointe with one standing leg, but i cannot believe myself, being afraid to fall off and sprain my ankle. This would be helpful. Thank you! And ive always thought your legs are so beautiful.
Awww thank you! And I understand - pointe work has a lot to do with being confident! So just take your time and make sure you have good placement. You can do it!
Great instruction Kathryn. I'm 64 and returned to ballet 2 years ago (last doing it at age 15) in order to improve my balance. Been back en pointe for 6 months now and just at the stage where I am able to balance on 2 feet - just need to get them stronger to go further!
I'm 33, took ballet when I was four and never again. I have always loved it though, and as an adult, I've really wanted to do pointe work. Videos like these make me want to just get up and start dancing even though I have practically zero ballet training (I tap dance though which I started at 24). Sorry, I'm blabbing. Just thanks for making these vids for us old ladies with pipe dreams.
rachael lamothe omg yes! I thought I was the only crazy one. Haha. I might go to the Russian ballet school and take some classes because they have beginning adult ballet AND beginning adult pointe! One day I will get en pointe! One day!
I know you wrote this a year ago.... but I wanted to share my story. I took ballet for approx 2- 3 years as a little kid (like 4-ish). I stated again as a fairly old adult. I have taken 3 full years and 4 months (including over the summers). I just got on pointe a week ago! Had my first class yesterday. So far so good. Not sure how far I will be able to take it but to have earned the shoes is awesome! They are so pretty! And I do have some foot issues (surgery on my right foot and I have a rod in my right foot and a nub on the big toe and arthritis on the left foot... lol... ) and I am curvy (size 14)... needn't to lose a few pounds probably makes it harder too. Anyway, if you want to do it you should try!
Ive been doing ballet since i was 2 and now i can final go up on pointe after watching the big kids after our lesson finished. This is such an accomplishment
That opening shot, though!!! So classy!!!! *EDIT* It looks even better at the end! I need to see a photoshoot! Also, could you please do another center? That would be great!
Yes more pointe please! All your videos are a great compliment for my home practice and makes me so much better in class! Thank you so much for all the hard work you do to put this together ❤️
I watch every single video of yours, even though I never danced before and probably will never go to a dance class because of my illness. However, I love listening to your explanations and getting a deeper understanding for ballet, I love ballet soooo much!
Thank you so much for sharing, I appreciate you even going through a correct way to tie your pointe shoes! I have been teaching beginning and continuing pointe classes and your tips are incredibly helpful and give me inspiration for my classes! ❤️
I'm 9 starting dance next year/2022. Im doing Jazz, Tap and Ballet. My friend inspired me everysingle day and got me more excited. She taught me a few moves at school, and now i've been watching videos of Ballet, tap and jazz. I'm so glad to be moving on and finally doing some dance! But my mother gets really annoyed if how expensive the point shoes are 😂😂 but im still grateful that she is actually letting me do dance. 😍🥰
I go to a dance studio that isn't very ballet-focused, we have one pointe class and there's only three of us in it! I'm 16 and have been doing pointe for 3 years, but still consider myself a "beginner" because we just don't do it enough. Long story short, this video is absolutely perfect for me to keep up my pointe work in the off-season! Amazing tips and very well-structured, all at a perfect level for me!
Yeees, thank you! I think I'm trying it tomorrow to break in my new pair of pointes. I got mine a year or year and a half back(I'm 28) and only worked on them a bit and then for long while I haven't been on them for life reasons. I've been dancing regularly, just not on pointe, and now I'm afraid I've lost some strength. But now I want to get back into it, and that seems a perfect place to start! Thanks!
This is awesome! I'm not a ballet dancer (yet!) so I can't do these excercises, but this is the perfect motivation to get to a class and work on strengthening my feet and technique so I can do pointe work someday...
Girl NO. NEVER go on pointe if you haven’t been told yes by a professional! That is extremely dangerous. Pointe shoes aren’t toys, they can straight up break your toes!
The place I live has only one ballet teacher and I have classes only an hour a week. This video is great for me to practice more often, so please do more begginer pointe classes. I love your channel!
Questions. Your tights look like they actually come cutout at the heel and toes? Or do you cut them? Also, how do you feel about darning point shoes? It seems like I see more dancers from Europe with darned shoes.
On another video Kathryn mentioned she used Body Wrappers tights. If you go to their website, it looks like they have a pair that are pre-cut that way.
I love darning my shoes, and when I know I'm performing on a stage where I can't use rosin and/or it's a hollow or extra loud stage I'll darn the entire tip and the trapzoid where the folds are. It certainly extends the amount of "pretty" for my shoes as well.
PLEASE keep the teaching/exercises videos coming! This year I'm going to be teaching levels I've never taught before, and I can use all the tips I can get! :)
I started dancing on age 1 and still dance on age 11. Its been 10 years and I still love dancing. I think dance is my life. I do Ballet, Jazz, Hip hop, Cheer and contortion.
I’ve been on pointe for 4 years from the age of 11 but last year I was out of ballet for 3 months due to an injury and now my feet are no where near as strong so this is really helping me! Thank you
Did you do a video on chaînés en pointe? If not could you please! I have had 1 year of pointe and can do double pirouettes and double piques but I can not get completely accross the floor when I was doing chaînés.
Please do more videos like this! It is the perfect length to do in addition to my regular classes! I use this one so much I would love more for variety! Thank you!!
I just got my first pont shoes today, they're fitting perfectly. :) I'm practicing ballet for weight loss and posture correction at home, as a form of excercise. :)
A lot of the things you say to get comfy in point shoes I do in sneakers for fun. This is just a sign for me to finally get back into ballet to do point
I only want to say thank you so so so much Kathryn Morgan for sharing all your amazing and helpful videos and your tips. Can't wait for the next one. Love from Italy!!
Thank you so much Kathryn! This is so helpful! I just started on pointe so I am really excited! I love all of your videos and you are such an inspiration! I was just wondering: Is it normal that your feet do get numb in pointe shoes? If not, what should I do? I am new on pointe so I am still learning everything. 😀😀😀
I've been en pointe for about a year now, and my toes still occasionally go numb. But, it could be because you are wearing to much padding, or your box is to small. When I either wear to much padding or my box is to small I can't feel my toes. However, I've since stopped wearing padding (I tried it a few times, and it just didn't work) and I now just tape my toes and go and I rarely have numb toes anymore.
Ok, thanks for replying. That is good to know. But funny because I only wear ouch pouches and spacers. Not even toe tape or extra lambs wool or anything. And pointe shoe fitters said my box was actually too wide...🤔🤔🤔
+ Harley Quinn Same! I had been en pointe for 4 or 5 years before I figured it out. Now I only wear gel caps on my big toes and I can pointe and really use my feet *so* much better. I started with Ouch Pouches but the seam *killed* my toes. After 3 or 4 years I switched to Gellows which didn't have a seam, but I still couldn't feel the floor. I'm considering getting Lamb's Wool but I'm in no hurry since just the gel caps is working fine. +Jodi Unicorn It might take a few years of trial and error but I'm sure you'll figure it out!
It's a lot of trial and error! I found when I wore too much padding, my shoes were WAY to tight and I couldn't feel the floor. So maybe play around with it. It takes a little while, but you will figure out what works for you!
Thanks all so much for replying. I am so happy! I will definitely play around with it. I might try just plain lamb's wool. Especially during the summer intensive I am going to🤗🤗🤗
I've been rehabbing a torn ankle ligament for nearly 4 months now, close to returning to pointe work. This will be perfect to do alongside the physio and conditioning, outside of the studio - thank you so much! Kat x
Thank you so much for this! I was always denied pointe when I was a child in ballet school and eventually gave it up. I look forward to trying pointe again on my own. Thank you!!

Hi, I did ballet for nine years, but I wasn't strong enough to get to points at the time. I can now stand on pointe and hold it longer than thirty seconds. I was not able to get my splits but I am working on them now. I guess I was just a late bloomer when it came to progressing. Thank you for all the videos they are wonderful!

Can you do another beginner ballet class, or one that focuses on coming back from an injury? Also our teacher doesn't really want us to wear pointe shoes outside of class for safety reasons. is that the case for a lot of beginner pointe students?
Kathryn Cookson yes, it is absolutely normal for your teacher not to want you on pointe out with class. As a beginner your technique is still not very developed, and it is likely that you will make mistakes which without supervision could ruin your technique or cause injuries.
Yes, that is very common. She wants to make sure that you are doing things properly. Pointe shoes can be dangerous. I will work on doing more classes for dancers coming back from injuries!
Kathryn Morgan thanks, I figured that was the case. I just started taking pre-pointe classes before I tore my Achilles, so I have a lot of work ahead of me now. Your videos are always so informative, and look forward to everything that's to come. 💜
Teachers really emphasize not trying things you aren't ready for, and I've even known studios that make their beginner pointe students leave them at the studio. It's just so tempting to try all the "tricks" you've dreamed of doing en pointe!
This video helped me so much when I first started pointe two years ago. I became stronger faster than some of the other girls in my class. Now, I'm coming back with new pointe shoes to break them in again!!!

Kathryn Morgan Especially the Perfect Pointe custom ones. :)
I'm starting point after Christmas SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited
Yay! That's so exciting!
Me right now (:
Me too!!@
OMG! Same!
Pointe*
I'm almost 35 and I did one beginners ballet class a few years ago. I'm thinking of starting for strength and enjoyment because why not?
Ive been doing ballet since i was 2 and now i can final go up on pointe after watching the big kids after our lesson finished. This is such an accomplishment
That opening shot, though!!! So classy!!!!
*EDIT* It looks even better at the end! I need to see a photoshoot! Also, could you please do another center? That would be great!
Goals is right! I don't know that I'll ever get a wing that gorgeous, no matter how hard I try!
Awww thank you! Yes, will definitely work on another center.
Great video! Thanks.
Kathryn Morgan Could you do a pointe centre class? I don't do pointe but I'd be really interested to see what professionals do in the centre.
I learnt kathak for 9yrs now I am 14 yrs old and I have been fascinated by ballet and I found you as my teacher who will guide me to be a ballerian
I'm almost thirty and getting back on pointe after 4 years off has been a work out hard, this video helped me a lot!
Thank you! This is my favorite beginner pointe class. I've done it almost every day!
Thank you! My pleasure! Yes- a lot of students don't tie their ribbons correctly. So I thought I would add that in there!
So happy I found this! Getting over a bad knee injury and need to get back on pointe.
Wish I'd had something like this during my dancing years!
Where did you get your ballet skirt? It's beautiful.
Who’s watching in 2020 bc of corona 😂
meh xD
Me XD
Me lol
Ducky Lucky same x
Meh🤗
Your tip at the end changed the game for me completely. Finally I manage to get over the box properly 😍 Thank you so much!!!
Thanks!
Please more pointe classes. I really enjoy your classes. Thank you.
This is awesome! I'm not a ballet dancer (yet!) so I can't do these excercises, but this is the perfect motivation to get to a class and work on strengthening my feet and technique so I can do pointe work someday...
I'm glad this will motivate you! And you can get there!
I wish you continued success teaching others and spreading joy of dance
Please will you to an intermediate type one? Then advanced :)
I've danced since I was 11, at 16 I got injured per malpractice, 18 now and am finally able to pick it back up. Thank you for your videos.
I am a self taught dancer and this is really helping me
Do you go on pointe :?
Mariana R. Thanks so much!
You're welcome! I might try them too as my tights pull on my toes. I'd rather have free toes! :)
The tights cut like that are called stirrup tights by different brands BTW
I love dancing too. Especially ballet. I feel more stronger.
Yes!! More pointe classes please!! I love them
please more of these classes ❤
I don't get my pointe shoes untile 3 months from now but even doing these on demi point is so useful for strength and flexibility I love your videos!
I love the color of your skirt!
Thank you!!
IM GETTING FITTED ON MARCH 30,2019 IM SO EXCITED!!!!! 😊
I’m doing this once every day now because I’m coming off a dislocated big toe. Thanks Katie!
Bless you, Katie! This workout will be fantastic to do during my two-month break of classes. Thank you for everything you do with this channel.
Best beginner point class ever!
I just got my first pont shoes today, they're fitting perfectly. :) I'm practicing ballet for weight loss and posture correction at home, as a form of excercise. :)
dont do pointe without a teacher. esp not for “weight loss”
A lot of the things you say to get comfy in point shoes I do in sneakers for fun. This is just a sign for me to finally get back into ballet to do point
I get my pointe shoes on the 24th of July!🤗😱
Yay!
congrats
Lauren Webb that when I got mine !!! How's it going ?
I have ordered pointe shoes and I'm getting them on Thursday or Friday and I love this this shall always be my exercise! :)
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
Kat x
you are physic! Just been given the ok to start pointe again! (I did it as kid but the shoes did not fit me at all, and it hurts so much!)
Yay! Glad this helps!
@@kathryn_morgan you help me so much😊
you are a great teacher!! this really helped me! thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I was always denied pointe when I was a child in ballet school and eventually gave it up. I look forward to trying pointe again on my own. Thank you!!
Since I am currently the only student on pointe at my rather small dance studio, this video serves as both encouragement and motivation for me to work out my pointe shoes! :) Thank you!
Ballet is my life. I did ballet for a while 😁😁😁
What a great video really clear instructions my daughter struggles to straighten her knee´s when on pointe so i think this will help her with it she will be 22yrs in June i have sent her the link just hope she watches it and does the excises but really amazing Kathryn Morgan
please will you help with turnout on pointe? I'm really struggling an everything I do looks ugly because its turned in!xxx
Hi Kathryn! I've been using your videos for practice for over 2 years now and I have never felt better! I loved this video and will be practicing it for a long time! Keep them coming, you are such an inspiration to all of us! much love XOXO!
I'm wearing my moms old ballet shoes and my pointe is still a bit wobbly but after watching this, I succeeded!!!😆😆😆😝
The Potionist Oh dear! They're probably dead! Don't use them TOO much, not very good for your feet!
Maddygirlz123 Thanks for the advice! I might be getting new pointes in a few weeks!! Im so excited!! ♥
The Potionist YAY!
Maddygirlz123 Thank you! 😊Your probably the nicest person online♥
Kathryn Thank you so much for showing the exercises also on your back . I have trouble with orientation and this has been sooo helpful!!!
Very helpful !! Just started pointe and found this very useful x
I'm so glad this is helpful!
I did ballet from age 12-32. I had to stop, but have missed it. I have been very active otherwise, but I'm coming back to ballet.Thank you for doing this.
i wonder how do you step on point shoes... do your fingers lay on something or are you inmediatly ON your fingers...
I don't know if you understand my question, sorry for my bad english😃
Potato Powers i think so
You are actually on your bones - that is why it is important to have strong feet and ankles!
Lol fingers
you are standing on the block of the pointe shoe, which is a platform for your toes :)
Can you do a video or series on exercises for people who want to get en pointe as soon as possible?
I wanna update everyone. I get my first pointe shoes in 5 days, on Saturday, January 5th!
I do ballet and this really helped my pointe shoe work
Yay! I am so excited that you made this video, it will help so much. I love that blue color on you, it's gorgeous🙂
Thank you!
What a wonderful teacher you are. Prepared, precise and a wonderful communicator. :]
anyone else laying in bed watching this?
i am a part time dancer at my dance studio. my studio does not teach part time dancers pointe. i just got my pair of pointe shoes and i am trying to be just like the full time dancers. please keep making videos because this one has already helped me so much! 😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the point barre. I am returning to pointe as an adult dancer. I would love more pointe barre and center work!!
3:12 is when it starts
This video helped me so much when I first started pointe two years ago. I became stronger faster than some of the other girls in my class. Now, I'm coming back with new pointe shoes to break them in again!!!
