- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- This super-simple custard tart recipe looks great, tastes amazing and is so quick to make; just cheat's pastry, vanilla custard and orange caramel. Jamie takes you through every step to success. Obrigado!
This speedy recipe is from Jamie's 30 Minute Meals TV series first aired on Channel 4 in 2010. All the food made in this video was shared out and eaten among the very lucky crew. Nothing goes to waste.
If you're in the UK or Ireland you can watch the whole series right here: goo.gl/3HV34d
Read the full recipe on page 122 of Jamie's 30 Minute Meals book.

As a portuguese person, I can tell you these look nothing like Pastéis de Nata, but still seem yummy :)
I wouldn't say they look NOTHING like them. A big chocolate cake looks nothing like real Pastéis de Nata. These look similar
xChrisS41x similar just in shape nothing else
I agree pastéis de nata are nothing like that
do you put Olive oil, coat yours feta cheese and stuff it with chicken pate before adding a rasher on top??
hate ridiculous, over-sensitive and immature comments like these xD (now you're gonna lambast me for using smilies, jajaja)
was just giving my opinion
u didn´t need to be like that, it was rude
Jamie you should come to Portugal and really know all about our food, keep up the good work mate!
This is why I absolutely love Jamie from River cafe to present day he never ceases to develop easy ways to cook Jamie you'll always be my hero thank you for this and the thousands of others more power to you my dream would be to cook with Jamie
Well Jamie, while I am grateful for your sharing and while I really love watching your videos,...let's say these are Jamie's little pies inspired by Pasteis de Belem/Nata...;-)
....and he does say QUICK......it's for busy people to try :)
these look like a nice twist to classic Portuguese tarts, I´m trying this recipe!
Oh my god! I've been to the Azores in 2011 and if been searching for such recipy since then...... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I'm portuguese and I'm pretty sure that's not how you do it... But it still looks pretty delicious and I'm going to make some for myself. Thanks :D
This was the cheats version ;)
Cherrysoul Cherry More like the orange version of it. I'm not sure we even put caramel on it. It looks freaking delicious, but not portuguese xD
@@blueberryfuzz406 Nah the cheats version is the Hong Kong version. This is very different though still good.
Those tarts may be delicious, but calling it portuguese custard tarts is a bit like saying my grandma is the queen of England just because she's an old lady...
lol. THIS.
lol. THIS.
lol. THIS.
+carlos76437 omg, this is a perfect comment, I was looking at the video and thinking what the hell is that??? those tarts never even stood next to Portuguese pasteis de nata
Rei :D
looks very nice, but that is not a Portuguese Custard Tart
Yup , that’s definitely not a Portuguese custard tart !
Don't be anal it is a version of and bloody delish get over yourself
@@alexanderreeveshamilton3577 it might be very tasty and delish custard tart, it's not a portuguese custard tart
@@joseluislopes3956 get a life!!! Being that anal not healthy, covid-19 is more scary than this not being a traditional Portuguese tart , wow people like you do exist Doubly scary world!!
What recipe on UA-cam would you recommend?
Tried it. Works. Tastes great. Had the original Portuguese ones before too. Similar yet very different. Both are yummy, but this one I can make in less than 30 minutes without much fuss and my four boys love it. Just for that it is an absolute winner! Thanks Jamie!
Jamie, baby, there you go again. They look great, and probably taste great, but they're not portuguese custard tarts (pastéis de nata/natas). They're your custard tarts. No créme fraiche, no caramel, no cinnamon in the pastry, and certainly not one egg only. And after that caramel hardens... who can eat them?
Want to make it simple? Puff pastry in the forms, make a custard like what you would do for a créme brulé, put it in the forms and in the oven for half an hour. THEN sprinkle with cinnamon. Enjoy.
The video clearly indicates it is Jamie’s QUICK version of the pasteis de nata ... it does not mean it is the original, true recipe ... just an adaptation. Personally , I find that anything that is quick and cuts corners gives in the end an average product. However, for some people following a recipe that is complex, will not incite the person to try to cook especially newcomers. So this could be a start ... 🙂
He should do a tour of his kitchen! Love the display! Seams real appropriate and functional! Also is interesting to see the type of ingredients that he has laying around... It has been quite helpful! More than teaching us how to cook he is teaching me how to organize my work station and kitchen! So here goes... KITCHEN TOUR! ;)
I'm not the only one wanting Jamie's kitchen !!!! I LOOOVE the open shelves, the wood, the jars with mysterious things inside, the vegetables on the counter... so cozy! I bet I would cook better in a kitchen like that;)
FINALLY! I've been looking for this recipe since I watched the 30 Minute Meals!
And, as a portuguese, I can say that recipe is a bold move but the tarts look great anyway!
I'm gonna try!
Finally! Of course, you don't get anywhere near top comment, because you're actually sensible. People just want to moan and love moaning on here.
But here; count my like for 1 million =D
These are delicious. Make it!
Although there not traditional Portuguese custard tarts they are lush
omg seriously people... Jamie wasnt doing the authentic Portuguese Custard Tart (Pastel de nata) he was doing something simple quick and that still has the taste of something similar to the Portuguese Custard Tart... Like seriously people grow up... I have tried this recipe and can tell you my friends here on youtube it is awesome and tastes sensational.... You are all jealous for the fact he is creative and adventurous chef... Stop knocking him .. Praise him... I love your recipes Jamie Oliver and I love what you give us to try etc.... God Bless you and your beautiful family.. Cheers from all the way down under Sydney Australia
Tatijana Tajci Kulas if he wasn’t then he shouldn’t put ‘ portuguese’ on the title of it. because if you do such thing you’re basically doing culture appropriation. then he should have put ‘ inspired by the portuguese tart’ or something like that in the description for example. if it were your country’s recipe would you like it? of course not, but you people only remember how to call others ‘ whiny’ when they are trying to be correct and tell you the truth about it. heck we don’t ever use such toppings or sauces that he used in these.
Oh Jamie.. this must be yammi! but it's not portuguese custard tart! Sorry...you re-invented the recipe, because there's no caramel on these little guys... and there's no cream also... the original recipe is made with fresh eggs, sugar, milk and lemon zest ;)
It`s funny that when I went to China 5 years ago I found Pastéis de Nata being sold at the street. I had to try one. I must say the taste was completely different (of course) but the look was closer than the ones Jamie Oliver made! And I believe (by looking at what he`s using to make them) that the ones on the streets of Shangai were even closer to the original (taste-wise) than this ones! Sure these ones look also tasty as a regular desert, but don`t compare to the real deal, those are unique (that`s why the original recipe is secret and stored at a vault)!
D Meister because macau was a portuguese colony ;)
I know that but it always sound strange when you find a typical pastry from our homeland on the whereabouts of such a huge city as Shangai... :P
D Meister eheh for sure
D Meister Are you mistaking Pastel de Nata with Pastel de Belém right? Pastel de Belém is the one with the secret recipe... which does show that Jamie can't even follow a (non-secret ) recipe :D
well, true. You a re right. But even trying to recreate Pastel de Nata he did an awful job... :P
Oh my goodness that looks amazing and not that difficult!
They're nothing at all like Pasteis de Nata. They still look pretty good though.
I absolutely love this recipe! Tried it once and it was delicious! Thank you jamie oliver!
Its as Portuguese Custard as it is a German PIzza mixed with English Paella...
laughable ahaha
Wrong ingredients and a completly wrong way do Custard Tarts.
The real portuguese custard tart is made with pastry (the same used to do AppfelStrudel) and the cream should be roasted with the pastry in the oven.
This is not a Custart Tart, is just a Jamie´s tart.
With all the respect for jamie's job which is great, im portuguese and a chef too and that's not what we in portugal call "pastel de nata"...that is somethingelse
Thanks for a recipe my country.
Portugal is the best.
and you have many followers here in Portugal, congratulations for the new show launched here
I love watching this show food tube.
it is sooo good and i know it because i am portuguese!!! it is always better to eat a portuguese tart but i tried those and they are great! congrats!
Portuguese cuisine is excellent in weight management. Portuguese tarts are the best.
Thanks Jamie. Easy for after school and work snack for the family.
Definitivamente, este é o pastel de nata mais estranho, que já vi na minha vida!!!!
Just made this, its amazing! Gonna add this to my recipe book
What the hell man I am sorry I from portugal but thats not how you make it
woowwww....this is nice! it looks simple....
I didn't expect it, but it was really quick- and easy. There was even a cleaning- advise. Thank you, from Germany
Em trec el barret. Ets molt gran Jamie Oliver!!!
ja es molt gran es genial veure'l cuinar
guys i think they're just Portuguese *inspired*. Whatever, they look good
Could you use yogurt instead of creme fraiche? i still don't even know if you can get creme fraiche in the US
EDIT: I used greek yogurt instead of creme fraiche and it worked great. also, apparently we don't have puff pastry here -_- I ended up using normal premade pie crust. it was still good, but the puff pastry looks way better and easier to manage. on the bright side, since the crust came in a two-pack, i ended up with 12 instead of 6! my folks loved it too.
us does sell puff pastry, its pillsburry crescent rolls or whatever's of the sort :)
haruhizuzu123 i thought about using those. thanks man!
***** thanks, but i think i'll stick with the yogurt. Healthier and easier.
Disgrace to our beautiful pastei de nata's
please... nobody cares...
You would speak otherwise after you actually tasted a real "Pastel de Nata" freshly baked....
What Jamie did is actually miles away from a real one....
+Lusitano PT no... it s not the original one, thats it... nobody cares...
+Lusitano PT he wouldnt know, pastel de nata is one of the greatest things to eat.
Simple and lovely!
Dude, don't call a turkey a chicken, these are not pastéis de nata, they're just another british cream tart, we do NOT use créme fraîche in Portugal, and least of all only ONE egg in a desert, that's a sin!
Seversher gotta Agree... I'm mozambican and know perfectly the original recipe, this is just one easier and look a like recipe of his.
Seversher
é sim ,custard é natas em ingles , e sim ele errou e bem ele estava a tentar reproduzir um pastel de nata e nao uma tarte ...
Make Down CUSTARD É NATAS EM INGLES? Onde é q aprendeste a falar esse ingles miseravel?
So, I'm sure you're also a millionaire chef / chefess - care to spend a few moments tapping on a keyboard for free to share your rich wisdom for Us all, or not? So far your ''recipe'' just reads: more than 1 egg, some 'sin', that's it ,,,,,,,
This escalated quickly over tarts...
yeeeeeeey! Proud portuguese!
these look wonderful for afternoon tea !! ty chef . have a great weekend !!
An authentic Portuguese Tart is a lot more work, I tried the traditional way once and it was more work but worth it. This way produces something similar and tasty too, just quicker and easier for those of us who do not have the time or do not have enough eggs etc.
Hahahaha I think your fabulous Jamie, I have just watched many Protuguese tart blogs...maybe authentic but all were difficult to make, havng to make your own puff pasty ... and yes may not be authentic, but I love that you make it so easy ! I am going to try both ways as soon as I have time. then have friends some family over to taste tests Lol Thanks you so much I love your enthusiasm it's Wonderful.
Hola jemi Oliver, soy una seguidora de tus recetas maravillosas y me encantaría que fuese también en español las recetas ya que me encanta la cocina si es posible gracias un saludo.
The recipe may not be the traditional Portuguese Custard Tart , but still, it looks delicious. Maybe it should be called Jamie´s Custard Tart
Instead of Jamie's Portuguese Custard Tart, you want it to be called Jamie´s Custard Tart?
Does that one word really bother you that much?
***** It does a bit to me, yes, as the Portuguese tarts are very different from these ( although these look so delicious). It is natural to try to preserve the original regional recipes; It is also fun to make versions of them, and tomatrix's suggestion was to simply name them something else:)
Iggypox But its his version of one, that is clear from the title.
Yeah Jamie that's not Pastel de Nata at all. Still, I've tried them and they are amazing! Please come to Portugal and try our food, you won't regret it and the pastéis de nata are absolutely to die for. atb
Quick and easy the way every recipe should be ^_^
Wtf is this? I'm portuguese and i don't know what this is, pasteis de nata? O.o
Maybe a mix of pasteis de nata with crema catalana? LoL no idea, looks amazing though!
It's supposed to be pasteis de nata...
yeah, i think but it turned out kinda different i honestly dont know if it is better than the best custard tarts, but sure looks great anyway
Keep calm and this is just a Jamie's adaptation, made to be fast and yummy and a reminder of pastel de nata, he never claims to be the originals...
***** yeah...it's like when he prepared paella with chorizo, every person from Spain who watched was like...ehmm...whaaaaaaat???
But then it is not Portuguese right? It's Jamie's :)
I made these on the weekend and they were so easy and so delicious. Nice work Jamie - I love your videos and cooking! Your stuff is teaching me a lot, many many thanks :)
Thank you jamie
It's so easy I had to watch this video again there's no mucking around
Terrific; Ole! Thanks for sharing, Jaime :)
You should call it Portuguese inspired...
The pastry’s all wrong as well
Shouldn’t even be called Portuguese at all
Pastel de nata is hard to make and you need to roll and cut the long dough. Than you mold.
Absolutely delicious!
Well, I’ve made lots of pasteis da nata the original, long way and, also with store-bought puff pastry. Of course the original version was delicious and looked like it too, (baked in Portuguese standard molds). BUT, I can’t wait to make Jamie’s Quick style with the carmel topping! The time saving is the key… when so much else in life demands your attention!
Jamie i love you butttt ... i.m sorry but thats not the recipe , its wroung , you cann call that custard tarts , but plz not portuguese tarts because theyr not even close , first the pastery dont take any cinnamon , and they dont take any caramel , the filling is made diferent for each person but its a base of pastry cream then you send it to the oven at high temperature and they grow that beautifull golden/black colour... the name of this is "pastel de nata" and in lisbon is "pastel de belém" .i love them its my favorite tart and desert :)
Creme Fraiche is hard to find where I live. What's a good substitute?
Yes! These look yummy, going to try these now!
Dont say this is a "pastel de nata", this can be a english cream pastry, but Portuguese....i just cant emagine how the food you do of the other countrys must be...
once i saw him do a caipirinha with ginger... he pisses me off
I bought this Piri Piri Chicken recipe video when I lived in London years ago but cannot retrieve or find it. Is the whole episode available on UA-cam or is there any way to purchase it again somewhere?? Want to see the sweet potato recipe which was part of this episode.
Looks incredible!
Tarte just a miracle!
Remember having them on my vacation in Portugal so damn good.
YES! I've been waiting for this! Thank you!
Jamie needs to come to Portugal. Go to a pastry in Belem and eat a true Pastel de Nata.
I'm so gonna (...make my mom...) make these!!! :D
Those tarts look delicious! It is good they are small so hopefully I will share them.
Cooking Lessons for Dad actually they are bigger than the real ones... so there you have it :)
Jamie love your recipes I'm sure it's a wonderful desert HOWEVER those are nothing like Pasteis de Belem or Pasteis de Nata... sorry
Joana Santos its called evolution something alien to portugal
+Battshit Crazy Just like correct grammar is something alien to you :-)
Just as.
Joana Santos q@, ,,
If I can't find vanilla "paste," can I use vanilla extract? Or what would be a suitable substitute?
Im a big fan of yours jamie
I like your caveat about the liquid caramel. You are absolutely right, NO kids and NO mucking about.
Pastel di natti! Muito bem! Obrigado! One of my favorites from my family's trip to Portugal!
no!!! this has nothing to do with "pastel de nata" !!! the pastry doesn't take cinnamon, we do not eat with caramel, but with cinnamon and powdered sugar! this has nothing to do with the Portuguese recipe !!!
Yeap. That looks nothing like our tarts.
great imma try
That is , by far, my prefered dessert in the world. I'd like to learn how to make that pastry :(
Discussion of "authenticity" aside, these tarts are an AMAZING hack dessert that I've been doing and adapting for years, and will be for years to come. I mostly use it as a ratio guideline and then go to town. One sheet of puff pastry, two eggs, two things of creme fraiche and two table spoons of sugar makes twelve tarts. That's the base. If you remember that, the world is your creme tart. Dust your puff pastry with whatever... cinnamon, cocoa, pistachios, matcha, cardamom, pumpkin spice. Substitute a cup of creme fraiche with the same amount of cream cheese or quark. Or a cup of pumpkin for the creme fraiche, or a cup of mango puree, or sweet potato. Stir in a teaspoon of some nice jam - cherry, or strawberry, or apricot, or cassis. Maybe some elderflower sirup or maple substituted for half the sugar (note: never all, or it gets too liquidy). Drop some raisins into the custard, or cranberries, or chocolate chips, or walnuts, or peach cubes. Top with caramel, or molten chocolate - or don't. Whatever cheesecake adjacent dessert you crave, here's the way to have it in your mouth in about 30 minutes tops with minimal effort and minimal cleanup. That's the magic of this recipe. Impress your friends, and make your enemies envy you with this one, easy-ass base recipe you can whip up at any time.
* "Nada a ver"
Eu se viesse aqui defender a cultura portuguesa tinha, pelo menos, o cuidado de escrever sem erros.
No Brasil vende esses pastéis de belém,só não sabia ainda da parte da laranja.
will try this recipe!
This is im looking for...i will try this, thanks
what can i use as substitute for the creme fraiche? whipped vegetable creme?
Orange! Yummmm...
***** Haha, I love everything cooked on Food Tube. :))) Actually, I love to grow food, cook food, travel for food, watch food, and eat food. :))) So yes, I also comment on food. :)))
Rainbow Gardens Nobody cares.
OhKillSwitch Don't be rude, behave. Rainbow seems to be passionate about food and cooking, I wonder if you came to this channel to see if Jamie was twerking naked on the counter. And btw, I care, I prefer Rainbow's comments to your cynical remarks.
OhKillSwitch That time of the month again?
Destroyed. Now go find a nice corner to sit in so you stop boring us, lol
Awesome gotta try this
My Virgin Kitchen It is not the real Pasteis de nata
The point of Jamie Oliver's program is that he takes popular recipes and simplifies them so they take less time and people watching are more likely to actually cook something new. The 'authentic' recipe for pasteis de nata is more complex and takes a lot longer, so a lot of people don't have the time or simply can't do it. It might be a bit cheeky to call them Portuguese tarts, but it's just a way to get people interested in cooking. If you want a perfect recipe go to another channel and get ready to spend triple the time cooking.
They look superb. That has gone on to my list to cook.
Portugal !!!!
That looks so yummy
Bravo
Making them today
I would kill for Jamies Kitchen :D mine is very very small...
Literally 99% of comments by people thinking they're Jamie's long-lost famous Portuguese aunt called Pastéis de nata
The rest are by normal people
We don´t mix cinamon with the pastry. We don´t use creme fraiche because it doesn´t exist in Portugal. We don´t bake the pastry before putting in the custard. We don´t use orange in this receipt. First you have to take a trip to Portugal and learn how to do "pastéis de nata" and than maybe you can try to teach others how to do it.
if I spooned caramel over the countertop who would help me clean it? Does Jamie have a french maid yonder?
I love your recipes Jamie but at most you can say it's "inspired" by the Portuguese custard tarts (pasteis de belém) because that looks nothing like the original ones :/ it's kinda sad actually......
That does not look like Pastéis de Nata...
Viva o verdadeiro pastel de nata ;-)
First time I've seen this.
Nice innovation Jamie!
I need 30 of these
Smart combination ingredients, make disire apetiti for finishid this dish custrad.
is it possible that i heard the music in SHERLOCK ?
also i get these nice custards from the mother of one of my schoolmates, really awesome.
Jesus, literally 90% of comments here are just 'that's not a Portuguese tart'. So it's loosely based on that desert, made with ingredients that are readily available in the UK and he's obviously tweaked it a bit to make it quick and simple yet still delicious.
Not every single recipe has to be the same for it to be called the same thing. Look up a recipe for a sweet and sour chicken and you'll be hard pressed to find 2 the same. My local curry house makes a chicken Madras different to the Indian restaurant in the next town. It's no big deal people.
the problem is too many bored dumb house wifes and gays that fill up the net with shitty recipes and they even add traditional to be harder to find the real ones...its a fake world :)
