I find this very interesting that medieval fairs etc getting more and more popular outside Europe.
cultural appropriation XD
they're very big in the US, have been for decades
Shad is so happy and exited in this video. It's infectuous.
this fair while not nearly as extravigant and big as the ones we go to in America, but it sure as hell is more authentic. Throughout this fair i see more people dressed the part, no fake buildings with just a front room, and no fucking fairies! Good fair in my book.
dm Sanchi
Yeah... the Remaissance Fair held near where I live is only one step above Medieval Times - in that the food is only likely to make you sick rather than guaranteed, and you can actually stand up. And no reenactors either - mostly crappy fantasy cosplayers. Best case scenario you might encounter someone who does LARP and actually knows something about things, and may actually look slightly convincing. Worst case scenario it's a boring waste of time and money that could he spent pulverizing and being pulverized by your friends, usually with maces and warhammers.
Now if we could have a Migration Period Fair...
I mean, imagine a bunch of people in Vendel Era or Víkingr Aldur garb who do actual reenacting, and know things in general...
mt Sanchi, the medieval fair we had in my town had authentic food such as deep fried Oreos, deep fried snickers, deep fried pickles, cola, and ice cream. It was so authentic!
Yeah the amurican ren faires are a racket just like everything else in the country. No weapons allowed and it costs at least 60 bucks to get in.
I dont know hoe they are in amerika but here in the netherlands we have fairs that are very authentic but also very very big they are like pop Up cities.
Dude, you should visit the european Medieval fairs. Since I live in Germany I can mostly refer to german Mittelaltermärkte, but I've been to some in Sweden, Poland and England and there are very interesting ones. Some are not historically accurate and are mostly for entertainment, with music, food, live shows, shops, etc, where you can participate or simply enjoy everything as a visitor. But there are some things called Burgbelebung where a group of people try to show you how people have lived in a certain time period. But we have LARP here, too :)
While this video is wonderful, I feel as though it needs subtitles. It's difficult to hear/understand the people speaking.
Agreed.
Yeah this is too true
"What did you drink last night?" A bit of Vodka. "I'm a bit hung over too." Where are the winches?
“meat with a sex toy that's respect right there“ -automatic subtitles
subtitles at 8:44
Siege weapon? Are you nuts? This is a sex enhancement machine.
This is so picturesque, very soothing.
The whole time I watched this I had the biggest smile on my face, such awesome stuff. Would love to see stuff like this in my area.
Hi all I'm in the UK and live near a few castles. In the summer I love to take the kids to a few shows like this. Bloody great to see the past come to life.
these fifteen minutes somehow made me nostalgic for a time period in which I wasn't even alive. well done.
I consider myself lucky enough to live near kaltenberg, where the world's biggest medieval fair & tournament takes place every year.
This was really entertaining
Nice to see another video by Shad
auto-generated captions are the best thing in UA-cam: «... he's cutting the meat with his sex toy that's respect right here... » xD
oy
Shad the next Gumeraca Medieval Fair if you can come next year it is epic and massive you would love it it is in South Australia well worth a trip you can camp there if you like and they have a massive medieval feast and it goes over two days .
Hearing "G´Day" on a medieval festival...just cracked me up^^
Bonza viking! How is your arvo of slaughter?
This video is seriously under appreciated, such a cool festival
I like this! I would like to see more content like this, I'm a big fan of medieval stuff, I don't have anything like that here.
2nd leatherworker usally has his ferret with him
I loved this, I wish we had such cool Fairs where I live, that are so period accurate. Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the videos
I'm using the picture of you in the thumbnail for memes.
Lol, then be sure to show me what you come up with ^_^

LOL
This looked like a very fun time for Shad himself and he got to see what how life was back then during the medieval times.
Australian vikings, interesting.
Frankston, Redfern and Macquarie fields are the known Australian viking habitats.
Australia looks so pleasant, UK's bloody miserable this time of year.
you do know it's spring there right?
we southerns love our christmas snowy decorations in a burning sunny day xD
Almus Quotch It was 34 degrees in Melbourne yesterday. That's 94 in "freedom units"
You should have gone to the one in Brisbane earlier this year, it is GIGANTIC!
I went to the St Ives Medieval Faire and it was amazing!
So cool
I think you cant compare the American fairs with the European ones, we have those in castles and the fields around it, with hundreds of tents, waggons etc. And-ofcourse- the castle itself
Shad, you'd probably enjoy the Lost Trade Fair in Kyneton (1 hr drive from Melbourne), if you haven't already seen it. (Although it has it has become a victim of its own success in recent years; it is so crowded).
We have “The Renaissance Festival” bear where I live, and yeah it is much larger (and more commercial, it feels like going to a theme park without rides). Even though it has “Renaissance” in its name it’s focus is more late medieval or early Renaissance, there are no exhibits or shows focusing on firearms for example. And of course a central attraction is the Jousting competition.
so cool
Our more realistic events in the USA aren't usually Medieval or Renaissance faires. The realistic stuff is usually found in SCA or other similar events. Our Ren and Medieval faires are more fantasy, sword, and sorcery festivals. I didn't realize there was such hatred towards them until diving into the comments on the videos of more realistic events.
This video makes me want to send you a handful of my squires and around half my old army from the SCA. :( You need some fillers down there.
2:00 All the sudden Shad's true accent rears up... G'DAY! I SEE MEAT! LOL! :D
The music was good and it sets the tone perfectly. You might want to regulate it throughout your future videos when people are speaking. Maybe it's just me, but the it was a bit hard to hear what they were saying stuff, over the dominating music. Other than that, thumbs up friend!
Alternatively, subtitles.
I live near this hedgend maze place had no idea this event on. also it was 36 degrees celcuis.
Definitely different from the Colorado renaissance festival. They include pirates. Nowhere near historical accuracy but loads of fun. You can even get historically accurate costumes including corsets. Its located in the mountains so it really sets the mood :)
Same with The Texas Renaissance festival.
I wish I could go to something like this but there is nothing like that near me
I'm from Victoria (Melbourne) Australia. If I knew their was a fair and you where going to be there, I would have come and shaken your hand and say hi.
I know those Viking guys! I'm part of the Adelaide Branch from the same organisation! (The New Varangian Guard)
Hey Shad you should come down for ours in Tassie late this year
I wish we had this top notch medieval artesans here in brazil to buy some stuff on our medieval fairs
well, at least we got good mead
Sweet, when is the next one? Didn't know there was one there would have checked it out for sure.
Medieval fairs look like the coziest events ever.
mate, next year you should try to come along to St Ives Medieval Faire in sydney, it is massive!
There is a pretty good one in st Ives Sydney
@5:20 someone get that mad some leg guards! i keep imagining how bad it would be to get hit in the shin lol
I hope this faire grows, but not too much. Popularity is a curse for authenticity.
shad i think u r very pretty lol thx for being a radical maiden and thatnk u for always protecting me and thanks for watching my show.
You should come to a Las Vegas or California they are awesome
I was surprised to find out you're Australian.
i live in healesville where hedgend maze is
Shad always is drawn to the meat of things. ;)
But what about leather bounded DRAGON BOOKS?
cool
This has to...proliferate...(is that the right words??)...more in australia. We need more medieval fairs like this in australia.
I've met the apothecary before. He was not an apothecary at the time.
Said Byzantine and he said some real authenticity
Music is a bit too loud sometimes (when you talk with the merchants), but the video is really nice cut and very very entertaining?
I doubt you will, but if you've ever got a spare $2K you should come to the one in Western Australia, about an hour out of Perth but it's well worth it. Much bigger and had literally 50 men doing little tournaments and whatnot, even some dudes with badass black armour
For anyone who isn't that smart the 2K would be flights and accomodation. Probably a bit less, I forget
Is that the one in Balingup?
Shuskey yeah
Here is the usual full engagement that I've been leaving.
nice people
It's quite hard to hear what they say, while your voice and the music is really quite clear :-(
May not be as large as US fairs, But content outdoes most in the US.
Wolfram dregaar
By far, yes.
You haven't been to any good ones, then. I've been around and have seen some amazing and authentic places
Show us the completed siege engine!
But shad there were no MACHICULATIOOOOOOOONS!!!
What does he say at 6:40 about his shield ? Can't hear because of the laughing
Mr. Shad have you seen my Roundshield? :D
You might say the RenFaires here are big... but at least you didn't have some waterhead in a jester outfit give you guff about wearing shorts and sneakers for a half hour (he followed us around to heckle me), during a 40 degree summer drought. Or jerks in sci-fi costumes trolling. Though you missed out on the half-naked wizard handing out LITERAL magic mushrooms from a cauldron.
What's the name Of the ball game they were playing??? Were there any other team games in Medieval times?????
MEAT
Hi! so it was Count laslo? Larslo...help
Count Laszlo Leather art.
that taylor need some subtitles, couldn't hear a word she was saying
I want to live in Australia. The heat can't be more unbearable than Arizona, and I want to hug and be punched by a kangaroo
ergh I want to go to this...but I'm in the UK.....
if your uk. look out for the tank museum, they run historical festivals quite often. the last one they did was from medieval times all the way through until the Napoleonic wars. very good day out with battles foot etc
Tin can Callum you should visit Hastings or Tintagel, I've participated there in two events. But I'm sure there are bigger events on your island :)
Then 1000 years later they can have 21st century fairs where ppl walk around while looking at their phones and getting overtly upset over the most innocuous crap.
I can't tell if this channel is rad or swood
Pity you went to Victoria. There's better medieval fairs in NSW
'You guys in America'. Cries in European ;_; hahah
Medieval fairs in Greece? pffff
Nice video, but the voices of other people are SO quieter than yours! barely audible. You really should level them in post-production, before adding the music.
Also, sunny! Here in Milan it's raining like hell.
Tipping intensifies.
Not one black guy there lol🤣
"we talk history" , what? your not using most of your time to sail to byzantine? wtf??? lol
fake, everyone should be wearing brown while covered in shit, plate armour weights 500 pounds and long swords are unwieldy metal bars, katanas ftw
I agree. More realism is needed. Cholera and bubonic plague are essential.
People did wash in rivers and stuff you know? And the wealthy went around in fancy silk outfits.
Do some real research asshole
