Same same same!! Yes yes yes!! I have had the same struggle and felt terrible that my several attempts at prayer journaling just hasn't worked out. I decided to give myself grace and ask the LORD to lead me to what works because underneath it all I know he wants me to pray. Thank you for sharing this Faith!!
Thank you for your transparency and for always keeping it real! I struggle, too. You could never fail us, we are all in this together, I’m with you and behind you 100%! ❤️
I used to have a really big war binder. I also found it complicated my world. I have since moved to a travelers notebook where I simplified my 'war binder' by having 1 section for prayers, 1 for scriptures,1 for gratitudes and affirmations, 1 as a common place Christian book, and 1 for my "fervent prayers" which I wrote after reading Fervent a few times. So much easier and I am more likely to use it. The best part is when 1 section fills up I can just grab another journal notebook to throw in the travelers cover.
When I had a large Franklin Planner where I tried to keep everything, job, two teenagers, groceries, Calendar, I used one of those foldout TV table/trays beside my desk so it was always available because enevibly something would pop in my head that need to go on a list. Then when I was finished I folded up the table and put it in the closet. As I worked through my morning routines of study, planning, & prayers my binder remained open to the left of me while my desk was free for which ever project I was working on. I would remove the sheets from my binder and write on my desk, as the section became full I put them in a different storage binder.
I need small and portable. The best tip you gave me was to put my life in it. That has made my prayer journal like a calendar and documents my life. This puts Christ in the middle of my everyday. I like getting journals from Ross Dress for Less about $3. For a leather looking journal.
I write a letter to God just about every day in a journal. I write to him like i'm going to be mailing it to him and he's my penpal. I start off with what i'm grateful for from him, which usually leads to things i'm really screwing up which then flows to what and who i'm praying for. Sometimes I write for 45 min or an hour and it's 4-5 pages long. Sometimes its quick and I add a few verses. For example, this morning for some reason I woke up felt very "surface" love for him and I wrote to him about that, and asking him to help my heart and show my deeper love. I included many bible verses. It took 20 min. I'm a busy mom as well, and some days i can only chat to him while rocking my daughter to sleep because i didn't get up early enough to write to him. My quiet time is usually broken up throughout the day. I very rarely ever have enough time to write to him AND read a chapter or more in my bible at the same time. I usually end up doing my bible reading and study plan at lunch, or after kid is in bed, dishes are done and lunches are packed. I love reading and studying at night in bed because I usually will have dreams about the events in the bible. One thing I love that you do Is keep a list of prayer requests. I don't do that. I pray for the same people in the same way just about every time I write to or talk to Jesus. If i have a random prayer request or feel like i need to pray for someone during the day, I say a little prayer right then and there and move on, but it would be more beneficial to keep a list for sure so i can remember to pray more than once or twice for them. Most days I feel like my letters to God aren't enough, like i'm not doing enough, but I'm a fulltime working momma, and he always meets me where I am!
I feel the same way about my prayers and quiet time! Often times I let the lies that I’m not doing enough in my prayers get to me. And like you I often have to break up my quiet time into small segments! Praise the Lord that He breaks through all those barriers!
Faith, I don't think you could ever fail us. Sometimes we just need to make a change. I had to change my prayer journal methods a couple months ago too. At first I was writing a lot of my prayers done. While I don't regret that, it started to become legalistic for me. So now I just write when I feel like writing. If I don't I'll pray in my head or out loud. I also had to learn that I couldn't compare my prayer journal/life, Bible journaling, etc. to others. We have to do what works for each of us. God won't love us less if my line isn't straight in the Bible or whatever. That haircut story is so funny because I went through something similar. I wanted shoulder-length hair in 4th grade. Apparently my view and the stylist's view of shoulder-length were different. So it was shorter than I wanted. But I didn't learn my lesson and in 9th or 10th grade I did something similar and did not like it. To this day I get nervous with my hair being cut. I get nervous with curling irons too. My forehead got burnt by accident whe I was a kid...on picture day. Thank goodness you cant tell but it scared me for life LOL. Thank you for another grrat video! Are you feeling well?
I appreciate the honesty. I'm struggling with praying. And I hate this about myself. But it helps to hear every once in a while that I'm not the only one. Thank you!
You hit the prayer-book-nail on the head! I created a prayer binder but haven't used it after the first week. It holds all the printouts re prayers for husbands, children, etc... but I don't know that I like writing my prayers on loose-leaf paper; I think I much prefer them to be in a journal/comp book--I feel it's more private, self-contained. But the beauty of a binder system is the ability to add pages where needed. Now, I will take out from my binder whichever printout I'm praying for on that day, and thanks to you, I can use tip-ins/flaps/whatever they're called and sticky notes to add more writing space to any page in my prayer journal when necessary. Love your channel and your tips
I use a smaller 3 ring binger. It has a leather look to it & has a nice soft feeling to it. It's 9 1/2 inches length & 8 1/2 width. I found it at Staples. So far it has been great. It's not too big & it's not too small. Now I'm going through it & simplifying some areas. I want my prayer journal to lift me up, to inspire & encourage me as I go into prayer for others.❤🙏❤🙌❤🕊❤🇺🇸❤
Thank you for the video! I had one week where I was spotty with my prayer journal/bible study journal because it wasn't working for me and that made me not even want to look at the thing. But now I'm going to cut back on what I was expecting of myself daily, and let God work in me and let that be more than enough for me! Harder than it sounds. 😂
Thank you for your transparency as well. But my prayer journey sounds like yours. I had a good prayer journal going life got busy so I jumped on the band wagon with the WAR Binder . It did not work at all. So I tried all the different beautiful prayer junk journals as well they didn't work either. So after watching your blessed and wonderful videos. I had an extra journal Bible around and am using that as my prayer journal. Adding tabs and prayers and pockets, and this working beautiful. Thank you for such wonderful videos!!!
I've tried to use binders for a myriad of projects and journaling systems and I just can't. Especially when it comes to any form of journaling or note taking. Nothing dampens my romance with journaling than a huge plastic thing with huge wire rings. It just kills the mood. So now I have this eclectic collection of different journals for different things and I'm totally fine with that. It appeals to my need for creativity through random-ness. Thanks for this video! I feel totally validated LOL.
My prayer binder was workng ok, but I looked at it and thought 'If I reorganized this it would make more sense.' I did, and now it does. Now it has a better flow to it.
Something I forgot. I use a folder that used to be a phone directory. I just really liked it and obviously didn't need it as a phone directory. It had pockets on the inside on the left. But that didn't suit my requirements. I wanted the pockets at the back. So I flipped it! My Prayer Journal is an upside-down telephone directory!!
I'm a bit messy with prayer journaling. I grab one of those smaller notebooks/journals/anything diary sized and have multiple ones going at once. Whatever cute stationery stuff I have lying around.
You should look into happy planner!! It’s fully customizable and usually you can get them 40% off at hobby lobby, they have faith ones too!!! It’s so much fun! And they have all different sizes! Mini classic and big :)
I second the suggestion of Happy Planners! I have tried to change out to the “Everything in one HUGE binder”, the bullet journal, all kinds of other styles, struggled along and always come back to HP. I love the flexibility of changing/adding virtually anything you want at any time. I still use a cheap composition book to do my daily scripture writing and “brain dumps” since I’d go through a LOT of HP paper (cost prohibitive!). But it’s the perfect hybrid for me since they tuck right inside a classic size HP. Best wishes for finding what works for you.
Hobby lobby has them on sale this week,so you could get a planner super cheap also look into a happy notes for extra pages super customizable and even look into some expander rings in case you’d want it to be extra thick 🥰
I use a Happy Planner too, for just about everything in my life, except Scripture writing (that demands separate notebooks because it takes so many pages) and prayers (I have a huge Coffee and Bible Time Prayer Journal). The disc system is great because I can customize like crazy and it will fold onto itself. Plus, I can remove all the pages to write, the discs don't get in my way. I do buy extra discs and covers to store the pages I've already used.
You are so welcome! I am so glad this was uplifting! I was honestly a little worried that it would seem like I was complaining too much about the binder! ;) Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a sweet comment!
