I got about one out of every ten. Who knew sulphur could be such a beautiful shade of lemon yellow. I’ve only ever saw the crumbly, milky yellow variation. Very cool.

3:23 that is actually Star Sapphire, which is Corundum. and it has a double star, usually they only have 6 Rays due to the crystal structure and the way the titanium oxide grows within.

So I found an alexandrite but what do I do with it to make it shiny it's all gray and it is cuz u went to an gem store to see what it is and the said alexandrite?
I did very well, got the majority correct, had trouble with the ones that were cut into gemstone shape already...theres so many that look similar and most like that are available in wide range of colors. And there were a handful of stones that I have never heard of or seen so it wasn't just a test but educational as well. could you do more like this one please, I really enjoyed the challenge. I have 102 crystals in my collection but my new challenge is I'm trying to get every jasper type known to man, or at least get all available to me.
These are fun arent they. Amazing to learn such a vast majority exists in this world of ours. Im so glad you enjoyed this and ive made a few more guessing ones. My next vid i plan on showing how vast the opal is. ✨🌹

I couldn't tell you where, but I did see Moldavite in the video. Only reason I remember it is because I sat here a wrote them all down. I'm to ashamed to tell how many I had never even seen before.
@@WhimsyMeadows Many can be confused with others that look so close in appearance. Labradorite is one of my all time fav.'s. but even it can be confused with Black opal, and a few others. At least for me they look alike. I think in time I'll do better at details.

Most specimens of fluorite will display a blue-purple fluorescence under short-wave and long-wave ultraviolet illumination. Rarely specimens of fluorite will glow white, cream or another color. A small percentage of fluorite specimens will not fluoresce under ultraviolet light.

Whimsy Meadows no not sodium chloride. It looks more like pudding stone but with brighter colors. It looks like if someone melted a bunch of crayons and make a rock out of it lol

When viewed from the direction that produces its most attractive color, most cordierite is a distinct blue to violet in color. It is one of the most strongly pleochroic minerals. Specimens that produce a strong violet color can be rotated to produce light violet or dark yellow hues.
18:15 I'm sure that this Sapphire is man-made. Color is very uniform, they don't grow like this (also no natural inclusions are visible) I have synthetics from China that are broken in this exact way.
I think you might be right after I axamined the photo again. But really who knows for sure? I am happy you watched and I am continually learning. I plan on uploading vids weekly so please watch for those. I could always use some expert advice :)

I guessed 142 correctly. About 20 I have never heard of. I study gemology, so we don't learn much about stones that are not used for gemstones. On a few, about 8, it seems like you used "trade names" rather that their scientific names but I realize you were trying to help us by being alphabetical. This is fun and a great challenge, and I will go through it several times until I get closer to 200. I was surprised you did not have pezziottaite...it is one of my favorites because it has stunning inclusions. Thank you for all your work putting this together. If only some very kind minerologist or veteran rock hunter would show a split screen of th mineral in its raw state then its cut or polished state. It would make identification so so so much easier & allow us to pick up stones that we wouldn't normally do because some fabulous gems look absolutely crap in their raw state. Not that im a prospect hunter, i collect b coz i love what i see or how mineral feels in my hand but it would be th icing on th cake to find a valuable stone by knowing WHAT it looks like in its raw state. So many people must have disregarded stones as nothing special when it could have been a diamond or emerald or sapphire. Iv looked for yrs for a book guide to show me both raw & cut stones a good comprehensive variety but not found one ( there is one fab one but its £75)

Lack of water moisture and fine-grained inpurities may color them gray, brown, yellow or red.
