Can we talk about these brilliant dynamics? "How did he touch my heart? How did this feeling start? This glow that feels so warm inside... This sudden summer storm inside." The diminuendo through, "This glow that feels so warm inside," to the crescendo of, "This sudden summer storm inside." Beautiful dynamics paired with such stunning lyricism to describe falling in love. Really brilliant writing on the Sherman Brothers part, and equally brilliant on Ms. Howes' part.
This is undoubtedly one of the Sherman Brothers best songs! It conjures up so many emotions in me. I am not ashamed to say I get a bit misty-eyed listening to it. Brava Sally Ann Howes!!!
I know. I do, too. But Dick Van Dyke is the farthest thing from a "Lovely, Lonely Man." He's the guy who trips over the ottoman in the living room he shares with Mary Tyler Moore!
This lovely lonely man I've only known a day I look at him, and cannot look away Oh what a love Oh what a lovely lonely man I've met so many men So easy to forget I thought I'd grown immune to them And yet He's such a love He's such a lovely lonely man How did he touch my heart How did this feeling start This glow that feels so warm inside This sudden summer storm inside My life now has a plan To someday make him see That I need him as much as he needs me Oh what a love Oh what a lovely lonely man Oh how I love this one and only man
What a beautiful voice! It's a shame that this beautiful song wasn't in the stage version. However, has anyone noticed that in the film's narrative Caractacus is telling the story and is therefore telling the children that Truly is singing a song about him? If I was her and he was telling his children that I'd be so embarrassed! He's very modest isn't he(!) But seriously it is a beautiful song, Sally Ann Howe sings it to perfection
When I was little and first saw this movie with my family I thought this song was kind of boring. Now I love it! there are even times these days when I find myself a wondering why didn't I like this song so much when I was a child.
Her voice is so beautiful and strong ❤️ It overflows with power and beauty! And the music is so beautiful and romantic….It’s filled beautiful swooping, strong, romantic and lovely notes…
I read somewhere that the studio wanted Julie Andrews to play the part of Truly. Julie Andrews turned down the role. I guess she did not want people to think "she was tied to Dick Van Dyke." They selected someone very similar to Julie Andrews.
@aminsadeghpour1549 Sally Ann Howes was Julie Andrew's understudy for her My Fair Lady stage role as Eliza Dolittle. So yup, the studio did pick someone similar to Julie Andrews. The late Ms Howes made this role her own. Now I cannot think anyone else can be Truly Scrumptious. RIP 😢🙏
For the most part, I enjoyed the Broadway stage version of this. Except they cut this song. I remember feeling sorry for the actress playing Truly (the lovely Erin Dilly).
Beautiful song, but I've always felt this song, along with the reprisal of Hushabye Mountain and the scene where they sing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang during the pirate ship scene, could've been cut from the film cause they do drag the story on a bit I feel... I dunno just my opinion, too many songs I feel.

Perfectly expressed.
I always loved looking at the yard she was walking through and would be like "I'd like a yard like that" =)
My mother based our garden from this scene and I tell ya what I give her a 10/10 because it’s absolutely amazing even has a swing seat in the tree lol
Pinewood Studios backlot
(this beautiful song finishes)
(gentle fade to black)
(jump cut to two incompetent spies trying to blow up a bridge)
Pffffttt who says chitty chitty bang bang isn't a classic
The entirety of my high school. They really are a bunch of ruffians!
"Ready? FIRE!!!" BOOM!!!...they both are like -_- LOL!!!
Lmao
I always thought those two spies were very incompetent. They were not too bright.
this song deserves SO much more recognition than it gets it’s so beautiful

This lovely lonely man
I've only known a day
I look at him, and cannot look away
Oh what a love
Oh what a lovely lonely man
I've met so many men
So easy to forget
I thought I'd grown immune to them
And yet
He's such a love
He's such a lovely lonely man
How did he touch my heart
How did this feeling start
This glow that feels so warm inside
This sudden summer storm inside
My life now has a plan
To someday make him see
That I need him as much as he needs me
Oh what a love
Oh what a lovely lonely man
Oh how I love this one and only man
To be this in love with someone is the best feeling in the world.
Gorgeous singing... Wonderful technique, great dynamics, everything was don’t brilliantly here

Probably the best film of its genre ever made...
Simon Horwell Better than Wizard of Oz?
My favorite musical is My Fair Lady, but CCCBB is in the top 10.
"how did this feeling start?"
you almost ran over his kids and then you argued with him
iamsky 😂
She did say sorry
oh give the poor girl a break she started to fall in love with him
“Vicious, interfering, confounded woman!”
A movie which i teared the most!:,)

I relate to Truly so well in this. I feel ya girl :D

She sounds a bit like Julie Andrews when she sings
Julie Andrews was supposed to play Truly, but she turned it down
Robert Tennyson Really? That's a shame, she would've been perfect for it
@@roberttennyson2665 I wonder why Julie Andrews turned it down.
Miranda Schiess
She thoght the role of Truly would be way too similar to Marry Poppins.
Sally Anne Howes she's pretty Truly scrumptious
I call this song the what will it take for this guy to take a hint song
For the most part, I enjoyed the Broadway stage version of this. Except they cut this song. I remember feeling sorry for the actress playing Truly (the lovely Erin Dilly).
Nice!
Rip sally Ann howes
Beautiful song, but so forgettable in the context of this movie. Very different tone
