This is known locally in the UK as “WEEKEND AT THE ASYLUM” and is a great event organised by the Ministry of Steampunk. Whilst it has been held at Lincoln every year so far, next year it might not be, but it will be called “WEEKEND AT THE ASYLUM”. Sadly with audiences outside of Steampunk and the UK the word ASYLUM only conjures up negative stereotypes. I’m happy to refer to the event as Weekend at the Asylum in video and make it clear that is what it is but the title is not helpful in a youtube search, especially in the current climate.

I'm only a few seconds in and I'm already gobsmacked by the cathedral (been wanting to go there forever!) and the drone footage! Well done with that intro!!!
thank you Dara, took a lot of courage to get it to that height (the one time biggest building on the planet!) and the second I got it up there the RC starting shouting at me to bring it down as the wind speeds were too high! its a pity I was hoping to do a circle around it. its a stunning Cathedral though and free to enter although they do accept donations!

Lincoln is an amazing place. very vibrant and affluent in that old town. id love to visit on the run up to Christmas, I bet it’s magical. no closed shops and lots of interesting independent retailers of quality.

I was there on both the Sunday and the Monday, in Steampunk Star Wars gear for the Heroes and Villains meetup as well as the Rebel Steam meetup. It was fantastic both days as always!

sitting next to mr sl right now, we've got this up on the tv while i have my puter running for my usual chatty commentary, and i'm all like, "you'll get to meet hugo!" 🥰 your fit with him as the plane pilot, jilly. i cannot love it more! how long did it take to put the plane together? the parrots! those were a shock. sorry the weather came in so ugly. robot pupper just wants to make friends. 🤭 that cathedral is enormous! i also told him, get ready for some incredible cosplay, and lincoln did not disappoint (the cane! 🤣). hugo flying at the end...stop it, i'm dying. hope your weekend is magical! 🛴❤
🤣 hope mr sl liked it as much as you Anne 🤭 Hugo’s plane didn’t take too long did it over a few weeks an hour here and there! We just had to have him flying over the Humber Bridge which we have to cross to get to Lincoln! Hope you guys are having a fun weekend much love across the pond ❤️

thanks although took my eye off the drone for a second and completely lost it. I thought I was flying it alongside the Humber bridge in the opposite direction of traffic (as I wanted). instead it was flying down the river and had travelled an astonishing distance before I noticed! 😵💫

Loved the opening, loved the drone footage and brilliant the see the mini skirt making a return (wow), all amazing! Good to see Mrs and Mrs Draper and Linda and Ian, all looking amazing too. There seemed to be a heck of a lot more Steam Punkers in Lincoln than Whitby and dam shame about the weather but good to see it was not in for the day. Some of those costumes looked amazing as did Lincoln Cathedral inside and out. Weather looking good at Whitby tomorrow, so I think I will see what the Pirate Festival is like there, cheers Alan
that drone will be the death of me. I have pre terrors, post terrors and I’m a wreck when I’m flying it. finally summoned the courage to get the drone above Lincoln Cathedral and the second I got it up there all alarms and whistles went off saying it was too windy and the drone was in danger of disconnecting from the remote. managed to grab a couple of shots before I hastily brought it down. on the Humber Bridge we lost sight of it for ages, thank goodness for the compass feature otherwise we would never have found it! Lincoln is lovely, so nice to see all the shops open and be able to visit the Cathedral. we said this last year but we would like to see it at Christmas time, it would be magical. we have some jobs to attend to at lunchtime but we will be in Whitby later. hopefully in time to see all the pirates kicking off when they have drank too much rum. Ive never been to the festival but by all accounts it gets quite rowdy! I’m hoping for a bit of argy bargy! 😂😵💫

Yeah this one held in Lincoln is held annually and is the biggest in the world! With this one and the two steampunk in Whitby along with the 2 goth ones held in Whitby feels like we are always at these festivals 🤣 have a great week guys ❤️

you did, good spot! I’m hoping to grab myself an octopus for the next event. I only learnt this last weekend but apparently all of steampunk is inspired by twenty thousand leagues under the sea, hence the octopus!
Lincoln is amazing - the first town I ever visited in the UK and it made a huge impression on me. With this steampunk festival it looks even more amazing! 😍😍👍👍

Thanks for the video. This is ‘Weekend at the Asylum’ the world’s biggest steampunk event run by the Ministry of Steampunk. It is NOT the Lincoln Steampunk festival and may be held elsewhere next year.
Yes I heard that Nimrod. There is talk about it being held at York (which would be great for us) but not for lots of people that have already booked their accommodation at Lincoln for the Bank Holiday weekend next year. It will be really interesting to see what happens. I have it in my description and n video that it is the Steampunk Asylum. Sadly my audiences are worldwide and the term “Steampunk Asylum” not only has negative connotations with UA-cam but it is only known locally with Steampunk enthusiasts in the UK. I called my video last year “Weekend at the Asylum” as it is known and it only gained traction recently when I called it Lincoln Steampunk Festival. Thanks for the comment and support, it is really appreciated. I’m guessing the title of next years might be “YORK STEAMPUNK FESTIVAL, August 2025”.
Personally I really love the whole history of the Asylum and what has been done to make this event great but my subscribers who are mostly not from the UK, or maybe even into steampunk that much, have very negative connections with the word “Asylum”.

Thanks Simon 🙏 it still makes me very nervous getting drone 2.0 up but I’m pretty insistent that going forward there should be a reason for a drone shot n every video, even if its only a few seconds. Got heavy wind warnings by Lincoln Cathedral and had to bring it down about as quick as I got it up and by the Humber Bridge I completely lost it. Knew what shot I wanted going sideways over the Humber I; the opposite direction from traffic, it looked like that was exactly what I was getting on screen until it wasn’t. The drone was actually flying further and further away from the bridge rather than running alongside it. Got some great projects lined up and your support means more now than ever. good evening nick and jill mates. next saturday my dad has a navy reunion. a salvage divers reunion. i will take some pictures for you, or try. i think i need a new camera. after the reunion we are heading to nags head north carolina. have you ever been to nags head? i think jill would love it. today i had a very good day. i went to the aquarium. i was at the sea lion show. during the show, one of the sea lion trainners gives me a hug, right in front of the audience. then when we got home, i got a shirt in the mail from one of the youtubers. i will send you a picture. tomorrow. i had a very good day mates. i could use more days like this. have a good weekend.

Great intro guys and getting the hang of the drone I see! Lincoln is a very picturesque city, definitely suits an event like this! I thought that was Ricky Tomlinson at 5:15! Isn't Nick originally from Blackpool? 🧐 ah good old British summer weather! Good to see Lincoln centre doing well, no boarded up places there! Awesome inside the cathedral. Amazing how many steampunkers are in that city! Awesome day out, great costumes and cool drone footage over the Humber 😎
the drone is the bane of my life! I get nervous thinking about it, am a wreck when flying it and have night terrors after. it certainly adds something to the videos but I’m not convinced it’s worth the angst. yes I was very coy with the people that mentioned Scarborough and Blackpool 😂 that is an uncanny resemblance to Ricky Tomlinson! Lincoln does seem to have a lot going for it, we need to make an effort and try to visit it outside of the steampunk event! hope your having an amazing weekend 👍
@GENerationXplorers aww man, that's a hell of a lot of stress for a few moment's content! I've seen people doing drone workshops and the like where people teach you how to get the best out of your drone, maybe worth splashing out a few quid to do if it gives you peace of mind? Haha 'oh yeah, we know Blackpool' 😆 yeah I visited Lincoln last year in between visiting Bolton and Grimsby, I think you can probably guess which place was nicest!
@no_soy_rubio gosh yeah those places are like chalk and cheese! Ive never ventured down into modern Lincoln, I’ve heard that isn’t too clever. Like all the niceness is up on the hill in the old town. I’ll have to venture down at some point, there could be a video in that. Ive had a few lessons with a local expert and it was very useful, it’s just so nerve wrecking with the amount of pigeons and seagulls about. Id be happy in the mountains filming with it where there are no birds and less things to crash into! Ive got one shot I want to get today and I’m already nervous about it!
