It's tug of war with extra steps but knowing that is so crucial, and coming from being an off tank in 1 it's very frustrating some do not. If I switch it up and play DPS or supp, I find so many of the matches, tanks stand at the choke and lose, even after getting multiple picks. Not letting the enemy tank simply hold w against you and push your shit into spawn is key to winning this game, very consistently.
The last "biggest mistake" I would add, is tagging onto your last pont: Tell your team if you have a problem DURING the match, not AFTER the match. Staying silent about the enemy genji farming you the whole game and getting frustrated that nobody helps you, is something I see so many players do. It only takes one little note in the voice chat (or text chat, but vc is better), going "Hey guys I'm having a really rough time vs the enemy Genji can one of you help look out for him?". Even if nobody responds, at least you have now made people aware that the Genji is a problem that is directly influencing their team's performance, and in general the best thing a team can collectively do, is figure out which enemy player is their main carry potential, and then shut down that player as much as possible. But it starts with you. If YOU don't say anything about the struggles you're facing, then don't expect your team to telepathically understand YOUR needs.
This comment deserves more attention. I’ve come across so many players who wait until the end of the match to start complaining when in doubt it’s a team game. If you can’t communicate how the fuck are we supposed to win ?
and as a DPS player im typically not staring at our zen in the backline peeling for him but if I hear this comm, I can help make his life a little easier and fall off of one of my kills to come save his life instead of jumping further into their backline

as a pretty good Phara player, I must say, that the only hitscan I afraid of is a very good Widowmaker. With others you can easily trade to your advantage. And with pocket Mercy, you are basically 2-men-army. It's not fair to blame your only hitscan for not dealing with Phara in MLG style.
I would like to add: commit to team decisions even if you don't agree with them. If you tank goes in, go in with him and support him. Maybe he knows something you don't. Or maybe it's just a bad decision that your team could overcome through superior mechanical play. Whatever it is, if your team makes a call, you gotta commit to it. If you don't, your team won't trust you, and team play falls apart.
not true basically what you do is you try to get a good ult in then swap, but in cases where you cant get a good ult in you are wasting time, or you tried 3 times like in the video and have no opportunities then ofc swap. so a good swap is better than a bad ult. or if you have something like deadeye, or weaker ults who cares, just build another ult for a different char.

Loving your videos after getting back into OW with the launch of OW2! I stopped playing about a year and a half ago and am thoroughly enjoying the way the new 1-tank team comp change makes matches feel.
when it comes to the "raging at your teammates" point i cannot agree more, so many people go into solo queue and end up complaining about their teammates not being good enough or whatever, not enough heal, the tank not being tank enough, the dps not doing enough, whatever it is they will always complain and ruin the game for others ... (in any flipping FPS out there) you don't want shity teammates? you want people to comm etc ??? #1 in this has an actual term, "sunk cost fallacy" It's actually a common issue for most people and should be avoided at all costs. If you know your getting more value by doing something else than don't keep doing what you are doing, that's basically the definition of insanity.
I’m genuinely upset I never played OW1. I’m having so much fun on this game, what made it even better for me was I strictly play against PC players cause my boy plays on PC but realized there’s no aim assist and I thought that was just in general for the game so I got really good without aim assist first so it’s a cake walk playing against console players, not all obviously, always a bigger fish but having that little disadvantage starting out definitely helped me understand roles and how to play as team, and what I should be doing as Torbjorn (strictly only use him) so if you guys got any problem with aim like I originally did being new, I suggest grinding it out with a PC buddy for awhile, and listen to this video.
For me at the moment I have a lot of problems. On Tank I main Junker Queen, I know there are options significantly better than her with the current meta but she’s just a ton of fun to play I can’t resist. My issue as a tank as I’ve noticed is that I don’t advance when I should be advancing, a tank as far as I can tell with their health bar is meant to take the majority of the damage. Therefore my priority is the front lines of a fight. My issue here lies with how at the start of the match I do that but slowly as the game progresses I stop that and then before you know it I’m advancing with no team to back me up. On the DPS side of things, especially in bronze levels, my tank gets killed pretty easily because they’re making similar if not the same mistakes that I do so when the tank is dead I have no shield and am at that point forced into a contest with the enemy team to see who can die faster. 9 times out of 10 the enemy team wins. I don’t play support as much as I’m not very good at that level of multi-tasking.
People tell me to stay on a hero when I have my ult, but then we all die 5 times and I never see a good opportunity to use that ult. In those moments I can tell I'd be getting INSTANT value swapping to someone else, even more value than that ult would have provided.
My buddies be like "*my character* is useless against *their character*" and I'm like yea switch it up if hes giving you trouble. 4 mins later with 30 seconds left in the match they switch up but too little too late.
I'm having the same experience. A whole lot of complaining about a specific character without switching to counter. I think some of it is due to the point made in this video about wanting to use their ult first. But by that time the round is over. One character literally everyone I know is complaining about however, is Sombra. And I legitimately do not know what character we could switch to against her. Brigitte can't even stun her to prevent her from teleporting out of trouble every time anymore.
@@LethalShadow I find if you're just swinging around you got a decent chance of catching her enough to make her recall and brig isnt as helpless as say zen after hacked. Shes my go to when sombras in play if I'm support.
abusing the enemy team's weak link is absolutely necessary to climb. As for the example with the godlike tracer vs your feeding teammate, I often get into the situation where i try to help our mate but since i barely hit plat 4, people still more or less fight for themselves and therefore our mate literally pays no attention to where i am positioned and starts running into chokes or behind walls where i can no longer help them. I think many people in lower elo need some tips on how to actively adapt your own playstyle to make up for someone who isn't willing to cooperate. Especially DPS currently feels like every other game is only winnable if you get at least 3 solo kills per team fight.
i think a big problem with these videos is that it assumes your team will communicate and want to work together which isn't very true in the lower ranks. anything below diamond and even often in diamond you'll have teammates that don't com, dont join voice, or refuse to swap or don't want to listen.
100% this, at least in... whatever it is this unranked tier is I'm stuck trying to get 7 wins for. People keep trickle-feeding the enemy ult charge and it leads to cascading failure. Feeding is so bad for so many reasons but people always forget - getting hit/killed is giving them ult, and doing damage that doesn't kill a target is giving their healers ult by healing it. If you're alone and can't get back to regroup safely, suicide or wait quietly!!
What helped me tell my Teammates to punish mistakes for example If I see something unexplainable in Silver/Gold ana is playing isolated or something Ill call mistakes if they wanna punish them Ill go in with them if Not I do not risk doing something on my own that is dumb so playing number advantage my biggest issue is when they counter my main I have to swap and Im avarage on soldier so I dont get that much value should i focus more on diffrent roles I play 3 Chars mainly Gengu (Main) he is good punishing mistakes, Soldier he is my Phara counter and then Reaper Tracer what ever I feel is getting more Value. I saw me in that aww i have ult but dont get value thing ^^ What I dont like for the most part is Teammates who are obviusly throwing Plat (Example I let my ana know I have blade ready dash in the air Pray 4 the best and blade) usualy i got my nano and get my value but sometimes there are anas that wont do that and dont get tilted because you maybe get 2 kills with a single blade at its best isnt that great should I swap duo with a mate=? I duod and got to Masters in OW1 but want to get there on my own now it feels so bad tbh my friend is a gold player but he knows what to do so i boosetd him to high plat :P But is there more than letting him know in VC and look at my ana ???
From me as a person who started a lot of competitive games. You should start learn from playing safe and punishing enemy for they mistakes. And that's your basic for any game. That's your plan on game. And only when you master this part you can go and try do some difficult stuff. This is a lesson from SC2. 80% of your game you start with one strategy and then change it depending on the enemy.
I would say no besides certain character matchups the gameplay, mentality, and tips are the same for both. An example is like pharah is better on console because it’s harder to hit those precession shots on console

I normally am not one to blame my team but in bronze my teammates are god awful, ik I should be higher as in OW1 I was gold with a platinum peak, although I haven't played in a while so maybe I should be silver until I shake off my rust but I definitely don't deserve bronze.

Great tips! I have 100% delayed swaps from ult or ult charge. But way too many people just straight up refuse to swap. I am a veteran OW1 DPS but never played ranked seriously until last season, I finished at bronze 1. I mained Sojourn and am now maining Tracer. I have climbed back up to bronze 2 but would love a review. Here is a game that shows the good, the bad, and the ugly of my current Tracer playstyle. KD3S8G. Cheers love!
i just saw this comment but if you're in bronze right now, focus on getting your mechanics down, dont engage anything without at least one of your cooldowns (your dash or recall), pressure their supports and punish out of position players. but dont always be a flanking tracer she also has some use on the front line sometimes.
I tried telling my Widow to swap off after she had 2 elims and 800 damage dealt after she was getting outsniped by a Zen for 2 rounds and i got told to get out of my mom's basement and stop playing stupid heroes like Zarya and Rein that require no aim. Nice.
As usual: OW, LoL, and many more games have this issue where the player base is filled with ppl who only want to "pop off" or be "* diff". When they don't achieve that, either because it's not their day or they're simply being outplayed (or it's a skill issue, it happens), they automatically switch they're brain to "reject thought process and turbo feed" until it is done. But sadly, it ain't gonna do much is it?

I'd love it if you could make a video on Lucio. Been playing him a lot recently and I don't always know when to speed or heal in the moment (diamond to low masters)
If your team has advantage, speed them in to help them push. I hold my amp to switch heals when someone goes to critical in those pushes. In most situations, rule of thumb is if your team is above 70 ish %, speed to give them a better chance at dodging and peaking. Switch heals once the fight actually breaks out and save your amp for when your team is dived or the other team hard pushes. A lot of it is down to intuition, it will differ from team to team. Let them know when you amp speed if you do, get them to push in with you and switch head if you or them start to go under Your survival comes first. Check your health and heal yourself up if you need to. Can’t hear anyone if you’re down. Sorry that this was all over the place, just kind of wrote it as it came to mind. Hope it helps somewhat!
This is also my personal experience with it. My play style probably differs a lot from what yours does and therefore your usage of speed vs heal will be different. A lot of it is intuition and will come to you as you play. The most general rule I can give is if your team is pushing, speed them in and switch heals when they drop below half-ish, it again differs from situation to situation. You’ll get the hang of it!
Or you could calmly take space, peal for your team, bubble them etc and then have people so in their own world they say tank is shit, only use bubbles on yourself even though they just had two bubbles on them 2 seconds ago.... yes there will be bad teammates, but at least in overwatch 2 that seems to be 60% + of the time. near to, if not actually those that cannot get out of spawn. then again, even in good game i apparently have the chance to randomly be kicked and then "suspended for 15 mins". somehow i was still able to use game chat/all chat and ask wtf was going on, only to have people say they had no idea why i was kicked and try and restart. I currently have a ticket out about it, but this game is not working too hard to provide a reason to keep trying.
Sadly are comms below x rank are non existent. Most player refuse to go vc cuz most time it end up in a toxic behaviour. So people dont even joining in. Im was for long time on the same page. But now i would like to do different but well you end up in a silent vc.

A lot of people will start off with free coaching to get referrals or posting free coaching online so people can see your value. Being a high rank is an easy way to show value but it doesn't mean you'll be a good coach and it doesn't mean you need to be a high rank to provide high level coaching.

I wait for the gigantic 5 men kill, because of THAT FUCKING WEEKLY 20 team kills? cmon, make it less Tip 3 I had a game where we overrun the enemy team. One support dude started to blame his roadhog player for not tanking. I then wrote in chat "it's always the others fault" and something with "blaming". Because the hog player was chatting too, he thought I was writing to him. He didn't blame anyone and so I told him that I did not writing about him and he is not the one blaming anyone, I defended him. The more we stomped them, the hog suddenly started to blame his dps for being "bad dps" and I just wrote "now you do blame others too" and he was completely triggered or something idk
where is if you want to heal then show yourself instead of go full ham on enemy with half hp? i mean a lot of genji players are like this but if you think you cant take the fight then back off let me heal and go full ham again... maybe i cant heal you due to a lot of one shot potentials, or you gone too far then die and angry on the chat why am i not heal? 95% of matches I'm the only person in team chat, but once I encounter someday who actually uses vc I'll use this advice!

I’m very thankful that OW2 lets you keep 30% of your ult charge after switching heroes. It actually does help alleviate the first mistake a lot.
For me at the moment I have a lot of problems. On Tank I main Junker Queen, I know there are options significantly better than her with the current meta but she’s just a ton of fun to play I can’t resist. My issue as a tank as I’ve noticed is that I don’t advance when I should be advancing, a tank as far as I can tell with their health bar is meant to take the majority of the damage. Therefore my priority is the front lines of a fight. My issue here lies with how at the start of the match I do that but slowly as the game progresses I stop that and then before you know it I’m advancing with no team to back me up. On the DPS side of things, especially in bronze levels, my tank gets killed pretty easily because they’re making similar if not the same mistakes that I do so when the tank is dead I have no shield and am at that point forced into a contest with the enemy team to see who can die faster. 9 times out of 10 the enemy team wins. I don’t play support as much as I’m not very good at that level of multi-tasking.
Is it better to switch off of an ultimate or use it suboptimally, but straight away so as not to delay your switch?

Well I love to tell you in comp if the hero I'm playing isn't working I'll swap off regardless of ult charge
People tell me to stay on a hero when I have my ult, but then we all die 5 times and I never see a good opportunity to use that ult. In those moments I can tell I'd be getting INSTANT value swapping to someone else, even more value than that ult would have provided.
My buddies be like "*my character* is useless against *their character*" and I'm like yea switch it up if hes giving you trouble. 4 mins later with 30 seconds left in the match they switch up but too little too late.
I'm having the same experience. A whole lot of complaining about a specific character without switching to counter. I think some of it is due to the point made in this video about wanting to use their ult first. But by that time the round is over.
One character literally everyone I know is complaining about however, is Sombra. And I legitimately do not know what character we could switch to against her. Brigitte can't even stun her to prevent her from teleporting out of trouble every time anymore.
@@LethalShadow I find if you're just swinging around you got a decent chance of catching her enough to make her recall and brig isnt as helpless as say zen after hacked. Shes my go to when sombras in play if I'm support.

abusing the enemy team's weak link is absolutely necessary to climb. As for the example with the godlike tracer vs your feeding teammate, I often get into the situation where i try to help our mate but since i barely hit plat 4, people still more or less fight for themselves and therefore our mate literally pays no attention to where i am positioned and starts running into chokes or behind walls where i can no longer help them. I think many people in lower elo need some tips on how to actively adapt your own playstyle to make up for someone who isn't willing to cooperate. Especially DPS currently feels like every other game is only winnable if you get at least 3 solo kills per team fight.
i think a big problem with these videos is that it assumes your team will communicate and want to work together which isn't very true in the lower ranks. anything below diamond and even often in diamond you'll have teammates that don't com, dont join voice, or refuse to swap or don't want to listen.

The two biggest problems I see are people self-staggering and wasting ults after a fight is already lost or won.
100% this, at least in... whatever it is this unranked tier is I'm stuck trying to get 7 wins for. People keep trickle-feeding the enemy ult charge and it leads to cascading failure. Feeding is so bad for so many reasons but people always forget - getting hit/killed is giving them ult, and doing damage that doesn't kill a target is giving their healers ult by healing it. If you're alone and can't get back to regroup safely, suicide or wait quietly!!
What helped me tell my Teammates to punish mistakes for example If I see something unexplainable in Silver/Gold ana is playing isolated or something Ill call mistakes if they wanna punish them Ill go in with them if Not I do not risk doing something on my own that is dumb so playing number advantage my biggest issue is when they counter my main I have to swap and Im avarage on soldier so I dont get that much value should i focus more on diffrent roles I play 3 Chars mainly Gengu (Main) he is good punishing mistakes, Soldier he is my Phara counter and then Reaper Tracer what ever I feel is getting more Value.

What I dont like for the most part is Teammates who are obviusly throwing Plat (Example I let my ana know I have blade ready dash in the air Pray 4 the best and blade) usualy i got my nano and get my value but sometimes there are anas that wont do that and dont get tilted because you maybe get 2 kills with a single blade at its best isnt that great should I swap duo with a mate=?

From me as a person who started a lot of competitive games. You should start learn from playing safe and punishing enemy for they mistakes. And that's your basic for any game. That's your plan on game. And only when you master this part you can go and try do some difficult stuff. This is a lesson from SC2. 80% of your game you start with one strategy and then change it depending on the enemy.

I would say no besides certain character matchups the gameplay, mentality, and tips are the same for both. An example is like pharah is better on console because it’s harder to hit those precession shots on console

I normally am not one to blame my team but in bronze my teammates are god awful, ik I should be higher as in OW1 I was gold with a platinum peak, although I haven't played in a while so maybe I should be silver until I shake off my rust but I definitely don't deserve bronze.

Great tips! I have 100% delayed swaps from ult or ult charge. But way too many people just straight up refuse to swap. I am a veteran OW1 DPS but never played ranked seriously until last season, I finished at bronze 1. I mained Sojourn and am now maining Tracer. I have climbed back up to bronze 2 but would love a review. Here is a game that shows the good, the bad, and the ugly of my current Tracer playstyle. KD3S8G. Cheers love!
i just saw this comment but if you're in bronze right now, focus on getting your mechanics down, dont engage anything without at least one of your cooldowns (your dash or recall), pressure their supports and punish out of position players. but dont always be a flanking tracer she also has some use on the front line sometimes.

I tried telling my Widow to swap off after she had 2 elims and 800 damage dealt after she was getting outsniped by a Zen for 2 rounds and i got told to get out of my mom's basement and stop playing stupid heroes like Zarya and Rein that require no aim. Nice.
As usual: OW, LoL, and many more games have this issue where the player base is filled with ppl who only want to "pop off" or be "* diff". When they don't achieve that, either because it's not their day or they're simply being outplayed (or it's a skill issue, it happens), they automatically switch they're brain to "reject thought process and turbo feed" until it is done. But sadly, it ain't gonna do much is it?

I'd love it if you could make a video on Lucio. Been playing him a lot recently and I don't always know when to speed or heal in the moment (diamond to low masters)
If your team has advantage, speed them in to help them push. I hold my amp to switch heals when someone goes to critical in those pushes. In most situations, rule of thumb is if your team is above 70 ish %, speed to give them a better chance at dodging and peaking. Switch heals once the fight actually breaks out and save your amp for when your team is dived or the other team hard pushes. A lot of it is down to intuition, it will differ from team to team. Let them know when you amp speed if you do, get them to push in with you and switch head if you or them start to go under
Your survival comes first. Check your health and heal yourself up if you need to. Can’t hear anyone if you’re down.

This is also my personal experience with it. My play style probably differs a lot from what yours does and therefore your usage of speed vs heal will be different. A lot of it is intuition and will come to you as you play. The most general rule I can give is if your team is pushing, speed them in and switch heals when they drop below half-ish, it again differs from situation to situation. You’ll get the hang of it!
Or you could calmly take space, peal for your team, bubble them etc and then have people so in their own world they say tank is shit, only use bubbles on yourself even though they just had two bubbles on them 2 seconds ago.... yes there will be bad teammates, but at least in overwatch 2 that seems to be 60% + of the time. near to, if not actually those that cannot get out of spawn.
then again, even in good game i apparently have the chance to randomly be kicked and then "suspended for 15 mins". somehow i was still able to use game chat/all chat and ask wtf was going on, only to have people say they had no idea why i was kicked and try and restart.
I currently have a ticket out about it, but this game is not working too hard to provide a reason to keep trying.

you advertise as a coach and find people who want to be coached. Charge whatever you're worth. A lot of people will start off with free coaching to get referrals or posting free coaching online so people can see your value. Being a high rank is an easy way to show value but it doesn't mean you'll be a good coach and it doesn't mean you need to be a high rank to provide high level coaching.

I had a game where we overrun the enemy team. One support dude started to blame his roadhog player for not tanking. I then wrote in chat "it's always the others fault" and something with "blaming". Because the hog player was chatting too, he thought I was writing to him. He didn't blame anyone and so I told him that I did not writing about him and he is not the one blaming anyone, I defended him.
The more we stomped them, the hog suddenly started to blame his dps for being "bad dps" and I just wrote "now you do blame others too" and he was completely triggered or something idk
