Absolute perfection as usual, the top section with the dentil moulding was a typical piece of Gid ingenuity. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience with us amateur woodworkers.
You're welcome, I'm sure there are other ways of doing things but i can only go on what comes to mind from my experience, I'm glad to be of help & I'm glad you like it, thanks 👍
Such a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, amazing ! Pity you don't have an apprentice you'd be a brilliant teacher, top class work you should be proud! !!!!!☺
Terrific work Gid, love your attention to detail. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise, really inspiring. Please keep the vids coming, I know i'm not the only one that could watch them all day long.
another great piece, executed with attention to detail. They look very smart, you wont get anything like that from ikea! the only thing that spoils it is the fire surround. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant job Gid.. another great start to a Sunday morning😀 especially liked ‘massaging with a hammer...’. Used to call it the persuader, but going forward it will be forever the massager 😉
Thanks Simon 👍 I did metal work & tech drawing at school, i wan't things to be perfect but I've also got a lazy side & spent the majority of the 90s smoking something other than tobacco so i think one balances out the other, I've seen people on site who are meticulous beyond acceptable n get f'all done n even then their work is not good enough, they didn't last long. Quick to a good enough standard is key, ( i take too long now it's for myself 😂 )
Another good end to a series. Looks really good. Now wsiting for next series, 01:10 notification sounded on my phone, watched immediately, other half wasnt happy, said to her" now your awake could i have a cuppa while i watch gid??" Reply started with an F and ended in FF. lol. Keep up the content mate. 👍👍
🤣🤣🤣 🤦♂️Can imagine, I don't swear but yeah i bet she did, headphones on i guess, the noise of routers etc. can travel even when i reduce the volume on those bits so she must have the patience of a saint.
Love the painted finish you got on these. Thanks for sharing your work. I agree with the use of beech and there's something special about some nicely cut hardwood like beech and I like it's tough feel and fine grain appearance. Just quality material for the time put in. Some people want a lot of dosh to make these completely out of MDF.
Thanks yeah the finish is nice, it's hard to explain or show on vid as you say a lot of it is in the feel of it, 👍 n yeah these Mdf units might look perfect day one but a yr down the rd n they'll be crap, my customers normally appreciate when i say this n are prepared to pay that little extra n wait for me to be free n build it.
Lovely job - as others have already said cornice looks great. Customer can't not be really happy with that. Yep those narrow crown staples hold well - like the 90 swivel you got on the airline for the air stapler
Thanks 👍 They seem happy n I've been paid 😁 yeah these ones might only be 20mm but try getting em out ain't fun, these swivels for the airline are a bit crap, i think i got them from Toolstation, Silverline rubbish, I've 3-4 n they all leak but have a couple from a different firm which are fine, prob is no name on them & i can't remember where i got them 😂
@@Gidjoiner yep they really hold well. Thanks on the airline swivels for looking- will give the toolstatiin one a miss and try some flexy tails (called something like that ) the thick airline gets a pain in some places on the back of the nailer with the connector sticking out. All the best and glad hot paid - the most important bit lol
Outstanding craftsmanship Sir, you are the balls! Were you taught how to spray on your apprenticeship? It's nearly a trade in itself, i've done a little bit of it. That was a proper joinery job, solid beech, meaty countertops, inset frame and panel doors. Not even a hint of IKEA shite anywhere, feckin marvellous, 👍 😁🔨 🇮🇪
Thanks 👍 I've sprayed primer for yrs & when i did my apprenticeship, almost everything got a coat of shellac/button polish to seal it with a gravity gun so i had some experience but about 10yrs ago i got sick of seeing people calling themselves decorators blathering my work with paint so i started offering to spray it, Yeah getting a good finish was a steep learning curve from primer n shellac 👍
Great series that. Thank you. I'm starting to plan something similar for one of our alcoves but have limited tools available (no table saw). Might see if I can get them pre-cut either online or B&Q perhaps. Thanks again for the vids.
Thanks David 👍, Yeah difficult without tools, getting them pre-cut is awkward if you need more or they're not cut right due to your measurements or their cutting, A cheap tracksaw might be useful to you? just put a good blade in it,
I do with pine because of the knots but the Beech is pretty much knot-free. so i skipped that step n neglected to take the pine beading into account, it looked fairly clear of knots, Also this PU paint is very good at sealing knots from bleeding through, the suppliers said i shouldn't need a sealer first with the PU but i tested it anyway a long time ago, might do it again with some knotty pine n film it,
Thanks 👍 I use one, when i showed the fret saw on the floor i think mine was in shot there, It's hard to judge how much torque & just how generally the screw is doing as it goes in, if i want a bit of grunt I'll use the impact but get a better feel with a reg driver,
Thanks 👍 Sometimes it's not ideal & filming is secondary to my work, I could waffle on for hrs about this stuff but finding the right words in an acceptable length sentence isn't always easy 😂 Cleaning my gun, is that a euphemism,? it's like a carry on film. 🤣 It's in one of the earlier vids but next time I'll try inc some of the cleaning again 😉
Thanks 👍 hard to say that, each job is different, It's like a commissioned piece, it's done when it's done but I have to get it done within an acceptable time & charge enough, Simpler alcove units a wk to build n if i can spray everything in the one job lot a wk to spray is the starting point, whether that's 10 or 14 days ??
Thanks Johan 👍 I've had a few over the yrs but i like this type with the screw adjustment that can be fine tuned with one hand, yeah it's Staedtler compass, i put a point on n i can't find it online, i got this one from a local arts shop. the only prob with these are that the thread can get in the way touching the wall sometimes, i had some nice thick scribers a while ago but they fell to bits & the adjustment was a pain, I might throw some money at these one day when i have spare, just hope they're not flimsy www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008OSIUY8/?coliid=I3HTKEQ54N2Y31&colid=3UBWC9NW89BTU&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
