The 2005-2007 stretch was way too bad for me to agree. I was 10 years old when 06 came out. I already didn't like ShTH even as a kid, but I had high hopes for 06 cuz of the initial E3 trailers/demo. When I finally got to play it after it came out, I had never been so utterly disappointed in a game before in my life. I didn't really know how to express it back then, I must've wasted hours looking thru footage and rewatching trailers to see if the stuff they cut out or butchered from the trailers was secretly in there somehwere (obv not the case). At the time just talking about the game made me upset, I would get shat on by people on UA-cam and forums just for being a Sonic fan lol. BlackBusterCritic even "included" me in one of his videos (he used to have an entire video series dedicated to dunking on Sonic fans). So yeah, needless to say, between ShTH and 06 itself being some of the absolute worst pieces of shit I've ever played, the nonstop negative press for the series, getting legitimately made into a meme by popular UA-camrs, etc. it was a terrible time to be a young Sonic fan imo. There were good games in Riders and the Rush series, but everything else was either aight or an unmitigated fucking disaster. They even managed to fuck up a Sonic 1 port! Unleashed undid some of the damage to the series for me (I like the game, don't get me wrong) but it wasn't until 2010 with SATSR and Colors for me to feel any substansial amount of confidence in the series again lol
I did not find Generations unifying at all, I saw it going even further in the Colors direction with Just Sonic Mentality & knew it was going to split Sonic further. I agree the 4kids Era was better than the 2010s for the series. We were getting good handheld Sonic Games & Black Knight was great then out of nowhere the Meta Era happened & we got 3 bad games within a few weeks of eachother in 2010.
Fair enough but at least there were still good games in the late 00s since gens we’ve only had 1 good game mania and that was made for classic fans and I’m more of a modern fan
@@arenwalker3624 Honestly I'd rather have more Manias than Advances or Rushes. For the mainline/platformer titles, if I had to choose between a buncha terrible games with a few good ones (2000s for me), or a buncha okay games, 2 good ones, and a near-perfect game spinkled in (2010s for me), I'd choose the latter. Not to mention that I think the spinoffs in the 2010s were way better outside of Boom. The All Stars Racing games are some of the best in the whole kart racing genre. TSR included. Sonic Jump 2012 and Sonic Runners were fantastic, too.
Generations was the peak of being a Sonic fan. Never had the fanbase been so positive and united at that time. Even non Sonic fans and critics were finally giving Sonic the respect he deserved. 2011 felt like us Sonic fans were on top of the world lol.
I really enjoy your Tier List Videos. You can feel that there was put effort into these Videos. It's not just about putting things into a list, but also about you explaining and going in-depth about your feelings/perception, while also considering the objective side of view. That is what I really like about these videos, even if I don't 100% agree with everything. You did a great job with this one, Prem!
My personal subjective top 5 Sonic years would be: 1. 1998 Sonic Adventure was released and it was easily the best Sonic year for me. Sonic in 3D was insane! And the game was so huge with so many playable characters. 2. 1991 It's not just cause Sonic 1 was such a great game, but before we got the Megadrive console, I had only played very primitive videogames before. Stuff like Bubble Bobble etc. So playing Sonic was mindblowing to me. But I was a very small kid back then, so I wasn't as hyped as I was in 1998. 3. 1994 I actually got Sonic and Knuckles before I had played Sonic 3. In 1994 I got both games and Sonic 3 and Knuckles is still my favorite Sonic game of all times. 4. 2011 Sonic Generations is probably my second favorite Sonic game. What can I say, it's a combination of the best parts of earlier Sonic games and they even managed to improve some of the classic stages. I was super hyped about this game. 5. 1997 Actually Sonic Adventure wasn't the first time I played a 3D Sonic game. Sonic R was. (I'm not counting Sonic 3D or the special stages from 2D games. Sonic R actually felt like a 3D game and I played the game to death. Of course it was still just a racing game, so it didn't hold a candle to Sonic Adventure. But it was great nevertheless. I can't believe the game came out only one year before Sonic Adventure! For me the worst Sonic year was probably 2007. Cause the Sonic 2006 disappointment was still in recent memory and when Sonic and the Secret Rings was released, I was afraid that the future of Sonic games would be THAT. Sonic just running forward automatically. That gameplay style didn't interest me at all.
I preferred 2006 more than most of the years in the 2010s when it comes to Sonic. The only years from the 2010s that I prefer over 2006 are 2011 and 2017. Every other year in the 2010s was either alright or horrible.
I love the 2000s, but I don't fully hate anything after 2010, I will never say everything in this year or that year sucks. There will always be the worst part and the best part of every year. Thank god 2001-2010 is the most peaceful decade so far while 2011-2020 is the best time for social media along with Disney and other cartoon shows to gain a new breath of fresh air.
Colors made you think your too old for Sonic eh? I can relate BUT not with the Sonic…Instead the Barney. 7 year old me basically watched an episode of Season 10 of Barney & Friends And because of it being completely different from the past 9 seasons. It made me think I was too young for Barney…yeah, Me in 2010, a 7 year old thought he was too young for Barney…a Franchise for 2 YEAR OLDS. Ouch
Having played Flicky I can say its pretty fun. It's a game about well collecting flickies but you gotta collect a set amount per level before going to the next. It was really fun, the ultimate genesis collection was a awesome gateway
My favourite Sonic Game up till now is Sonic Unleashed I love it way too much I still play it on my Wii U till this day (Since the Wii U can play Wii games)
The release of sonic colours ultimate made me cry. Over 2 decades I had been waiting for a new Chao garden only to hear they stopped making a adventure 1 and 2 remake for colours ultimate. A game that isn't even that old and could have easily had a port instead of a remaster.
my top 3 BEST sonic years 1.2014 (when I loved the sonic series the most and played games like 06, heroes, and unleashed etc.) 2.2007 (when I first became a sonic fan thanks to sonic advanced 3 which was my first sonic game) 3.2018 (when unleashed turned 10 and my love for the sonic series reignited) my top 3 WORST sonic years 1.2015 (when I first played through the worst sonic game of all time sonic boom and my sonic depression truly kicked in) 2.2020 (when the sonic drought became a thing for me and many others) 3.2013 (when lost world came out and I questioned my stance on the sonic series)
As a fan of year 1999 and 2000, I am terrified for what I am gonna see in this tier list lol Edit: Noooo, I was afraid you'd put 2000 low... ah well, did I r really expect anything else? 😩 at least you haven't played it yet! Which is GOOD! Too many people judge it SO harshly...
top 3: 2017 (the hype leading up to forces was one of the highest points of my internet presence. got into the sonic fanbase with my artwork and had a following for that which was nice) 2015 (got into sonic for the first time, played my first sonic game (generations)) 2001 (release date of sa2 my favorite sonic game) bottom 3: 2018: sunk in how much forces sucked despite months of excitement building up to it. post-excitement depression hits hard 2020: drought part 1 2021: drought part 2, but at least there are slivers of things to theorize about for the future
I think its bad that even though forces was my first anniversary game as a sonic fan(technically generations 3ds since that was the game that got me into sonic but im not counting that)and i was so hyped but the more footage i saw i was like...oh no...i was more hyped for lost world!! Im now cautiously optimistic for frontiers But yea Heroes and 06 are still the goats though
Hey prem my uncles dad dogs beat friends step sister works at sega and origina is so good it has rainbows all over i showed my mum and she fell down and is dancing on the fllor anf bubbles are comibg oug of her mouth yay!!
Good list, but I think you're sleeping on 2009. Not only did Black Knight come out that year, but also the DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, which was absolute fire. No, I'm not joking, if you have a DS, I seriously recommend it. It has a story mode where you get to walk around multiple hubworlds as Mario and Sonic, complete special story related mini games, and interact with a ton of characters from across both series. It's a great game, and it's a shame that it often gets overlooked because it's "just one of the Olympic ones." Also, I'm a Black Knight fan, so getting two banger games in one year is a win in my book. Still not one of the best years, but an underrated one.
This is pretty good and solid,in my opinion 06,Unleashed,and Generations are my favorite Games of the Franchise for having risks, personality, and amazing Gameplay,Adventure Games and Heroes are great,Shadow the Hedgehog is solid, the Movie was fantastic, and Rise of Lyric,Lost World, and Forces are the worst things in the Franchise that offended and angered me that to this Day I'm still pissed about it,I hope and pray that the Sequel and Frontiers are great that it could bring back the Spark of the Franchise once again.
Hey just wanted to say thanks for being the #1 Sonic Channel I started watching when sadly Cobanermani456 went off UA-cam and I watched you and thought "hm I really like this guy: and I love that we both love the same Sonic game: Sonic Heroes or should I say THE GOAT also I really hope you reach 70k subscribers before Sonic Frontiers comes out I watch every single on of your videos and check how many subs you are at hopefully you get all the support possible and I can't wait for the day you reach 100k subs or even 1mil or 10mil because you really deserve it. love you Prem 💙
I might make an "emotional" tier list later, but for now I'll stick with the usual "which year had the better games" format (I've always done tier lists this way so its easier for me lol) Top 3: 1. 1994 2. 2017 3. 2006 Bottom 3: 1. 2013 2. 1996 3. 2020 Honestly had to put 2020 on my bottom list, it only had ONE game and it was absolute garbage even for a rushed mobile game. If I had to rank the years as "the least amount of bad" as opposed to the "most good" that would be a bit harder you could make the best argument for the first year since the franchise wasn't on "milk mode" but if you were to rephrase the question (again) to "what year was the least disapointing" I'd probably agree with you on 06, I actually like the game like you but I wasn't there for the hype, I'd imagine it was pretty cool! As for "what year was the MOST disapointing" 2017 (despite putting on my top 3 due to mania) felt EXTREMELY weird for me emotinally, Sonic 3 and 06 are the 2 games in the series that had the most emotional impact on me, I very quickly projected onto Forces as "thematically the next 06" since it looked really dark, but then they completely screwed it up and also made me cynic (finding out the mania team left only made this worse) for the first time I felt like Sega didn't just make a mistake but just flat out didn't care about the fans out at, its like they didn't even try for that game...It'll take a lot for me to really care about Sonic again like I used to haha! Anyways looks like I got more emotional than I thought haha! Hope you enjoyed this comment! ;)
I don't have a ranking, but some notable years are 2007, the year I got into Sonic at around 6 years old; 2014, the year I got into the Sonic community; 2011, the year that I thought Gens was gonna be the last Sonic game for some reason; and 2018, the year I got to befriend other Sonic fans and interact with Sonictubers like you and DarkspinesSonic via Sega Heroes.
imo even if frontiers is good, I still won't trust sonic team. they are inconsistent. 06 sucked (in terms of polish and quality shit, I still like it), great unleashed, lower-mid colors, great gens, higher-mid lost world, shit forces.
2020 was something else. like legit i forgot how dead it was because I forgot 2020 existed... holy crap Prem was it ugly same with TSR idk who thought that game could compete with crash team racing. If you want a real driving experience just play srb2 kart the game is live till this day or riders DX. But funny story, I wasn't an actual sonic fan until after generations. I played games prior but i wasn't invested to see where it was going/had no idea beside watching cobi. But yeah Screw 2017 Sonic forces let everyone down and funnily enough I think I was a cynic around those years (still am) So yeah... Life ain't so great for the No gameplay Hog.
@@SonicSwift99 just like prem I mainly associate mania with 2018 as humans tend to have the negatives even if a small minority lessen the positives. Mania was good until you realize that sonic team barley had anything to do with it and it's more shody elements such as reusing old zones came from them. + The fact mania is connected to forces which as we know is a terrible game in comparison added onto the hype of it being almost as serious as SA2 to then flop.
My favourite years with explanations(I was born 2003 so I can’t go before that): 1. 2011: Sonic finally felt like he returned to his former glory. It was such a hype year. Generations was one of my favourite games. I loved this game so much. 2. 2020: The impact the movies have on Sonic are legendary and will be seen 15 years later. Sonic would have died without the movie. When all hope was lost, paramount saved us. 3. 2005 I just loved Sonic Rush as a kid so I have to rank 2005 high for releasing one of my fondest memories. I was only playing Sonic rush for a long time so it may aswell have been 2005 for me. 4. 2022: A phenomenal movie, a great tv show(despite butchering shadow) and a good game with one of the best sonic stories. A step in the right direction. 5. 2008: I remember loving unleashed due to the people around me playing it and some hating it. It’s a great game and I couldn’t play it for shit but I loved the cinematic. Around the time I finished generations I finally went back to this game and still couldn’t finish it. I only started playing the unleashed project this year and I’ve never had this much fun playing Sonic. This game would have been peak if some decisions were never made or if the werehog was fleshed out more. I loved chip and the cinematic released. Worthy contenders: 1998: SA1 is my favourite 3D sonic gameplay wise. If I lived throughout this year I’d have loved it. 1994: I love SA3 and Knuckles. It’s my favourite 2D Sonic game. I played it a lot when I was 12-14. I’d play it with my sister emulated on my pc and I’d play rom hacks to it too. 2001: Just seems like such a badass year. Shadows my favourite character too. SA2 is really good but I hate the Mech stages and non modded emerald hunting stages. I probably played more SA2 than SA1 but I’ve never finished it due to losing my data awhile back. 2017: Mania = Good Forces = worse than 06. 06 was frustrating and I couldn’t get past wave ocean as a child but the more I played it and the more I got used to it’s bullshit/it’s rules I actually found it fun. The only fun thing about forces was glitchy speed runs. Game was not worth 40$ and I probably hate it more than I should because I spent that much amount of money on it.
That Demo of SA1 on dreamcast was nostalgic af to me. It was the first sonic experince game wise I had and it was on one of my older cousin's dreamcast but me and my younger cousins could spend hours just playing Emerald Coast with no fatigue. The Emerald Coast track became so engraved that it's vibe and feel even now defines my taste in what's considered a Sonic track especially in the adventure era.
I used to love heroes as a kid but now I dislike it. One of the reasons is the dialogue. Tails for me was a cringe fest (more so than the "meta era" version). I find the chaotix's surprisingly tolerable.
My thoughts on each main game 1-Good, but not a masterpiece. First played on my Samsung S3 2-Amazing CD-First played on my IPhone 8, it’s confusing as fuck but the soundtrack slaps 3&K-Haven’t played it SA1- Played through PS Now. Didn’t beat it fully. But a good game though a tad outdated SA2- Peak 3D Sonic imo Heroes- Good visuals and gameplay but the controls are slippery to high hell Shadow-Watched my brother played it. Never played it myself, so….. 06-Best 3D Sonic game ever! Secret Rings-One of my first Wii games, the controls are shit but the story is great Unleashed- Second favorite 3D Game. Beautiful visuals, story, character development, and RPG elements. Black Knight- Really good, love the story. I quit after the Lancelot Returns fight. That shit was so hard Colors- Great, but it needed more 3D Gens- Amazing Lost World- I never beat it 100% but it’s….. alright Boom-never touched it, don’t plan on touching it, and it can go set itself on fire Runners- Only played 8 times, but it was really underrated. I wasn’t a fan of the speeding up however. Mania- Peak 2D Sonic Forces- *fuck this shit. FUCK THIS LINEAR, FALSE ADVERTISING, BABY PROOFING SHIT! FUCK IT TO HIGH HELL* Team Sonic Racing- Really Underrated, and the story was meh, but at least Sonic’s quills were put back to normal. Plus, that Cool Edge Remix❤️
2001 easily The Christmas of 2000 is what got me into sonic So 2001 ended up being the year I spent a lot of my time as a kid playing through sa1 and sa2 a little later
Top 3: 2008: Unleashed is the GOAT 2011: Sonic Generations 2017: Mania (yes forces isnt good but eh Im not invested in the franchise at the time) Bottom 3: 1995-1997: Terrible spin offs and they all blend together in my mind 2014-2016: Boom is awful and a mid show cant save that 2007: Secret rings is hot garbage The only personal connection I had to sonic was gens and unleashed so the bad years dont rly bother me idk
Top 3: 2008 (grew up w Unleashed) when I was most into Sonic. 2011 (grew up w Gens) just liked it less than Unleashed. 2009 (When I beat Unleashed and played Black Knight which I really loved. Bottom 3: 2014 (TV show fire but I couldn’t bring myself to play more than 5 seconds of Rise of Lyric) Also gave series a low budget. 2013 ( I think Lost World is the worst game in the series because it felt like they took everything Sonic away from the game and made it the most generic plat-former of all time w uninspired levels, music, level design, and the worst video game story of all time from a modern video game. And a tie for first is between 2010 and 2017. In 2010, I was still a big fan of the franchise and while I liked Colors back then, it has slowly become my most hated game in the series behind Lost World because of how much it was praised and it completely ruined the franchise of new ideas, ambition, a good voice cast and story, characterization, and basically everything else. And 2017 is self explanatory, thought Mania was awesome and then I play Forces and get crippling depression because of how genuinely fucking ass it is.
2006 an S and Colors + Forces an F? Fail. Opinions of course, but still. Colors should be a B, Forces should be a C and 2006 should be an F. Despite the ambition it still came out a broken and glitchy mess even if I do recognize this was Sega's fault.
My top 3 years: 1. 1999, because this is when those of us non-Japanese could play SA1. I got my Dreamcast on NA launch day, 9-9-99. To this day, this is the only console I got on launch day. Along with SA1 of course. It completely changed Sonic's image from then on, and his games. I will cherish it to this day. 2. 2002. Sonic transferring from the failing Sega hardware to Nintendo was a wise-ish move... if Nintendo hadn't also bombed that generation. Nonetheless, I loved SA2B and the Advance games, and this all started here! 3. Tough choice, but... gotta give it to 1994 because S&K. No questions asked. Also SatAM was still on. Height of Sonic, although I'd be too little to really remember when it happened. Bonus: 2004. Advances going strong, Battle which I loved, Sonic X going strong, and I'm meh on Heroes but I played it a lot. My bottom 3 years: 1. 2005. This is when I stopped being a Sonic fan for a long time. Just hated the direction Sonic was going, and video games in general were meh to me. Shadow was the first console Sonic game I didn't get or have interest in. My numbness began to set it. I had no interest in Rush despite having a DS. 2. 2020. I liked the movie! But as you said, it was the driest drought year ever, and I just couldn't deal with that. We got NOTHING besides the movie. 3. 1995. This is when Sonic entered his true first Dark era, with pretty much nothing of quality. This hurt him permanently. Sega was being stupid.
One of my first memories of a cartoon character ever was Sonic in Sonic X, airing on Jetix in the 2000s. I didn't know English back then so obviously I didn't know what was going on in the show, and I didn't see much of it either, but Sonic's cool character design and attitude, along with running fast, stayed ingrained in my memory forever. Which is why a couple years later I was very excited to play the classic trilogy, the Adventure games and Heroes, which was a blast Though I'd say my favourite year of Sonic was definitely 2011, cause that was when I started discovering Sonic fan games and cartoons on Newgrounds such as Nazo Unleashed. But the thing that gives 2011 the win for me is Sonic Generations. Not only because it's a lit game, but because I was old enough to actually witness and be aware of the hype that this game was getting before its release. And boy, was it worth it Of course, since it's the 2010s I never had that level of hype ever again. I guess there's Mania but it wasn't really the same. Forces was announced right before my first year of high school and yea tht sucked. I'm in university now and hopefully I'll get to play a new Sonic game that is actually better than Generations before I graduate, or even before I hit 30 lol
Great list man. Def agree with the ranking system based on emotion. 2022 was a great year for sonic content, but it doesnt feel that way for some reason. Perhaps because sonic frontiers has too much forces DNA and emptiness, the feelings of hope on the next games are just neutered from that? Loved prime, and the movie sequel was good tho.
Like u said prem colours is no longer the game that saved the franchise from 06 and unleashed colours is now the game that induced seizure's on children on innocent children that is now the new legacy of colours induced seizures and izuka will have to live with that legacy until he gives up and kills all of the fucking wisps ffs
Hey prem how hype was sonic in brawl in 2007 i was only 3 then in 2011 when i saw mario and sonic in a fighting game i craped my pants with jason griffth vouce
I will not stand for any ignorance surrounding the Flicky game. I played that shit nearly as much as Sonic 1 back in the day. It's my baby (and available on Steam)
Hey prem i was only 2 in 2006 how hype was sonic 06? I remeber in 2012 when i saw my friend play sonic 06 and i was so hyoe the game looked so cool and sonic shadow and silver were so cooland i saw him play colors but something about sonic felt wrong. I used to think that sonic 06 was the best sonic gamr lol

I preferred 2006 more than most of the years in the 2010s when it comes to Sonic. The only years from the 2010s that I prefer over 2006 are 2011 and 2017. Every other year in the 2010s was either alright or horrible.
Forces sucks tho
@@nazomius7033 he's probably talking about mania
Horrible? Eh. I think most if it was meh in retrospect especially game wise. At least for other things we had the boom cartoon and comics.
@@XlWolfMaster Yeah Ik, but a 2D game can’t be compared to a 3D one
@@nazomius7033 They can, but does that mean they *should* be? Not exactly
All hail the 2000s. 🙏
Hailing.
7 year old me basically watched an episode of Season 10 of Barney & Friends
And because of it being completely different from the past 9 seasons. It made me think I was too young for Barney…yeah, Me in 2010, a 7 year old thought he was too young for Barney…a Franchise for 2 YEAR OLDS.
Ouch
Thank you for posing this in time for me to listen while I design this cover art for my Meteor Herd remix!
Having played Flicky I can say its pretty fun. It's a game about well collecting flickies but you gotta collect a set amount per level before going to the next. It was really fun, the ultimate genesis collection was a awesome gateway
Cool tier list. Must've missed this one when you posted it.
My favourite Sonic Game up till now is Sonic Unleashed I love it way too much I still play it on my Wii U till this day (Since the Wii U can play Wii games)
Bruh you're missing out on the actual full version
@CutesyLoveyDovey2022 very great choice
I find it funny how 2004 had more content then 2019, 2020, and 2021 combined
The release of sonic colours ultimate made me cry. Over 2 decades I had been waiting for a new Chao garden only to hear they stopped making a adventure 1 and 2 remake for colours ultimate. A game that isn't even that old and could have easily had a port instead of a remaster.
I don’t care what anyone says
Sonic X was heat
Only in Japanese imo
my top 3 BEST sonic years
1.2014 (when I loved the sonic series the most and played games like 06, heroes, and unleashed etc.)
2.2007 (when I first became a sonic fan thanks to sonic advanced 3 which was my first sonic game)
3.2018 (when unleashed turned 10 and my love for the sonic series reignited)
my top 3 WORST sonic years
1.2015 (when I first played through the worst sonic game of all time sonic boom and my sonic depression truly kicked in)
2.2020 (when the sonic drought became a thing for me and many others)
3.2013 (when lost world came out and I questioned my stance on the sonic series)
As a fan of year 1999 and 2000, I am terrified for what I am gonna see in this tier list lol
Edit: Noooo, I was afraid you'd put 2000 low... ah well, did I r really expect anything else? 😩 at least you haven't played it yet! Which is GOOD! Too many people judge it SO harshly...
Random question but let's say if you have the gamecube disc for Sonic Heroes does it work if you put it in th e Wii?
Best sonic tuber on the platform????? Yea
top 3:
2017 (the hype leading up to forces was one of the highest points of my internet presence. got into the sonic fanbase with my artwork and had a following for that which was nice)
2015 (got into sonic for the first time, played my first sonic game (generations))
2001 (release date of sa2 my favorite sonic game)
bottom 3:
2018: sunk in how much forces sucked despite months of excitement building up to it. post-excitement depression hits hard
2020: drought part 1
2021: drought part 2, but at least there are slivers of things to theorize about for the future
I think its bad that even though forces was my first anniversary game as a sonic fan(technically generations 3ds since that was the game that got me into sonic but im not counting that)and i was so hyped but the more footage i saw i was like...oh no...i was more hyped for lost world!!
Im now cautiously optimistic for frontiers
But yea
Heroes and 06 are still the goats though
sonic ova is so underrated
I already knew before watching this video that you would put 2010 in F tier just because of Colours.
What's more overused the word Year of Sonic or 2d sections ?
Why not both
Facts both are overused.

Here 2022 predicting Sonic Condoms
My opinions on Black Knight are set, but maybe I'll stream that Olympic Games at some point to see how I feel about it
olympic winter is the best in the series (both versions)
This is pretty good and solid,in my opinion 06,Unleashed,and Generations are my favorite Games of the Franchise for having risks, personality, and amazing Gameplay,Adventure Games and Heroes are great,Shadow the Hedgehog is solid, the Movie was fantastic, and Rise of Lyric,Lost World, and Forces are the worst things in the Franchise that offended and angered me that to this Day I'm still pissed about it,I hope and pray that the Sequel and Frontiers are great that it could bring back the Spark of the Franchise once again.
Late 2014 to late 2015 was basically death
I'm pleasantly surprised that he prefers to play Sonic 3 on its own, just like I do 👍 Either year that Sonic Adventure came out is my favorite year
Also I love the dedication put into this vid. Some people would just look at mainline titles and call it day. Nice job 👏 👍
Man I remember when I first viewed this channel. It was with sonic runners when it finally released in NA. I’m honestly super nostalgic about that
That thumbnail is hilarious LMFAOAOAOAO
Premy has the most GOATED opinions.
Top 3 years:
1. 2010, Sonic Colors.
2. 2011, Sonic Generations.
3. 2013 and 2014, not gonna lie pure nostalgia reasons.
You need to play sonic unleashed or the adventure games if u think SOnIC COLORS is better than anything else

Here 's my Sonic Year ranking (My opinion)
1. 1991 S-tier
2.1998 S-tier
3.2005 C-Tier
4. 2008 A-tier
5.2010 B- Tier
6.2011 A- Tier
premy really workin his ass off for these videos 💯
I might make an "emotional" tier list later, but for now I'll stick with the usual "which year had the better games" format (I've always done tier lists this way so its easier for me lol)
Top 3:
1. 1994
2. 2017
3. 2006
Bottom 3:
1. 2013
2. 1996
3. 2020
Honestly had to put 2020 on my bottom list, it only had ONE game and it was absolute garbage even for a rushed mobile game.
Hope you enjoyed this comment! ;)
Dude throw 2006 in F tier. Sonic 06 sucks just accept it
Even if you don’t like 06 it wasn’t the only thing to drop in 2006 lmao.
@@DenYT1 Riders was great though. I miss playing that game
Maybe listen to the criteria first?
I don't have a ranking, but some notable years are 2007, the year I got into Sonic at around 6 years old; 2014, the year I got into the Sonic community; 2011, the year that I thought Gens was gonna be the last Sonic game for some reason; and 2018, the year I got to befriend other Sonic fans and interact with Sonictubers like you and DarkspinesSonic via Sega Heroes.
I appreciate the efforts on this video, and I 90% agree with your list, thank you so much, you've got a subscriber!!
Thank you!
1999 was a great year and an even greater Christmas! First system I could ever call mine was indeed the Sega Dreamcast and I played SA1 non stop!
I'm surprised you put 1993 in S-Rank, since Sonic CD came out that year lol
Yeah 2 banger TV shows was enough to save it from that mid game lol
imo even if frontiers is good, I still won't trust sonic team. they are inconsistent. 06 sucked (in terms of polish and quality shit, I still like it), great unleashed, lower-mid colors, great gens, higher-mid lost world, shit forces.
18:42 this man never ceases to surprise me with his references
Everybody ha-aates Chrissssssssssss
It take me a little while to get it. LOL.
todays kids dont know how raw times were back then. 01 born here. this new generation has things so lame and with less heart
Fun fact, Iizuka himself wrote the story for Rivals 1 and 2. So you have him to thank for the best characterization in your opinion.
Drought deniers are the worst, real quick to call someone toxic just cause they’re rightfully unhappy with the state of the franchise
Funny how people call you overly negative with all these S tiers!
2017 had Mania at least to save it from being the worst year. I'd say 2014-2015 were worse or even 2020 with how dead those years were lmao
Please do this same exact idea with other franchises
Stay tuned on the Non-Sonic channel!
My favourite years with explanations(I was born 2003 so I can’t go before that):
1. 2011: Sonic finally felt like he returned to his former glory.
Worthy contenders:
1998: SA1 is my favourite 3D sonic gameplay wise.
2017: Mania = Good
Forces = worse than 06.
Assuming you’re talking about prime, how did it butcher shadow?
I hated/dislike color as well. I think the humor is terrible by any standards.
Great job on the tier list prem I enjoyed it
My thoughts on each main game
1-Good, but not a masterpiece. First played on my Samsung S3
2-Amazing
CD-First played on my IPhone 8, it’s confusing as fuck but the soundtrack slaps
3&K-Haven’t played it
SA1- Played through PS Now. Didn’t beat it fully. But a good game though a tad outdated
SA2- Peak 3D Sonic imo
Heroes- Good visuals and gameplay but the controls are slippery to high hell
Shadow-Watched my brother played it. Never played it myself, so…..
06-Best 3D Sonic game ever!
Secret Rings-One of my first Wii games, the controls are shit but the story is great
Unleashed- Second favorite 3D Game. Beautiful visuals, story, character development, and RPG elements.
Black Knight- Really good, love the story. I quit after the Lancelot Returns fight. That shit was so hard
Colors- Great, but it needed more 3D
Gens- Amazing
Lost World- I never beat it 100% but it’s….. alright
Boom-never touched it, don’t plan on touching it, and it can go set itself on fire
Runners- Only played 8 times, but it was really underrated. I wasn’t a fan of the speeding up however.
Mania- Peak 2D Sonic
Forces- *fuck this shit. FUCK THIS LINEAR, FALSE ADVERTISING, BABY PROOFING SHIT! FUCK IT TO HIGH HELL*
Team Sonic Racing- Really Underrated, and the story was meh, but at least Sonic’s quills were put back to normal. Plus, that Cool Edge Remix❤️
2001 easily
The Christmas of 2000 is what got me into sonic
So 2001 ended up being the year I spent a lot of my time as a kid playing through sa1 and sa2 a little later
I don't wanna watch past 2004 cuz I know that's the peak for Prem, lol but ya gotta watch the whole video!

Top 3:
2008: Unleashed is the GOAT
2011: Sonic Generations
2017: Mania (yes forces isnt good but eh Im not invested in the franchise at the time)
Bottom 3:
1995-1997: Terrible spin offs and they all blend together in my mind
2014-2016: Boom is awful and a mid show cant save that
2007: Secret rings is hot garbage
The only personal connection I had to sonic was gens and unleashed so the bad years dont rly bother me idk
1.2003 sonic X , sonic Dx , sonic heroes
2.1993 Sonic 3 ,sonic cartoon
3.2002 Sonic Adventure 2battle
35:17 main reason I clicked 😂
I'd say sonic was cringe in Heroes tbf, but I find it and Colours cringe charming unlike Lost World or Forces or 06 personally

HI
PH;
My top 3 years:
1. 1999, because this is when those of us non-Japanese could play SA1.
My bottom 3 years:
35:21 that doesn't even make sense....(the fact that 06 is better then colors) but it's your list not mine

Which is why a couple years later I was very excited to play the classic trilogy, the Adventure games and Heroes, which was a blast
Though I'd say my favourite year of Sonic was definitely 2011, cause that was when I started discovering Sonic fan games and cartoons on Newgrounds such as Nazo Unleashed. But the thing that gives 2011 the win for me is Sonic Generations. Not only because it's a lit game, but because I was old enough to actually witness and be aware of the hype that this game was getting before its release. And boy, was it worth it
Of course, since it's the 2010s I never had that level of hype ever again. I guess there's Mania but it wasn't really the same.
Forces was announced right before my first year of high school and yea tht sucked. I'm in university now and hopefully I'll get to play a new Sonic game that is actually better than Generations before I graduate, or even before I hit 30 lol
You had cream the rabbit? That was the only one I never got :'(
Great list man.
Sonic 06 was a year everyone started hating on Sonic and you are putting it in the s tier.. Is this trolling?
Its actually so crazy to imagine that people had played all sonic games before i was born (2007)
Gotta do one on public perception next
Glad to see my love for sonic heroes isn’t just my own lol. Fucking love that game
