your skills outmatch your tools by a long shot. you just did machining with garage sale Bargen bin (no offence you do have some very nice ones but you made due) tools. and destroyed it not by a little but a long shot. such an amazing piece of craftsmanship not for the budge but for what it is.
Love this can’t wait to buy a lathe when I have the money this is the first thing I’m going to make. Been wanting to engrave for about 2 years now but the machines are so expensive 👍🏼
Thanks pal , well currently without lathe it's extremely time consuming process to make and I am too going to wait for lathe to mass produced these some day and in meanwhile I am going to fine tune this for much better result.
I am in the process of making one of theses graver hand tools. I was making the piston and trying to figure out the location of the perpendicular air hole in it. A quick glimpse of your digital calipers shows the measurement of 10.45 MM and it appears you mark the location measured from the narrow tip of the piston. In later pictures it definitely looks like your air hole is closer to the thick end of the piston indicating the measurement was from the tip. When I duplicated that on mine there was no way the air hole could go past the internal stopper when the graver holder was inserted without having it adjusted nearly all the way out. I decided to switch the measurement from the other end of the thinner part of the piston where it meets the thick end making my air hole 10.45 MM from the base and closer to the tip instead. That seemed to work and now the graver operates with tip even fully inserted. I was curious if you had made the hole different in your working graver or was I just seeing it wrong. By the way, your tutorial is great, luckily I have a small lathe though lol. Great job!
So the the piston goes up and down based on pressure at first, then as the compressed air rushed out the 6 exhaust holes creates a low pressure which draws the piston back down? I’m struggling understanding the continuous motion. The piston ends and the air inlet measurement must be extremely crucial. I get the concept but very tough to picture.
Thank you, mate there is a Russian video who mentioned the drawing in his video, at present i didn't have that link but you need to search on UA-cam about graver and in suggestion videos you will find his channel.
Hello. I borned Portuguese, and they have this old saying: - "A guitar need to be in the hands of those who know how to play it properly". Well, I do similar jobs trying to repair the daily destruction our pupils do everyday, with everything at the public school I work.😢😢 And here I see one more time, how much I still need to learn!! Uau!! 😮😮❤❤
@@ambroscustom As I said before - great job! Could you tell me what compressor you are using? What pressure is needed for the graver to work? I wonder if your graver could have been powered by a compressor from the refrigerator? Because the compressor from the refrigerator is very quiet .... I will be grateful if you give me a hint. Cheers :)
Thanks again brother, so for this perticular graver i am using simple 30l shop air compressor. It's extremely loud. Usually the pressure needs around 2-3 bar, but due to my precision i need to use 4 bar to make it work effectively. I heard about the refrigerator compressor but never had a chance to work on that. If you are willing to make this then definitely give it a try. It's my pleasure to help you out.
So, I see you’ve started this project when you were a kid! Stainless steel machine by filling only? You’re a brave man!!!! I’m afraid to cut it on my small lathe!!!! How long it took you to finish this project? Good bless you for sharing such a WORK of art, and emphasis on WORK !!! Happy holidays!!!
Thank you sir for the words, the total time it took around 12 days working 10-12 hr a day. It's not fixed but roughly that was the timing. Definitely a time consuming process since after every minute i have to stop it and measure it. But the rattling sound makes that time worthy enough of every hour. Thanks for giving your time:)
@@ambroscustom wow! I imagine it was something in those lines as it is such a great piece! Most amazing is your kindness to reply to us! Thank you so much for all you do for us!
Dear this one has normal air compressor. There is no modification required. Search same title on UA-cam and you will find another design of graver with modified compressor. For detail information about modifications of compressor, search shaun hugh. He explained every step required for the modification. Or you can search the same title over instructables and you will find design files and dimensions. If need any help please let me know.
although I have doubts about the end result using non-precision tools such as without a lathe. the process is of course the same and watching the presentation is enjoyable because of this difference.
Hahahaha.....not surprised by your words brother, the tool is working fine but definitely not perfect as it needs to be and there is nothing astonishing in making a graver by drill press and drill machine because in the end all you need is a straight hole in the shaft. Thanks for giving your time to see the video:)
Yes the piston hole changes the direction. The first one you are talking about is a different design in which compressor needs to modify so that it can do suction and compression.
@@ambroscustom Ok, thanks. Does the 5.97 mm part of the piston slide into by the 6 mm hole in the spacer. And does the larger part of the piston strike the spacer to provide the forward Hammer thrust. If not, where does the piston strike. Sorry for all the questions.
@@Hopkinsg1 yes 5.97mm part of piston slide into the spacer hole. The piston didn't strike the spacer infact the air coming from the compressor creates a cushion underneath the piston and spacer which lift it again for the another strike. The piston actually stikes with the graver holder. If the piston stikes to the spacer it will going to jam. So make sure to have pretty tight tolerance. I failed 3 times due to piston since I didn't have lathe and due to that accuracy affected and don't be sorry brother, your questions are welcome.

Do you have to retrofit your compressor to push and pull with this engraver or does the piston change direction due to hole placement?
