    What we really need GPD to actually develop is a nice and solid Oculink + Thunderbolt Dock in the usual GPD aesthetic. Basically just strip out the 7600m XT from the G1 unit so we can put our own gpus in there (plus optional shroud / cover for the looks)
    Have a couple different SKUs, a barebones SKU thats simply an Oculink + tb dock but you plug your own PSU for the budget hack monster setups and another maybe with Gan power built in. Possibly release tiers over time 250w / 350w etc based on feedback and backers.
    Any 1 of those I've mention sounds far more appealing to me over the current G1 simply because I don't wanna be stuck with an (admittedly small and sleek) eGPU that cannot be repurposed later. It may be fine now as is but iGPU performance will outclass mid tier gpus in a few years! Just look at all those Blackmagic 580 pro eGPUs on second hand sites. I love the GPD push on oculink but this reeks of a Wii U to me
    P.S Keep it up Phawx, awesome attention to detail. Loving your content so far!

    I'd love to see these with different GPU's and prices... This is leagues away from Asus's proprietary eGPU's. What is awesome is that you don't need some big bulky power brick. It's so compact and not limited by which devices it can be used with Oculink or Thunderbolt, awesome!

    Yeah and we all know what a great value the 4090 is! *facepalm. External GPUs for handhelds are a scam. You pay more to get the mobile version of a desktop GPU that performs much worse yet it has the same name. Stop covering them so they will stop making them and taking advantage of people who don't know any better.

There is no M at the end of the desktop cards. Go and look at the name well. Also, they indicate the tgp on the gpus. You don’t expect a 120W TGP gpu to perform the same as a 500W or 650W TGP egpu right? 😂😂😂

    RE: Doom Testing. The slowdown is likely due to the texture pool size being set to ultra nightmare. This is not recommended for 8GB cards. Card ran out of VRAM. I had this same issue with my 3070ti last year when setting to ultra nightmare at 1080p. If you keep everything else at ultra nightmare and drop the texture pool size to high, you would get full usage out of the GPU. That's all that issue was I believe. I'm cautiously optimistic about longevity =_= They want me to send the whole device back and I'm hoping I can just get a replacement mobo I can swap it with and send the old one back. The Phawx, I want your opinion; whats the best value for compact 7840u gaming, the Aya Neo Air 1S or the GPD Win 4 7840u? Seriously I'm on the fence and it's alot of money (to me, especially because my country hits me with 25% tax on import)

      I have the same question, but I think the win 4 is will end up being the best option. I love OLED screens but the 1S will probably have a very limited battery and the lack of occulink now seems too relevant if you plan on getting an egpu

      The thing is, when you buy these devices you will try to tinker around a lot, so having a built in keyboard and optical touch pad are huge pluses in navigating windows while lying in bed/sitting on the couch.

      @lucascarracedo7421 Рік тому

      It's probably still worth it as any other thunderbolt 4 based eGPU with the similar performance won't really be much cheaper. In fact eGPU enclosures don't really make much sense for weaker GPUs since you end up paying more for the enclosure itself than the GPU.
      However, in that scenario you can upgrade the card down the like, this is a closed product.

      Should be similar-ish, but you'll need to mod your WM2's M.2 slot into an occulink port, Phawx should have a vid on that modification.

      It's like $660 or so without the oculink cable. Amazon sells a cable for like ~$15 or you can get the bundle from GPD for ~$45 Retail price is $800

    Why is it saying PCIe link is 16GT/s
    I thought Oculink is PCIe 4.0x4 for 63GT/s
    Thunderbolt 4/USB4 is PCIe 3.0x4 for 32GT/s
    eGPU Docks should really be using desktop GPUs which are upgradeable.

    • @user-xp5ux3bs8v
      @user-xp5ux3bs8v Рік тому

      Oculink version 1 is PCIe 3.0x4
      USB4 is not the same that Thuncerbolt 4.
      USB4 does not say much and you need to know the specific implementation. One option might be a thunderbolt 3.0 with 16 Gbit/s for pcie lines. For Thunderbolt 4.0 32 Gbit/s for pcie link is requiered.
      I miss that Phawx does not detail the configuration for the thunderbolt connection in this case.

      @@user-xp5ux3bs8v GPD give the details in their marketing material for the G1 on their website. They are using Oculink version 2 PCIe 4.0x4 (4 lanes instead of the allowed). The USB4 is also full bandwidth as advertised 40GT/s using 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0. Which is why I'm curious about the reading of 16GT/s

    it's a really cool product, but too expensive for just the performance of the 7600m. you basically can build an egpu with 4070 or 6800xt for that money, and it will be much more powerful in games. +don't really understand a market for COMPACT egpu, like buy a laptop with discrete GPU lol. so value proposition isn't great from any standpoint of view

    • @julfy_god
      @julfy_god Рік тому

      @@AugustineKusiDuah-bk4fr what is the convenience? this egpu AND gpd win max 2 is literally bigger and heavier, then normal gaming laptop with similar specs, like asus's TUF Gaming A16 with 7940hs and 7600s dGPU, and this laptop is literally even cheaper. not to mention it has a bigger screen, dgpu works from battery power lol and convenience to have everything packaged inside one laptop without a ton of other cables and things. why would you even need small egpu? like that thing will stay at home to give me more power in games at larger resolutions, why do I need it to be small? any reason?

    • @julfy_god
      @julfy_god Рік тому

      @@AugustineKusiDuah-bk4fr man good quality usb dock costs like 50 bucks. most gaming laptops have an output for 3 screens. building your own egpu isn't that hard, you just need to buy a high-quality adapter from pcie to thunderbolt 4 or oculink, these don't cost a ton of money. and power supply, of course, another 50-70 bucks lol. And 4070 is like what, twice more powerful than 7600m? yep, it will be bigger, but why does somebody even need that thing to be small?
      so $600 for 4070, and around $120-150 for power supply and adapter, still cheaper, then retail price of g1 lol. so even if I bought win max 2, it's just better value for me to build my own egpu, more powerful for the same money, or much cheaper for the same performance(7600 costs $250, so less than $400 for my own egpu, which Is like $250 or $400 cheaper, than g1, comparing to early bird or retail pricing respectively)
