I'm so glad you reacted to this after my suggestion! Shoshana is such a master at story telling, just the eyes alone tell an entire story. Like this performance makes me emotional every time! You fully nailed the placement of where the song is in the play, totally the 11 o'clock number of the show. Arguably one of my favourite songs from a production, just because of the emotion. Even as a man, I find the lyrics so relatable, with the whole "who did I used to be" and wanting to rewrite endings. I think the song is very much a portrayal of yes life sometimes sucks, but there's also the good parts of yourself! I also agree the ending being soft is much better, in Jessie Muller's version, she stays fairly head voice and it really does fit the ending better. You'll find the further the show went on, they really started to belt that last "mine" and I don't know why lol. I do think a large part of that is how they play the role on broadway though. Like the original Jessie Mueller portrayal was very much a low energy, done with the world vibe, where as other performances show the character as being more hardened to the world and having this more aggressive attitude in songs. I think both work in the full scale of the role, and show two different reactions to the situation that both make sense.
Hey @itsclaybee! Thanks for the awesome suggestion to watch Shoshana and react! Totally get what you're saying about Shoshana's storytelling - it hits right in the feels. And the differences between Jessie Mueller's version and others? So interesting how the same song can give off different vibes depending on the performer. Love hearing from theater lovers like you who really get the world of musicals. Again thank you for the suggestion and I’m so excited to go see the Proshot in December! You know I’ll be talking about it! 🎭
I connected with this song soo much a few years ago. You just find yourself in a place and you’re like “what decisions did I make to end up here? This isn’t what I wanted”
@shaniecesingleton3704 it's incredible how a song can be like a mirror, reflecting our past choices and the twists in our journey. It really resonates with many of us. I can’t wait for the pro-shot to come out in theaters!
I have heard others not love the ending also, but the way I see it is she goes into that power note that feels less authentic and more practiced because she is reaching back in time for one last moment, then if you listen close to the vibrato as she holds it, it kind of spirals of control a bit like she's trying to hold on to that past version of herself, but no matter how hard she tries it will always slip away and become uncontrolled like her life.
omg your pokemon analogy...ahah so good. great commentary. also, I think literally any clip I've ever seen of Shoshana Bean has been so moving. I also used to listen to her sing a song from Piece the musical (idk if it ever ended up making it to some sort of production?) back when I was in like, early highschool or middle school. Let me see if I can find it. I think one was called Magic...but this one is called Home & the first lines randomly get stuck in my head a couple times every year: ua-cam.com/video/QVr96tv7ykc/v-deo.html apparently there are clips of her singing it live, too!! haven't seen those, but I love this song still (all these years later)
I'm excited about this idea. I'm planning to do a sort of Vlogmas-think less traditional holiday stuff, more reaction vids. I'm thinking of saving this juicy performance for December. It's going to be a fun twist to the festive season! Especially since the pro-shot is coming!
@@CareOffBookyes please respond to the video linked above! Her performance is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I was there for her final performance and there was not a dry eye in the house!
Super pumped to check it out - the theater darlings always spot the good stuff! I'll give it a watch, and who knows, it might just be perfect for an early December feature. I will have tissues prepared too! And hey, if you stumble upon any other performance for me to check out, especially with a holiday twist, send it my way. 😄

Personally I think Shoshana needs a hug after that outpouring of emotions
Absolutely!!!

The super nerd analogy is Everything!!! Love that Charzard idea!!!

I just did another reaction of Shoshana on stage. I had to grab the tissues! Also, the last note didn’t bother me that time.

@jaimehoward5757 I just shot my reaction and I am not ok! Coming December 1st!
@@CareOffBookI can't wait to see your reaction! Someone tag me!
Too much/ too often interrupting by far which ruined the continuity of this amazing performance.
The link for the performance is in the description if you don’t want commentary.
But the whole point is to get her take on the performance. You have to listen to Sho a Lot before you come to this kind of video.
