Hello Jim! Your new Rider Ericsson is a very elaborate version - more complex than the PM Research engine which is bigger, but less complex! Enjoy your new toy! Cheers, Detlef
Amazing engine! PMR has one that’s alcohol fired. Still pumps water and stuff. I like the gas version since there would be less of a smell from gas burning than alcohol (metho)
Cool video, nice looking engine. Just got one for Christmas and it runs well. Unfortunately, the pump part is a bust. I've run it maybe 10 times, priming each time, with the pump up, then down, then in between. Of those 10 times it pumped, dribs/drabs only, on two of the runs. It never pumped even close to what yours does. I've sent a message to the seller, dtjsteam, as to what to try next.
G'day Wayne, that's a shame mate. What I do for mine is to take the priming cap off, put some water in there and keep turning the wheel while putting a finger over the top whilst adding more water and then putting the priming cap back on and its always pumped well for me.....hope that's of some help - Cheers Jim
@@SteamEngines-Jim Thanks for the advice. I've decided to step away from the water-pumping issue for a few days. I'm thinking of using a hypodermic with a siicone tube that just fits to force the priming water thru. Right now, I'm having a devil of a time getting it fired up. It seems that when I open the butane valve a bit while holding the flame to the burner, or as close as that tiny doorway allows, and a fog of flame erupts. This might happen five or more times before the burner will properly light. It surprised me because it did not do this the first few times I ran it. The burner seems a bit flukey and the valve is really touchy. I just tried my small bernzomatic torch as the flame is pointed and goes where I direct it and it only took two tries to get a proper flame. I see you also used a torch. Is that the trick? Personally, I'd have preferred an alcohol burner because I have more control. Good old-fashioned old-school....All that said, at the special price it is worth it.
@@waynewheaton6244 G'day Wayne....my valve is SUPER touchy as well. I mean REALLY touchy! I also replaced the black gas silicone? tube. I leave the door open on mine mostly when its lit. Fingers crossed you get it sorted mate..Enjoying all your Weedens!...Happy New Year to you! Cheers Jim
@@SteamEngines-Jim I agree - sooooper touchy. I'll be using my torch in the future to light it up. I will try to score one of the lighters that have a jet flame as that would be simpler. I think they shot themselves in the foot by not using an alcohol burner....I already have one designed (Tesla style - in my head). The butane burner is, at best, problematic. as is the pump. All that said, it is a marvel to look at and watch run, and at $200 (plus a hefty express shipping fee) a good deal.
@@waynewheaton6244 I might add the RO2 version as well. An spirit burner would work well I reckon.....I bought one of these lighters Wayne and am really happy with it - www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08Y5M5V3X?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
