Reading all this smacktalk, but who here loves Dynasty Warriors 3 voice acting? I think Lu Bu's steals the show "GET OUTTA MY WAAAY". Followed by Zhang Liao's cocky voice "Excellent! I cannot fight against commoners". I think Xiahou Dun's voice is fittingly epic too. The Yellow Turbans voices are all hilarious in an unforgettable way "maaaaaaaaagiiiiiiccccc". I could go on & on. DW3 is the best!!
It made sense in context. Zhou Yu was working with Zhuge Liang on wanting to counter Cao Cao's navy. Zhou Yu got everyone to agree on a fire attack, but didn't keep track of which direction the wind would blow that day. It made him sick with worry, so Zhuge Liang came to Zhou Yu while bedridden to tell him that he's going to pray for the wind to blow (I think the reality is that he did some old-fashioned weather forecasting and framed it as if his prayer would work on its own).
There are some that are done very well like Zhuge Liang, maybe Cao Cao, and Meng Huo. Not sure for others which is why they put optional putting Japanese dub in DW3 and XL.
this game came out back at 2002 if i remember correctly. That was a time we were playing shitty games mostly. And i was so hyped for dw3 after playing 2. It was a masterpiece back than because non of the hack n slash games were like this. Voice acting was good for the german version i guess Dw2 didnt sell good in the english speaking countries.

The freaking 6yo me loved this game!! I always felt Cao Cao was the evil character. But I just bought 7 because of UA-cam nostalgia. And Cao Cao still felt bad, but not evil.

Some of these voices are still better than what they would become. This Zhao Yun is far more heroic. Xiahou Dun is fantastic, Cao Cao is good. Ma Chao and Zhang Liao are unique and not in a bad way. Liu Bei and Xu Huang were fine. Sima Yi was fun. Zhuge Liang just needed some coaching. They tried to find VAs that fit the Japanese grunts and yells and they did a great job for that purpose honestly. A lot of the voices were fine, just stilted.

Actually the only reason Zhang Fei died is because he was in a blind rage drunk off his ass and abused his men to the point they killed him in his sleep. He was only in that blind drunken rage because Guan Yu was killed.
The thing is this was based on the options in sound setting, changing it from Stereo to Mono, I always played the series this way.. sounds smoother and hear hidden content that you normally wouldn't hear!!
