  • Scientific literacy can be seen as providing students with scientific knowledge that has already been historically acquired by society. Many people consider that the focus should not be on scientific literacy, but on scientific literacy, which consists of helping the student to be able to apply scientific knowledge.
We can consider that true scientific literacy occurs when the student recognizes the limits of science and is able to apply the scientific method to produce scientific knowledge.
We can choose to define scientific literacy in a less technical and more humanistic sense, so that it is not focused on producing experts, but rather empowered citizens to carry out cultural production. For example, students who bring strategies for caring for the environment and society. This way we can do Science for the right reasons and not for weapons purposes or to meet the market's desires.
In this sense, anyone can be empowered to do science today, regardless of dependence on formal learning environments.
