Wasn't a fan of this the first time i smelled it, but I may need to retry it now that I know Ethyl Maltol is whipping through the base. I ended up giving it to a friend my first go round.
To me this scent is the most photorealistic representation of a wood fired, dry cedar sauna. My only real complaint is that I'm sensitive to sweetness and I find it can get a bit sickening if you spray on your chest/neck, but I love it for what it is.
Surprisingly it’s one of my most complimented fragrances. I absolutely love wearing this in the winter and it will last on your clothes for a very long time. Greta review 🤛
I wore this and popped in the supermarket, an old biddy in front of me at the checkout asked the checkout girl if she could smell burning. I said it maybe me, she sniffed me and said it was. I said it was a fragrance and she said “ why would you want to smell like a bomb fire 😂
This is why I spray it on my jacket or scarf an hour before I leave the house lol. The crisp burning woods with cloves in the opening can be offputting to some... but the sweet roasted marshmellows, smores & chestnuts in the drydown is what most people love.
@@Spazlites I couldn't agree more. I felt weird on the opening when i tried it in a mall and did not feel interested at all. Well after 30 mins strolling around the mall, I look like stupid smelling my wrist every 2 minutes. And i end up buying the full bottle. I am not even into woody scents. All of my perfumes are fresh, citrusy, fruity and greens.
I love this. My sister in law has it and I bought myself some for Christmas. Its very resonant of autumn and winter, bonfire night and November vibes etc, but its just so different, smoky and nice I wear it in summer evenings too
This is a special mood scent when I’m thinking about my high school days and friendships. Off my skin it reminds me of the pep rally bond fires we would have and I’m transported back to those times with great friends and teammates.
Big fan of Tom Ford Black Orchid and Tobacco Vanille. This was a great addition to my rotation. Didn’t like it at first but it very much grew on me and has become a favorite. It gets compliments from my wife. That’s a win. (Edited for typo)
Lataffa do a belting clone of By The Fireplace called Ameer Al Oud Intense Oud. It's a thicker denser version and lasts for 10 hrs +on my skin. Well worth a blind buy at about £13 for 100ml. I'd be interested in your review of it to see what you think Aaron. Belting review as always fella👍👍
True story....One of my dance students gave me a sample of this....I rather like it a lot! I was on youtube tonight and was about to look up a review on it, and of COURSE your video is on my feed before I even did a search! One of my absolute FAVORITE youtube fragrance reviewers, you bring the artistic as well as scientific mindset to your vids ( as well as those moving hands lol), and appreciate your viewpoints on some of my favorite scents. Cheers
I prefer this over Jazz Club, because Jazz Club doesn't really smell like much. It just smells like coconut to me, oddly enough. I much prefer side effect by initio.
Can’t be long lasting like Spicebomb or Sauvage EDTs. I love this scent, it’s a bit hit n moss tho, some people find it too smoky and some people complement me on it. I just wish they’d do a EDP version of it.
I find I like, or dislike this depending on my mood. It doesn't alter my mood or mindset like some perfumes do. This is definitely a mood dependent scent. Lovely gesture to Mike btw
love the smell of this. Eve nmore than just loving the smell, it gives me this huge wave of nostalgia from being at camp and around backyard fires etc... its worth it just for those feelings alone.
I tried this and it didn't quite work for me. My go-to Replica is At the Barber's, which I love. Unrelated, but I got a bottle of Legend yesterday and I LOVE it. Well done Aaron! I can't wait to try more of your fragrances.
initially liked this and jazz club of the replica line a few years ago but rarely reach for by the fireplace now as i have a lot of other nicer scents for those colder evenings when you could wear this.
By the fireplace was definitely a love at first smell for me! I just got Under the Stars today too 🥳 I ordered Afternoon Delight already, but it won't ship until next week, but it will be my sixth 100 ml bottle from them so far, and I have five small travel size ones too!
Great review! It is very niche, I don't wear it too often. Great for winter, cold climates. It reminds me of summer bonfires we have on the beach in Texas but Its not really a summer fragrance. Buy the travel size, don't buy blind. A great alternative is their Jazz club scent which is more mass appealing and more versatile.
I find this scent very pleasant. It reminds me of a time when I took the train home with a friend after having a barbecue with mates. Earlier that evening, it became chilly, so we lit a fire pit. One of my friends added a special seasoning to the fire, creating a unique spicy-sweet aroma. Later, while traveling home in the first-class carriage, the train conductor commented on the campfire smell permeating the whole wagon. Since my friend and I were the only passengers in the small carriage, it was clear that the fire's aroma from earlier had soaked into our clothes. The next day, when I woke up, i picked up the clothes from the day before and smelled it, and the warm, smoky smell with a hint of sweetness was still present, and I found it quite pleasant. This perfume reminds me exactly of that moment. and is the reason why i love it so much. (i also understand why its not everyone's piece of cake)
Hi Aaron, I think the dampness you feel from the EDT doesn't mean it has water, but mainly due to the highly evaporative / volatile alcohol in higher percentage, it takes the heat quickly off your skin, giving the cool and damp sensation as opposed to heavier parfum.
I love By The Fireplace so much. Sadly, it just doesn't perform very well on my skin/clothes for the times/occasions I generally wear it. It'll never leave my collection though, it's just so beautiful per my tastes. However, I am determined and plan on asking a perfumer I know to beef up this formulation for me. Little bit more naturals, higher oil concentration, etc...doesn't need to be a monster although I wouldn't hate that! lol If I got a couple hours of good projection/sillage and another 2-3 hours of both simmered down before closing in on the skin over another 2-3 hours, that would be amazing. Fingers crossed!
Heh, the sample I had of it, I would not describe as light and airy. Quite 180 degrees removed. It's a scent that I like, but I like it more for the art of its perfumery than for the wear. Definitely one for the colder months.
I have that one. True, it's quite surprising at first use and maybe not for everyone. But it does settle down some and is a nice "at home" type of fragrance that might not be the date selection you would want..... But still very nice .... and different.
Whenever I wear it, all I get from it is burnt wood. It’s overpowering and gets boring after a while. I much prefer Jazz Club. By the fireplace reminds me of Stronger with you Intensely, but Armanis scent is just much more wearable, imo.
You say not a lot of people have heard of it but in the US this brand is carried in Sephora and this particular fragrance is very popular. I think it is too common in the US and I am tired of it.
Hey! I would really love to try your fragrances. The thing is, to commit to such high amounts of a price, without smelling them first i just can‘t commit to. Are there any plans to make a discovery set/ 2ml glass bottles where i can just test out the fragrance? I could imagine a lot of other people have the same wish and in the long run it would help buisness(even though i would imagine the logistics of it is quite hard)
I spray a little of this into my hair straight after a shower, it's so refreshing. I know fragrances aren't really for such antics as this, but it works for me.
I like this one, but don't love it. It's fine but wears a bit thin. I think the idea and overall concept is unique but could have been rampred up in a few areas. If it had a bit more heft and lasted longer, it would be amazing.
If they had halved the sweetness of the fragrance this would've been fantastic I think. It doesn't seem to be unisex due to the overwhelming "Marshmellow" scent. I can't help but think that it makes me smell like a woman.
had it dont like it , it smells way to linear smells from the beginning to end exactly the same. Also they really nailed the burnen wood smell not in a positiv sense, it will leave you like when u smell ur clothes after a barbecue where all the smoke attached itself on ur clothes but with sweet roasted nuts smell . very unpleasent in my opinion
It mesmerises me how a perfume can smell so different onto everyone's skin. By the Fireplace is probably the most disgusting scent I've ever smelled out of my skin. Its burning wood was very prominent without any swetness at all to offset, generating an unpalatable used cigarette smell.
I don't won't to smell like I've been by the fire place either 😂 nice perfumery but this is a peculiar one to my nose. Too artistic and not really a practicable option.
This is my snow scent. When it’s a snow day this just hots the spot. Smells like a perfect day by the fire
