You are a part of a dying breed. I recently purchased my 7 year old son a 1978 Peterbilt C52 cabover. We purchased the truck for my boyfriend who I bought a 1982 Kenworth W900a for. The big cam Cummins and 13 speed Trans will go into the Kenworth and the rest is my sons to build on. Keeping the dream alive for both my boys. Cannot wait to hear another story, I could listen to them for hours. Most of the truckers I have known like you have since passed but it's nice to see you here reminding me of them. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down my friend.

Dozers, scrapers, blades… I remember a few ole timers took me under their wing I learned at a early age. Man if you were willing to learn they would teach you. I miss them ole days. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day sir

Thank you sir ! I believe in working anything no matter the age or shape it's in everything is and can be rebuilt I'm not scared to run this old truck it's 67 years old and if it blowed up tomorrow I would bring it back to life and continue to heavy haul with it I came up in the heavy haul and equipment operations and we all ways used a tandem axles truck to pull heavy loads this old truck has no front brakes no abs just what it came with from the factory. Minis the engine is a 335 cummins with around 600 hp all the men I learnt my trade from are all past away I'm just continuing the way I taught.

I started working on a hog farm while in the sixth grade, and I'm sure glad the farmer hired me to shovel the hog manure. I could hardly wait for school to be over so I could climb on the bus and ride to the farm. Wonderful memories getting to work at that age. I love your 351 and I'm so glad you have shared it on UA-cam.

They want to start at the top and refuse to do anything extra but come to you wanting more money ! I miss the old generation everyone I worked with 20 year ago is passed away.

Good story man, I've got a similar story when I was 12 I used to drive the work truck and dump trailer, now I'm 32 yr old and I own a roofing company and drive truck and trailer everyday. One time I was driving on a hunt trip and there was a road block... I pulled over and switched seats with my uncle... we ended up getting charged with loaded weapons in the car.. great story!

Cool story mate, I think alot of us did that sort thing when we were younger in that day. I'm 42 years old now and grew up on a sheep and cropping farm. I used to drive/operate all the machinery at a very early age too. Got strictly taught by my old man and he drummed the safety into us kids hard, was a great way to learn. Our local country town cop was very good, he knew we drove all the gear and knew we drove on the road when needed, I remember passing him one day in our j series Bedford I would have been about 8 or 9 years old at that time and at that age I remember looking through the steering wheel between the spokes cause I wasn't tall enough to look over it. Anyhow we passed each other on the main road I was driving around to the other side of the farm I gave him a wave and he waved back at me as we passed. He new it was me driving and he was fine with it and new we did it all the time. That was in a day when we could get away with it. You wouldn't get away with it now days though. I also put in a new drive way for a neighbor using our old hough 30 pay loader at 14 years old by my self and was also shifting Boulder heaps around other farms too for farmers with it and tip trucks much younger, those were my first paid jobs although my Dad got the money he used to send me to do the work. I just loved doing it and same as you, every day after school I automatically went out and helped on the farm till Dad finished for the day, it was what we were expected to do and we just did it anyhow without hesitation and enjoyed it. It was normal. I look forward to your other childhood stories.👍 those were just a couple mine and just like you 100% true.

Sounds like me as a kid except for the cops . I remember we where building a trailer park I was 10 running dozer . Owner trying to kick us off because of me on dozer . But dad had already checked with insurance man and I was covered . That was 85 or 86 . Also never forget guy coming out of porta John . After weekend when 🐝 had moved in . Didn't make it far before his pants down tripped him up .

Worst part was going back to school . After had been running a job to listen to teachers . In shop class in 6th grade showing them how to run grade and use a eye level . It usually took the class 4 class periods to square a 20 by 20 . In teams of 3 my team was done in five minutes . And got the next 3 days to watch everyone else.

Not only did they need the work there family didt eat with out it !now everyone's on medication and food stamps they don't need the government ruined this country so people would be dependent on them !! No body has to work now just sit on the ass and wait on my taxes money to be handed to them ! This world is lost and cannot be fixed! Sad truth.
