  • As a teenager Francis Canning went to Longford aged 18 to join Brian Harkin and The Plainsmen professionally, followed by Larry Cunningham and The Country Blue Boys. Then back to Derry for King Creole + Rock Stewart and The Plattermen in those great days of the buzz in dry halls and marquees.
But it all actually started for him when he was delivered a piano accordion from Santa aged 6. Followed by him winning the junior talent competition at Butlin’s Monsey a year later. When 9 he went to piano lessons and did his exams with Trinity while also playing piano keyboards in local groups to gain live experience.
Playing in the showbands is where Francis developed his own individual style, while influenced by a man with the same initials F.C Floyd Cramer.
“The Candy Store” was one of the biggest hits from the Showband scene so it was only fitting that it would be the first single from Francis tribute to the showbands and all the musicians who made it a very special time for everyone who traveled the roads either as a follower of the Showbands or as a musician.
The brand new album is now available on all Streaming sites in your music shop or online from Sharpe Music.
