Takes me back to when I was ten and I started delivering milk as a van boy off one of these, starting at 5am in the freezing dark. My hands used to freeze to the galvanised crates and I'd scorch them trying to thaw them out on the engine cowling when I got back in the cab.
Tony from ireland i remember these little trucks plenty around at 1 time..i have a few of their cousins nuffield and leyland tractors..was their a diesel engine put in the later 1s? Whatch cost would those make now..a great video their.!
I vaguely remember seeing a Couple of those here in Dublin back in the Early 1970's. 1 was a Static HRLWB being used as a Local Shop in a New High rise Development. The other was either a Mobile Chippy or an Ice cream Van.😏 There were a fair few of these Broken Down Box Van's Dotted around the area as there was No Local Shopping Development there in the early stage of Construction in the late 60's.🙄
Can remember Brennan's Bread or Johnson, Mooney and O'Brien having one or two still running well into the 80s. Last one I saw in daily use was in Phibsborough around 1985 or so. Interestingly, I saw an FG a few days ago in a friend's yard. It needed work, but had unusual custom bodywork. I was informed it was made for the BBC in 1965 for outside broadcasting around London. It has a diesel engine, some original fixtures still fitted. I hope it gets restored. There's talk of making it into a food outlet, which would ensure its future.
That is just lovely, boy, and it was so quiet I thought it must be an electric conversion haha. How many mpg would she do? Bet she holler-on down the road a bit quicker than a diesel one too, I reckon.
That Morris looks truly stunning!
