Love the mental image of a bright-eyed, baby-faced recruit showing up on the battlefield. Then one of his mates gets shot beside him. Instantly the recruit turns into this grim-faced, grizzled veteran that is already smoking.

Eh i mean irl most volksgrenadiers were veterans to begin with as volksgrenadier units weren't all to often like what he explained in the video (did happen though no doubts about it). Most of the units were formed from the ''leftovers'' after battle along the lines of '' 4 survivors of squad A merge with squad B'' so they're up to strength again . wich also led to them t having ,for example, a disproportionate ammount of At-rocketlaunchers

I've been using Volks Grenadiers recently in my lists, I think the only thing you could be doing wrong with them is only having one squad. Back them up with a regular squad with an lmg providing fire support and you've got a really nice shock squad to get up close with.

I looked at the Volksgrenadiers and used them for my list after that. Was my first or second game. In that game they killed my Officer (Due to FUBAR). Then lost two guys.... i rolled 5+ twice so they turned veteran. Then they killed my opponent Officer and a unit of NKVD (who all have they cap like officers do) And now they are nicknamed "The Cap Cappers" and probably has a hatred for officers :p
I left W40k after 9th came... used to play guard. Still is collecting the new krieg models but isn't playing anymore. Went over to bolt action who instantly proved alot more tactical and less "X squads shoots Y squad and since Z weapon is stupidly powerful no one ever survives" Grew tired of the fact that squads just never survived anything anymore. Get shot by a squad? Prepare to remove 90% of it.. if not all. And that was for all armies. Not just guard (there was some outliers who was stupidly hard to kill tho)

12:32 Thank you so much for this. I run a team of Volkgrenadiers last game... first game, they upgraded to regular.
2x Volks Offense, 2x Regular Mid, 1x Veteran - Dig it!

I run Volks every now and then, but it is all about that first casualties and dice roll if you fail that then yes they can quickly be over whelmed and brushed aside. But if you do roll that 5 or 6 followed by another 5 or 6 and bam you just made a cheaper SS unit in all but the fanatics rule. I usually take them 8+ men with 4 Stg's, 2 Panzerfaust a MG-42 and the rest either rifles or MP-40's if there is enough points, and so have them as a very risky proposition to assault if you are wanting to go hand to hand. But I do like them as a 3rd and even 4th infantry squad for my builds. And use them as a sort of screening force for my medium mortar, PAK-38, and Panzerwerfer 42 if I decide to roll it out and so got to go through my Volks before you can get into my rear line assets.
Oh the Vet Grenadiers, late war SS, late war Fallschirmjager, and Volks can be armed with nothing but Stg's if you so choose so 10 total if you take 10 men full strength squads.

Not here for bolt action but as a guard player, how do the bolt action infantry size up scale wise next to IG infantry? I'm a kitbasher so yeah, curious.

Depends on the kit, I think the Brits and Americans have the chunkiest infantry that would transfer over to 40k Well. The IJA and the metal models are a bit smaller

Question: - When a sniper fires at a 'Bunker' what minuses should he receive? Please let me know your thoughts on what should be realistic. Thanks for any input.

Some Historical additions to what you said about the Volksgrenadiers: they got the best equipment because they were not part of the Wehrmacht, but part of the Waffen-***. And at that point in the war (mid 1944 onward) the *** had more influence than the regular Wehrmacht ensuring they would get the best Euipment. Interesting as well is that a lot of soliders werent actually germasn, but recruited out of the occupied Territories. Nearly all of these units were deployed at the western front to slow the allied advance, and they were most of the Infantry deployed in the Battle of the Bulge

Why are you censoring SS? Also Volksgrenadiers division are not SS formations they are regular Wehrmacht Heer units created as a result of the loss of the Army Group Centre and the 5th Panzer Army in 1944-45 to the Soviets and Western Allies respectively. You might be thinking of the Volkssturm which was created as a latch ditch people's milita and was never very successful. The latter was under the direct command of the Nazi Party and often commanded by SS officers.

    • @jacksonstewart2970

You are thinking of Volksturm. Volksgrenadier formations were Heer formations.

@@jacksonstewart2970 no they were not, they were formed on the 20.7.1944 as part of the Ersatzheer which was directly commanded by the ****-Führungshauptamt aka Himmler

@@TeutonicKnight92 "after the heavy losses in the Summer of 1944 in France and the Eastern Front and the Promotion of Himmler to the Supreme Commander of the Ersatzheer so called "Volksgrenadier-Divisonen" were created. Those Formations were subordinate to the Reichsführer **** and so Partially Removed from the control of the Wehrmacht-Command Staff. This was a Reaction to the involvement of the military in the atempted Coup on the 20. july 1944. The Volksgrenadier-Divisionen were de facto under the authority of the **Führungshauptamt, which also had command over the Waffen**."
Iam not talking about the Volkssturm.

@@dandru3269 being placed under the operational or strategic control of the SS Main Leadership Office and being members of the SS are different things. The Volks-Grenadier units were never formally or informally inducted into the ranks of the SS and remained Wehrmacht-Heer units with Heer uniforms, Heer ranks and commanded by Heer officers . For example US marine units subordinated to the army for an operation or campaign are not considered army units, they remain marines.
Even your own source only states that they were partially removed from the control of OKH/OKW and placed de-facto under the control of the SS Main Leadership Office. It’s important though perhaps important technical distinction to note that the fact it was de facto and not de jure command.
