The final stretch of this game exists solely to draw as much money as possible from wallet of the poor, worn out arcade gamer who just wants to see the end screen.
Awesome run, the part you mentioned about shooting a door before rootmars it's not rng, the aliens in that part are not infinite, if you stay crouched in the first spot your attacks land with the door(so that wave start spawning), AND just face the opposite side, you can just knife the aliens till they die, they even can give you machine guns to fight rootmars easier; about mission 4 boss, that shit it's completely random, you just gotta pray it doesn't spam it's yellow attack, but if you are frame perfect you could try the glitch to kill It easier
Yeah, Metal Slug 2 is right up there in difficulty. The first 4 missions are cakewalk, mission 5 throws a ridiculous amount of enemies at you, and mission 6 is long and never ending. The wavy bridge section with nothing other than a pistol and grenades you're supposed to save is just flat out ridiculous, and I find the melee mechanics in 2 to be too clunky and slow to properly deal with the alien's projectiles, especially at Level 8 speed. The boss is an unfair RNG fest, requiring you to spam grenades against the UFOs the boss spawns. It's incredibly frustrating. Metal Slug 5 is about half the length of Metal Slug 3, but it's also incredibly frustrating because it has even MORE RNG fests than 2 and 3, despite being half the length. Bosses 2-5 are ALL entirely RNG fests. You could have all the right "strategy" and still be dicked over by impossible projectile combos, or if the boss just DECIDES to not let you hit it. There's a very real risk of getting a Time Over in Mission 5's boss if you play too safe, and don't get a 2H before the fight, which oh would you look at that, is ALSO RNG. Probably the most consistent game to clear in 1 life would be MS4... and that's the nicest thing I can say about it. I haven't managed to clear 7 or XX in one life yet, because those are hateful, boring games, so I can't speak for them.
Yeah, in MS4 there's not a whole lot of sections I consider random besides the stupid truck portion of Mission 2 (I haven't practiced the atrocious final boss all that much though, so maybe I'm wrong). XX is all about soldier selection, the game is terribly unbalanced. I have done XX Hard runs using the more broken characters (Leona, Eri, Fio) and it does become somewhat easy but if you go with Tarma or Clark then it's just bullshit lol
Metal Slug 6 isn't a bad game. I just don't enjoy it as much as I did 5, or 1-3. Metal Slug 6 has a lot of new ideas and concepts, which I welcome. But it doesn't have the same artistic flair of the original titles. The entire screen has a dark filter applied to it to give it a grim look, the new Slugs are obtuse and difficult to use, and there are almost zero death animations for the characters aside from the standard one. The gameplay to me feels a lot more like Megaman than Metal Slug: you have to memorise set enemy patterns and save different ammo types for certain enemies. Once you memorise the patterns however, then it becomes almost a brain dead experience: it doesn't keep you on your toes like the bosses of the original games. It's less of a pick-up-and-play kind of arcade game, and more of something you spend time to learn and do. It's not very beginner friendly, in short, and hence why I'd hesitate to play 6 with someone new to the series. In contrast, I could be playing Metal Slug X and 3 with pros and beginners alike and still have a blast screaming and laughing. That's something I feel 5 has better retained from the original games, and the soundtrack of that game is amazing.
@@XSquareStickIt I don't know what you mean by lacking artistic flair as nothing really feels lacking in terms of the backgrounds as it was done on better hardware than the neogeo, although I can see the argument for it looking a bit too dark, with how the music to me it does feel contradictory in how they wanted us to see the game, as lighthearted and goofy as x and 3? Grittier? (exception being the final mission) as for the slugs, how are they difficult to use? They function essentially the same as most past slugs, you move forward and the exact same aiming for the vulcan cannon is used. (I do see the rootmars and drill slug being a bit slow though to be fair, I dont see it nowhere near as big an issue as with say, the donky slug.) As for different death animations, while true, I see it as one of the lesser points against the game over overall boss and level design, ect. An issue, sure but a small one. Also how's it like megaman? In megaman you have bosses that outright break to weapons, no slugs, weapons are way easily more refilled, a health bar, and many other factors. You can say the same in regards to memorizing patterns for jupiter king or any other boss or enemy in the older titles, or pretty much any game in existence. You know how enemies/bosses work, and thus you have an easier time. And also, not beginner friendly? The game has an easy mode with your default weapon being a heavy machine gun (the game not letting you play the final mission is the stinker of it though) as for the ost, while not as good as 5 or 3 I do see being better than x, 1 and especially 7 or 4. Its got this major vibe of uplifting tracks that are all-round whimsical, and it knows when to change the tone.
@@XSquareStickIt The switch to non sprite backgrounds is always the thing that will bother me the the most about Metal Slug starting from 6. Looks nowhere near as good and is where your artistic flair statement really hits home for me.
Hey What if you try to beat as much stages as possible as a mummy? That is a very hard challenge I'm very sad I could not provide the metal slug runners an awesome fangame, the programmer just lost interest

Love your commentaries on the description. Sol Dae Rokker really is an RNG fest and totally no perfect way to win against!

Which Metal Slug would you say is the second hardest to beat under these conditions? 2? 5?
