I really enjoyed her character in the beginning of the season, this role of an ice cold, ruthless, sadistic, elitist headmistress was such an amazing choice for Sarah Paulson, she was so intimidating and one couldn't even sum up the power to look Miss Venable in the eye. It was disapointing what they've done with her toward the end, to know she was just some loser secretary, they really butchered the writing with that one.
I think theres a good thing about her having been a secretary, because she was so intimidating and unnecessarily mean. So you realize she doesn't have to be the leader of an outpost to be powerful, she even wore a joyful, innocent color and was still intimidating.

It was humiliating for her not to be in charge and not being taken seriously by her employers (they called her 'babe', they didn't inform her at frist about the cooperative etc.) And she was mean to those who were in a lower position which btw always happened to be other women.
