I'm a fellow electrian turned plc programmer turned home automation programmer. Nice to find you and your videos. Keep them coming. I thought I gave up on appdeamon a few years ago, but this makes me want to give it another go...👍

Thank you so much for the video!!! This was a HUGE help for a Home Automation newbie like me. It also helped me gain a better understanding of using the Visual Studio Code alongside an Add-on and being able to change the code and re-start the add-on without using the terminal. I am also able to check my logs quicker by using the Visual Studio Code editor vs the terminal. This home automation is fun!! Frustrating sometimes, but fun! People like yourself take a lot of the guesswork out for people like me and I truly appreciate it!!!

Great video! Have you played around with NodeRed? If so, what are your thoughts on how it stacks up against AppDaemon? I see that you install home automation systems professionally, and I too want to do so. It'd be awesome to hear your professional opinion on which tools I should focus on for enterprise grade HA automation.

What do you actually click to run the file e.g. after you fix the colon? I can hear typing but I can't see what was done. When I run the tail command, I get no log output showing.
I can see the log output in the Log tab of the AppDaemon page under Supervisor but not getting it in the terminal interestingly.

hi Jimmy, great vedio. Do you use Appdaemon dashboard? If so, do you know if you able to code in Appdaemon to make a dashboard reload at a certain time e.g 3am in every morning? Cheers

If you wanted the dashboard to be reloaded or refreshed in the browser, then I don't think you can. If you mean change the dash board to another dash board as in a night and day dash board you could. But to refresh the browser you would need to use a browser like Fully Kiosk, that way you can control the browser itself and make it refresh reload the page.

Jimmy, what file editor are you using? it looks so much cleaner than what I am using and makes it so much easier to read. I particularly like the colored sections you have to the left of the script.

I know I've looked at it for a few years and thought I'll try that out soon. I got motivation because I wanted to get my Air Con and DALI lighting controller working with HA and this seems like the easiest way.

@@SparkyJames Hi Jimmy, fellow electrician from the UK here. I have also been looking at incorporating Dali lighting using appdaemon into HA but found a different lighting solution that has worked well for me, I'm using DMX art-net within HA to control regular LED dimmable fittings throughout the property, as far as I'm aware this is a lower cost and simpler solution than using dali and your not restricted in terms of choice of fittings, you can also use dmx to control extractor fans or anything else that can be controlled using a triac dimming circuit / RGBW / switched.
Would be happy to share the setup with you if it interests you. I have subscribed and am looking forward to watching your future videos!

Okay okay I will install it 😊. Seems easier when handling complexity than a huge chunk of yaml automation

    Hi Jimmy,
that is really a great introduction to AppDaemon!
Just one thing, there is a high pitching noise throughout the whole video. Its really disturbing and a petty to have it in a otherwise great video.
    Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, sorry about that, what you can hear is what it sounds like to be in the Australia outback camping and my garage too😟 and it's actually crickets they are everywhere specially in summer, I'm trying to fininsh making a studio at my place to block out the sound, it's very annoying.

    • @AndreasScheucher

@@SparkyJames Damn! These are loud crickets! I wouldn't have identified as them, as they sound a bit tinny in the recording.
I really don't mind them in real live. I really like them. But in an audio recording, they are really annoying. Really understand you graving for a studio! All the best building one!

It's an extra addon which needs installing - "Studio Code Server"
