Live from Montreux Jazz Festival 2023
If anyone ever asks what is the funk, just send them right here. This, this is the funk.
Nice funk played by white wahoo
@@urbanbader4113damn
My favorite ever Cory's piece, tightest iteration of The Hornheads, complete Foreign Motion in full swing, definitive MPLS funk sound and all that from their bucket list festival. What a feast.
Yohannes' stank face is ON POINT!
Yeah, it hurts a litte but it feels sooo good
That 16th note horn lift! Chef’s kiss!!
When the sum of the parts is much more than the individuals… A bandleader and his band all at the absolute top of their game, and at Montreux of all places! We are witnessing greatness here. Wow!
Goddamn. Guy's got a right hand like a friggin' blender. Respect.
How can every bass player be so perfect?
Prince would be proud! Bring it up, actual quality musicians, thats what we want! Keep it going, love it.
The "Billy Jack B*tch* homage was incredible
Well, 'New Dell Inn'.
❤
One of the best players to come along in eons.
Cory Wong and the band are so f'n groovy, glad to have seen them live twice, and can't wait for more live shows
Killer bass solo
The groove, the groove!!! Tight!
Man, that Strat sounds amazing
Yohanes tona great bassist❤❤❤❤
Thanks, Cory and all band. Each version of this song, I've heard is masterpiece. Sounds different and interesting.
Man even the room itself sounds good!
This setlist is so awesome.
Can anyone tell me why I love 🤩 funk music so much? Funk is the best music by a mile.
I may catch some flak for this, but I’ll preface the following by stating I’m being wholly sincere about it!
I’ve been a Prince fan since 1982 and when he died in 2016 I thought I would never feel that same sense of joy from music again. Those of us who were fortunate enough to experience what seeing Prince live was like will understand where I’m coming from.
The day I found Cory Wong and The Wong Notes a few years back was a day where I felt a huge void in my heart filled with a sense of hope and joy again.
While Cory can’t do what Prince did on stage (and let’s face it, why should he? He has no need to even try because he’s obviously quite happy navigating his own lane with particular aplomb anyway!) and other than seeing The NPG or The Revolution, he and his incredible band are the closest thing - for those who weren’t as fortunate as we were - to getting a sense of what a Prince show was like.
Please support this wonderful Artist and his equally fantastic coterie of talented Musicians. In the sphere of live music I can not understate how vital and important they are - especially right now when the world is darker and more unpredictable than ever, they bring a much welcome reprieve from the negativity outside and shine the brightest of light into the shadows.
*The vibe is real, and it’s name is Cory Wong.*
Please come back to England real soon Cory, we love ya! 🎸🎶💜
If there's one festival where this gang belongs, it's this one✌
Nice Cory! Any chance of Vulf taking an Aus tour?

This is good.
Cookin
👍👍👌
Makin' it happen....
💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sounds unreal!
What string-gauge is that? I read somewhere that Cory plays .10 but this sounds like more
You're correct, brotha. I have his Strat model and I popped on some 10s and it sounds exactly like his does. In my experience, and opinion, 10s are the absolute lightest gauge of strings you can use to play tight and high tempo funk on. With anything lighter, they tend to sound wrong and not hold up enough to the hammering you give em when playing 16th note chords like you need to
@@nickdrey1200 Yea I play .10 for many years now, but I prefer a variant with even thicker low strings.
But have you seen Welcome 2 Minneapolis *in* Minneapolis? It does feel good to be welcomed to your own home
Knock my socks offfffffffffffffff
Cory you should get some new merch based on the new Minnesota flag
Reminds me of TOP

Do I really need a compressor pedal to play funk on my strat? I never used one because I dont really know how do they work, never had one
You certainly can play with out one but it’s beneficial to have one. They essentially level out the dynamics of anything you play. If you set the attack really high you will hear it squashing the notes because it’s making everything the same volume. I run mine the same way as Cory. I set the level relatively high but have the sensitivity fairly low just to where it beefs up the notes and my attack. Hope this helps!
Ben
@@BenCDaugherty i will definitely try one, thank you for taking the time to answer ☺
Who has more fun on stage than these cats?
No one!
Which is Tower Of Power
More cow bell! 😂
1:42 here’s some.perhaps 4 hits ain’t enough
Oliver Tree up in the horns! lol
Why Sonny is never present on live shows?
Sonny didn’t go on the European tour- all these videos lately are that tour
This song isn't the same without the definitive Minneapolis bass player in the show! I hope Sonny comes back once we're back stateside! The one song that wasn't played at the show I went to this year that I wish was!
They all look like they're pooping
Would be better if it was authentic.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! This is not jazz! I don't know what this is BUT I do know it ain't no jazz! So why call it a JAZZ FESTIVAL?
its funk
The most overrated guitarist and the definition of “it’s not you. It’s the band that makes you sound good”
This guy just annoys tf out of me.
Just be a composer. Put some deserving in the guitar spot that matches the talent of every other member in the band.
get ignored
