i feel like the hairy bulborb was the most wasted pikmin enemy, the concept of a bulborb that doesn’t stop eating would've been so threatening but instead its a complete pushover because of its low hp
It should've been stronger than a bulborb, like a late game bulborb. It's mechanic (prioritising eating rather thank shaking) would've been pretty cool to work around
I would have done that just like Shaggy Longlegs, you can't deal damage to him unless you pluck off all its hair. Plus since he's an arctic animal, he's immune to things like Ice Pikmin freeze or ice blasts.
About Beady LongLegs in Pikmin 2, i guess the massive reduction on its power is for it to be an early boss so that the new LongLegs like the Man-at-Legs and the Raging LongLegs were the true difficult battles; but not only the Hp reduction is laughable from 5000 to 1300; and both new LongLegs bosses were not really that hard to begin with.
Man at legs may not be too difficult to people now, but to people who first play the game and to me as a child…yeah it definitely does leave an impression and is remembered as one of the most terrifying bosses if handled improperly. Agree on raging tho
According to the pikipedia in pikmin 3 the pikmin deal double damage on the first hit after latching onto enemies, which would explain why everything dies immediately in that game
I was wondering what was going on. The individual articles on Pikipedia for enemies present in both Pikmins 2 and 3 suggest that the HP of enemies was overall buffed across the board between games. It's actually easier to list the enemies that got nerfed, which are limited to ones that were already going down in one hit anyways (such as Dwarf Bulborbs, Sheargrubs, et cetera) and the Swooping Snitchbug.
Man at legs in pikmin 4 was not modified to deal with Oatchis increased mobility and ability to carry pikmin. He's just a pushover that cant even aim. A boss should not be this easy to avoid.
It does benefit from being able to destroy cover, and if it does hit you while you're riding Oatchi then it hits a bunch of Pikmin at once due to them being clumped up, but it is still uneven.
@@syweb2as a person who started playing when Pikmin 4 came out, and who’s first game was obviously Pikmin 4, when I got to the Man at Legs, I was really nervous because, well, he had a gun. But I left without a single Pikmin casualty because of the dog, and it was really just a pushover. I decided to go back and do it without Oatchi because it was unfun with him, and honestly, it was still really easy but it was at least a bit fun
Get hit riding oachi once and it’s perma-stunlock until pikmin extinction (source: I fucked up once during the fight and I instantly lost despite trying everything to make oachi stop falling over and causing the pikmin to get the “D-Day assault on German pillboxes” experience).
Puffstool in pikmin 4 got the **fattest** health buff in there. It now has 6 times as much health as it did in the first game. Its also the tankiest enemy in the game, even tankier than a phase of the final boss
9:11 I still find it funny how like 70% of streamers and VTubers that are on their first time playing a pikmin game with Pikmin 4 get their asses kicked by the Snagret. They Oatchi rush at the body, and then lose like 7 pikmin per peck. If only they remembered you could actually throw them at the head.
It's funny that the Puffstool is such an easy fight in Pikmin 1, because in the Wii version it's *so* annoying. The only way to not lose a bunch of Pikmin to the crushing glitch is to basically have the minimum Pikmin needed to trip it swarm it, and then immediately call them back and only throw Pikmin on top of the enemy. *Even* then I've still lost a couple just from when they get down from his corpse.
I am surprised Raging Long Legs didn't make the list, it's the last boss of one of the last and hardest caves in the game, it has stupid massive amount of HP, Huge Legs to crush a lot of Pikmin, and can enter a berserk state after being attacked where it's far more likely to attack your Pikmin. The problem is that it's very slow and you can always attack it's central sphere, so it's kind of easy to chip down it's health quickly, making it kind of underwhelming to fight so late in the game.
true the body of Raging Long Legs is easy to hit due to it's size and the creature moves slowly because of likely it's feet being really heavy, but when it get's mad and stomp's around fast it is quite scary if you remain too close
Another late game pikmin 2 enemy I find to be strangely balanced (but not necessarily underpowered) is the Antenna Beetle. It makes Pikmin basically invincible while they're follwoing it so it ends up being more of a nuisance than anything, which is a bit strange since it only appears thrice in a whole game in very late game caves at that. I'd expect this thing to be Spotty Bulbear in terms of difficulty.
Pearly clamclamp got severely nerfed. what made it threatening was the fact it had no limit to the pikmin it could kill and can still kill even after death. Pikmin 4 changed it so that it can actually die which means the mechanic can be completely ignored. Why methodically time your throws and avoid the bites when all you need to do is Oatchi charge and kill it before it can do anything? Its a stationary enemy that cant fight back so its just a free kill. You have to intentionally avoid attacking it to lose any pikmin to it.
honestly i like that some enemies are surprisingly weak like the puffstool and hairy bulborb, to me it can make the world feel more real like these are real creatures and not intentionally placed video game enemies. definitely a balancing act though, i do still want a challenge and for difficulty to gradually ramp across the game. also, i feel like a lot of enemies are easy to handle when you know what they do but are challenging on the first encounter, which is sometimes an underrated factor. i think it's nice because it makes the game challenging on first playthrough and rewards repeat runs by allowing faster/more efficient completion due to increased knowledge and skill
This might be a VERY controversial opinion, but I feel as though the Waterwraith is a little underpowered in Pikmin 4. Not only is it slower than it was in 2, but its vulnerability to Purple Pikmin is even greater in this game too. At the very least they do have a decent amount of health, and are still a slight threat without purples.
Between the Engulfed Castle's predesigned layout, having all your Pikmin on Oatchi, and the fact that the Waterwraith no longer chases you at all times... yeah, it's not only not that hard to never see it spawn, but also very easy to outmaneuver it even if it does. It honestly didn't deserve to get slammed by all the nerfs it got.
@@denpadolt9242 As I understand it, P4 Waterwraith will target groups of pikmin instead of the player, so it will go out of its way to hit pikmin carrying things or idle groups, so it's more punishing in that respect because you can't lure it around with Captains.
Not to mention his AI is WORSE than it was 19 years ago. It gets stuck much more, is slow, turn weirdly, rolls into walls and THEN remembers he has to turn, and so on.
there is no complete official consensus on bosses in pikmin 1 (or else the smoky progg wouldn't be a boss by that metric), the puffstool is considered one because it's unique in addition to dropping a ship part
Honestly a lot of potentially dangerous enemies in Pikmin 4 fold to Oatchi. Mat-At-Legs? Oatchi outruns it. Burrowing Snagret? Just Charge It. Both Cannon Beetles also fold to an Oatchi charge.
It's funny to me going back and replaying the Pikmin game how easy the Emperor Bulblax & Beady Long Legs are to fight. I remember playing Pikmin 2 when I was much younger and struggling a lot to defeat them and losing tons of Pikmin to them both. Similar thing to the Empress Bulblax, if you know how to fight it, it's very easy, but if you don't know what you're doing it is very possible to lose your entire squad (watched a friend of mine do this when he played Pikmin 2 for the first time)
i think this is the main thing that a lot of people fail to realize about pikmin. it is a children's game that is generally not being played by people hardened by challenge runs or years of experience. if you gave a child pikmin 4, they will probably still struggle with a good portion of it despite how hard everything gets mogged by oatchi. everyone here 100% found pikmin way harder as a child than they do now, plenty of people found pikmin 1 and 2 too difficult to finish as a kid, and most teen/adult casuals who don't have every cell of their brain dedicated to dandori will also find pikmin difficult. pikmin 3 is just sad, though. it's unfortunate because it's otherwise my favorite game in terms of aesthetics, but hell even 10 years ago i found it not that difficult to get through and even 100%. granted, i also played it obsessively.
I'm still kinda confused on why the firey bulblax has bulblax in its name, this guy is a normal enemy yet he gets to sit in the grub-dog boss dinner table?
