BROTHER loose ends were one of those bands that were way too advanced for that time. Musicians of real!
I was a sound engineer in those days worked with all the british rnb groups including loose ends . Best days of my career. Now retired as i cant be in a studio infront of a computer with little or no talent. Soo glad god gave me that time period and honoured to have worked with the british soul rnb artists .
That is AWESOME! 🙌🏽
still musicians out there with plenty of talent, just gotta know where to look. and it's not like computers weren't a part of the process in the 80s, though in a rudimentary way compared to now.
Lucky you…jealous!
What a great time
@@romulus_ let's be real. There's no soul in musicians today...
1985. They are a R&B group. Now, this is an extra chilly most joint! Loose Ends (& Soul II Soul) showed that brothers and sisters in the UK had soul too!! You Can't Stop The Rain, Slow Down & Watching You are some more super jammy jams from them. Requests: Bobby Brown- Don't Be Cruel album. New Edition- NE Heartbreak album. The New Edition Story movie.
This is what you call "timeless" music. Songs like this never get old.
Thank you for reacting to this. I am a black kid who grew up in Midwest, listening to traditional American R&B and soul. Loose ends introduced me to the concept of the black diaspora and the reality that there was tremendous black, cultural talent, and relevance beyond our shores, it’s hard to recognize now, but They brought a completely new sound and production capability to the music we were listening to at the time. And they influenced American music and ways that weren’t really understood at the time and even now.
He is going to join the time machine. Congratulations young man, you have just been blessed with great music.
Carl mackintosh (the main guy singing) was the lead pioneer of what became the soul 2 soul sound, combining beats and basslines from lover's rock (a form of reggae) with Chicago and detroit soul/hip hop grooves
Thank you for breaking this down. That's a true amalgamation of music from the diaspora! Im based in the US and grew up listening to is. now that I know this info I cant unhear it. That baseline is straight lovers rock! and the other part of the beat is pure hip hop house blend. Ahh! This is why I love comment sections with real music heads. I've always been fascinated with UK R&B.
Five star- let me be the one
They helped epitomize The Black British Soul Movement that unfortunately got overlooked by Groups like Duran Duran, Wham, Madness, Tears For Fears, Banarama amongst others. Also keep in mind that the Second Wave of the British Invasion was from 1983-1986. Also if you can check out Joyce Sims, Billy Ocean, Soul To Soul. The UK also had an amazing Girlband named Eternal and a Group called Damage. One of the Members Jade Johnson is married to Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice of The Spice Girls.
Don't forget the fine young cannibals
The Family Stand "Ghetto Heaven"
Loose Ends were basically a British S.O.S. Band and that is definitely a good thing.
The true precursor to the genre Neo Soul
Loose Ends was the Genisis of the the Black British Soul Invasion of the 80's that Brought us Five Star, Musical Youth , Soul II Soul Caron Wheeler and The Brand New Heavies
I seem to remember the band _Heatwave_ too. I heard that Rod Temperton (from Cleethorpes in Yorkshire) wrote hits for MJ including "Off the Wall".
I had every one of those albums.
@@donovanwray5974 were Heatwave members from the UK? New news to me if so
@@imar3248 I'm sorry, I was wrong. Only Rod Temperton was from the UK 🤔🥺
@@donovanwray5974 quite alright! I didn’t even know Rod was British. Learned something new❤️
There is nothing like 70s/80s music.
I’m so happy the young generation is appreciating these gems. I too became enamored with this era of music and it’s not even really my generation. This was my parents music 😎
I love "Slow Down" as well. Great reaction! The old school songs will never let you down!😎
This song came out in the late 80's and this genre is R&B
Big up creamone nice selection..
Id Call it Brit Street Soul...
@@louisokeefe8307 it's called British funk
@@ksager123 Brit Street Soul...
@@louisokeefe8307 thats not what loose ends called it...
Absolutely classic 80s dope jam with simply genre-defining production. Loved Loose Ends! Brings back great block party memories as a kid. Hats off to you for reviewing.
The UK had some slamming artists Soul 2 Soul Five Star Junior... My parents used to play this jam.. They created a buzz when they performed on soul train..
Roland 808 Drum Machine still rocks to this day!!!
A Nick Martinelli production. I think he also produced Phyllis Hyman's 1987 album... umm... can't remember it while I'm listening to this.
My 8th grade math teacher Ms. Daniels loved this group "Slow Down" was her song.
The U.K. had some Bad Ass RnB artists come out in the 80’s. This was one of them. This song still kick ass today! Also, the video was pretty good for the 80’s. Great song.
I have always loved this! Wonderful song from the past!
Fell in love with this group when I first heard them. Stationed in Korea. An Under appreciated group but fantastic sound.
Y'all know Slow Down is that hit that Lost Boys sampled. "Is this the part you take my heart to wipe your feet on"
Snoop sampled it too
This song has always been a favorite of mine from my high school days in LA.
One of my favorites along with "Stay a Little While"
You can tell they were influenced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Jam and Lewis went to confront them backstage after one of their shows for stealing their sound. When they met them, Jam said that they were so cool that it was too hard to be mad with them and they apologized for stealing their sound.
That is not true, where did u even read this?
@@annaeep2839 Terry Lewis said this in an interview years ago on Video Soul or some show back in the 80s. His words, not mine.
@@annaeep2839 And if you googled this topic, there are several articles about it.
Hanging on a string is better than anything Jam & Lewis made
this doesn't sound like jimmy jam to me
Loose ends are the pioneers of british rnb for me
Unique jam... another group with this style were 52nd Street, try "Tell Me" (british too I guess). And even today there are artists who make such unique Loose Ends smooth sound.
Picked this album up on vinyl last year👊🏿
bro.. songs like this are such an embedded part of my childhood. Stuff like this would be playing on Saturday morning while Moms cussing me out for not cleaning my room 😂
This group is timeless!!
They had many HITS and videos.
Loose Ends - Slow Down / Sweetest Pain / Love's Got Me
52nd Street - Tell Me
Imagination - So Good So Right
This group was my all time favorite back in 1986-90 I was in the military. Used to play the hell outta this tape
I'm almost feel a Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis in this intro. Def that influence. All those pings and pongs little sounds, the keyboards are slammin 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
There Albums are on my Wall in My Studio!!!! LOOSE ENDS WERE PURE FIYA, THEY COULD NOT BE TOUCHED WITH THAT UK SOUND!!!
This song hit no 1 on the us charts but only 13 in the UK. Common for a lot of black uk artists i think during that time.
You need to do The Real Chuckeeboo. Their 3 song masterpiece that contains the top 10 R&B hit Mr. Batchelor.
I was introduced to Loose Ends in 1985 and this song has been one of my favourite songs and they are one of my all time favourite bands since then! Went to a record signing by the group in 1990 at HMV Stores in Oxford Street London and they were so nice and accommodating to all the fans who turned up - solidifying my love for them and their music. ❤
You've taught me something here. I still have the single from 1985 but have never heard the extended version.
Big Daddy Kane Sampled it for The Lover In You (Mr. Cee Remix) ... the original version of The Lover In You was nice too ( Sampled Prince's Pop Life)
THE first truely sophisticated soul song. No doubt. You got to listen on a good piece of equipment, and check out the stereo effects.
Great band. Try "Don't Be A Fool", "Watching You", and "Stay A Little While Child" by them. All great songs man. Also try some other great UK bands like Imagination doing " Just An Illusion" and "Changes", Soul II Soul doing "Back To Life", and "Keep On Moving' ", Heatwave doing "Boogie Nights", "Ain't No Half Steppin' ", and "Always and Forever" and Princess doing "Say I'm Your Number One". All tasty stuff.
This was when music was music , crackers ,studio 21, horseshoe, royalty, lycyam ,just some of the great soul clubs in London in the 80's playing this and other great UK soul and r&b band's music ✌️great happy period to be in trust me bro
Yes young man you keeping on paying attention to details not just the lyrics the style of voices. But the music and the production. UK soul love emulates American soul back then. They admired the west this was a banger and still is back then people used to think they was american. You might be surprised how many artist that was from the UK. This came out in 1985 I know i was getting out of high school. Keep digging in the crates what they used to say you will find more gems.
One of my favorite 80 groups! Please do some electrofunk, Planet Patrol's "Play at Your Own Risk"
It was called funk I think, they had similar vibe to SOS band and stuff
Funk, soul, jazz, clubbing, hardcore dance music. Sophisticated.
I love loose ends saw them at the red parrot night club in new York back in 86 I think
All Time Favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time I hear this this song 🔥🔥🔥
This is a classic it never gets old 💃🏾🕺🏿
Yup, easily one of my all time favorites from them.
This will always be a banger. One of my favorites. I hear it and am instantly taken back to that time. 🤗💜💫✨🤌🏾🔥
Loose Ends was dope! Childhood cookout memories.
Deffo in my top 10 from the 80s. Awsome song.. 52nd st "tell me how it feels" 5th of heaven " just a little more" just a few more in the 80. The list goes on
Black British soul was the ish in the late 80's and 90's. Loose Ends. Soul II Soul. Young Disciples. Miss that vibe.
Saw Jane Eugene’s show in 2019. Missed Loose Ends in NYC that same year w Carl McCintosh and two other members.
Classic..wow
You nailed it--totally funky, totally cool vibe. Love to see you dig music from one of the best eras for great R&B.
I can remember this song playing on the radio years ago. I like that you picked it for your intro on some of your videos and the part you picked to play is one of my favorite parts of that song. Just slowly going through your catalog of videos and maybe by the time the pandemic is over I will have made a small dent, LOL.
lol!
This was my serious Groove back in 85-86!I was 20,21 when this came out in college digging life.
@justjammin...... I knew you was going to like that!!... This is 1984... If you listen to the drums.. Is the same drums that trap use...... This was a trio two guys one girl... The lineup changed with the girl when they had a new song called Don't be a fool.... They had two more singles you could Google that... another person of color from the UK to check out is... Terence Trent D'Arby song... Wishing well
💯 that is the trap drum pattern w/o the snare and hi-hat rolls
Ttd wasnt really in this league he was more pop than soul or r&b, but he was ok.
The last 2 minutes r musical heaven! I listened to this all thru 2013-2015 ....good times
This has been my ringtone for years. Can never get enough.
OMG this remind me of my momma on a Saturday waking up to this in the 80s
Those were the days, gone but never forgotten... Bro this was the Jam... what a timeless classic... the whole " So Where Are You " album is amazing, this really put Loose Ends up there with the rest. Nearly 4 decades later still sounds so so good, Nick Martinelli production, who also produced songs for 52nd Street and Change to name but a few.
So good to listening to that again, after so many years!
Certified banger! Smooth jam!
They were classed as funk i think, so many were british actually i didnt realise until i got older and thanks to google and wikipedia
The production on this sounds like Jam & Lewis. Don’t think it is though. This is definitely in my top 10 R&B joints of the 80s
Much better than Jam and Lewis
amazing uk 80s soul .; )
Love your reaction and same taste in music..brilliant reviews
I remember seeing them preform live at BBKings jazz club. Also recommend you to listen to Choose me and you can't stop the rain.
U have react to Loose Ends - Night Of Pleasure (Another Smooth R&B Classic)
Hanging on a String( Contemplating) is the actual title of this song. It was also one of their biggest hits in the States.
That's what's up man. You appreciate good music. Not just hip hop but good RnB music. Try Surface- Happy and Closer to you.
Great groove, check some Maxi Priest as well. And people can clown but Milli Vanilli was jammin back in the day as well
Their name should be “Tight Ends” LOL. Soooo cool. ❤️
Soul II Soul is another UK group you should check out. Suggest Back To Life and also Keep On Movin’
I've done both of those songs.
If you liked this, review "Watching You" by them to
Check out “You Can’t Stop The Rain, Nights Of Pleasure and Slow Down” Thanks.
Thanks for running it back!vI like this song it's so clear and funky
Uk's finest!
Come On Bro .. Loose Ends - Night Of Pleasure (The Beat Alone & Singers Voices)
Vertical Hold and Dina Carroll fit right in with this too.
Big Daddy Kane - "The Lover In You (Mister Cee's Remix)" .. "Hanging on a string" Loose Ends Sample on this ...
Wow have not heard this in a moment what a song 🎵. Am jamming
Priceless !
They do have other good songs. Try 'Stay a Little While'. Love that you did this song. Will you please do 'Dont Disturb This Groove' by The System? You rule, bro!!
British 80s soul is really overlooked,
Cheque out the SOS Band.
I've done 4 of their tracks.
@@JustJammin sorry mate I only noticed 5 mins after I sent the message. Lol.
You should listen to Loose Ends"look how long"-Album! You`ll love it!!
Check out the UK Street Soul genre! It's kinda derivative of this sound, with reggae basslines, proto-house grooves, it's so good!!!
Pure ear candy! 🔥
Check out loose ends ....cheap talk...and much more ,like ....don't be a fool...they. are fire 🔥
Such a jam! It gives me bay area vibes, thas why I bump it 😩

The Firemen sample the hell out this song with their song smoke wit me
Loose Ends = 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The UK has other bands from that time that are really good. Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Soul II Soul, and a little later, Jamiroquai are some examples. And of course, Average White Band.
You are so hilarious with your reactions bro!!!
