I am gonna spam my review of the Plus EP here: If you don’t want to read everything I ask you to at least read the review of track 2 “Yottabyte”, thanks. Keep in mind that I hereby express my personal opinion on the tracks of this Extended Play, so yeah, your opinion may differ, that’s fine. Track 1: Breach (Walk Alone) Big thumbs up for Martijn and Blinders! This style reminds me of Axwell /\ Ingrosso - Dancing Alone. Good stuff. The layout of the track (no vocals - build up - drop - vocals - build up - drop) is something different again, and variation is always good. Also, dear Martijn, KEEP UP THE CLASSICAL INFLUENCES, they are just so awesome! They made Coldplay's best album (Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends) Coldplay's best album. So, yes they are relevant and can fit very well in dance music! Track 2: Yottabyte I must say that I love the track: details that remind me of older tracks (Music box’ music-box-sound, Spotless’ iye-iye sound in the drop, and that chocolate-sounding drop lead bringing Can’t Feel my Face remix to mind) with a strong and sometimes snoring bass underneath it. The melody is awesome and the little alternation after the drop feels calming. BUT WHERE IS THE COMPLETE ORCHESTRAL INTRO?! That was one of the smoothest Martin Garrix’ intros I’ve ever heard and it’s amazing! The emotion from the strings after the initial dangerous sounding horns is uplifting, hopeful, happy and (for the Dutch people out there) Efteling-like. DEAR MARTIJN, if you read this - I very much hope so, because I tried to comment early as I could - know that I beg you to release an extended version of the track: 1. include the 1 minute orchestra at the beginning of the track and go beyond by 2. challenging yourself: make another alternation after the second drop! Take Madeon - Technicolor as an example and make this track from “yeah, that’s good” into an actual 100% masterpiece. YOU SHOULD, because the potential is definitely there! People, spread the word if you agree, plz. Track 3: Latency This one came as a surprise to me. I can say that this is my least favourite of the five. I just don’t feel the vibe. The drop lead is of course well known from Martijn’s bigroom house period. And that cowbell brings in a little funkyness. Track 4: Access “I worked on something new yesterday…” Martijn in February 2017 I loved this ID since I first heard that melody. It’s heavenly. So much emotion, yet so innocent-sounding. Joyous, playful, creative... I could go on for way too long. I really love this. And I’m glad it’s released. Bravo, Martijn! Track 5: Waiting For Tomorrow IT IS FINALLY OUT! I will really have to get used to the verses, because they have changed somewhat. But I have always felt the emotion from this track: sweet nostalgic melody that inspires hope and excitement for the future at the same time. What came as a nice surprise, was the fact that they compensated the missing parts of the initial vocal with a third drop. Martijn's tracks don't have that very often (which is a shame), so I am extra glad that this masterpiece has it. Greatest congrats for Pierce Fulton, Mike Shinoda and Martijn! Oh and RIP Chester So, that was my review of the Plus EP. Overall I think we got a big treat from Martijn this year! What do you think? Do you like the tracks? It's so sad to hear this song now. Martin Garrix lost Avicii. Mike Shinoda lost Chester. And yesterday Pierce Fulton passed away. All because of mental health.
I agree it's heartbreaking.. and two of those artists worked on this track. In the original version premiered at Ultra you can hear Chester's voice as well and I remember Martin Garrix saying he was working on a track with all of Linkin Park at the time (referring to this track of course). Not just the music industry but the entire world has lost and is actively losing far too many people to mental health struggles and I seriously hope we can find a way to bring appropriate change to this issue and get everybody the help they need and deserve.
No one gave enough credit to Pierce when this was released but now when he's died people are out of the blue starting to acknowledge the contribution that he made to this song. :(
