My problem with the "caliber debate" is the basic presumption is stopping the fight. OK first pass that makes sense. Do you want to leave someone to tell a falsified sob story? Someone who is alive and crippled or call it a different outcome? For other outcomes, more energy, larger rounds are more likely to produce that outcome. that is a light weight 40 or a 5.7. A 9 for the same outcome requires 2 based on the FBI shots to stop and the data I've seen from the ER gunshot survival rate study from Baltimore says it simply doesn't have the same rate of other outcomes.
I practice at extended ranges with firearms and my archery equipment. I practice shooting at 40 yards all the way up to 3 yards. Need to be confident you could make the shot if even if you don’t have to make the shot.
Being able to hit a "head size" target at 25 yards is a confident builder, but in this litigious world we live in, I wouldn't recommend taking a 25 yard "head shot". If you must, keep it center mass.
Note...The actual hand gun (size, recoil, barrel length, etc) and it's accuracy make huge difference at 25yrds. Yeah it can be. Should be just enough friction retention on an IWB concealment holster to keep an unloaded gun turned upside down in the holster in there with a gentle shake.
This is why I don't recommend the head shot beyond 15 yds. It CAN be done, but as you say we only get one chance. And you're right, it's a difficult shot, even at a stationary target. An adversary is unlikely to be stationary. Yes, it's worth practicing, but I don't recommend it in the real world. A prosecutor would be all over you should you miss and cause harm to others.
I appreciate this sir--will work on 25 yds more often. 3/5 here is pretty good--60%. I have some work to do on my trigger control. Keep up the strong work.

Unless you are a skilled shooter or sniper taking a head shot at 25 yards is dangerous an ill advised unless perp is isolated or lined up and you have no choice and the perp is rarely stationary like most of our practice drills, most of my self defense is 15 yards in with most of my shots in 7 to 12 yard range .
I'm not saying this to start a debate but I zero my Pistol and PCC at 25 yards. Point of aim will be with an rds on center of a one inch square and point of impact one inch low of square at 2 yards. That will get you pretty close at 25 yards. try it out. if you need adjusting it will be elevation.
Perhaps a laser sight like the Crimson Trace would help? I also like the idea of a red dot. Both of these aids help tremendously in making long distance hits.
If you shoot someone through the chin you could call that a good shot. You just paralyzed the assailant unless you shoot the chin from the side. The bullet would go through the spinal column which could either kill or paralyze the assistant.
This is part of why 10mm is the best mm. I'm not going to be able to plant a good headshot that fast at that range with my irons. My eyes are too shit for that. What I can do is hit a torso sized target at the range easily with speed. The ammo I'd be using would end the fight.
