(How To) Cadena 101 Guide Part 1

- Update as of 11-16-2023; A few things on the class have changed since the publish of this video. Those changes are:
-Chain Arts: Crush - Now grants the maximum amount of weapon arts combo stacks(8) instead.
-Chain Arts: Beatdown: Is no longer our iframe(invincibility) skill and no longer locks us in place. Use your weapon arts skills to proc MM(muscle memory), MM(muscle memory) hits are what charge beatdown now.
-Chain Arts: Reign - No longer grants the maximum amount of weapon arts combo stacks(8). Instead this skill is now our iframe, use it to gain invincibility for a few seconds while holding the skill.
-We now gain Super Knockback Resistance while in the skill animations of Bat, Brick, Shotgun, and claw.
-We also gain a shield kind of similar to blaster's blast shield that absorbs damage(% hp attacks included), to gain the shield you need to hit monsters with MM(muscle memory). Each time you hit a monster with MM(muscle memory) the shield will refresh. Each MM(muscle memory) hit grants 11% shield up to 33% max.
A somewhat quick guide on Cadena, I tried to cover as much as I could but hopefully this video is helpful to those who are looking into maining the class or learning more about it.
I am completely brand new to MapleStory, joined and picked Cadena after seeing a tiered list of damage characters. I had no idea how hard this would be, but I'm enjoying the challenge. I like having lots of buttons to press and Cadena's AOE abilities (pretty much all abilities tbh) are lots of fun to splash around. Makes killing groups of mobs for leveling easier but it's a class you gotta really memorize where all your moves are keybinded to and how to string them in order.

No idea if you knew about this. But you can cancel shotgun into Brick. If timed right, which is fairly easy, you get the knockback from Shotgun, instantly explode brick and get the upwards momentung from Brick. That launch backwards you can then cancel into Claw. It is one of my favorite Combos to do and doesn't lock you into animations too long.

Great guide man! just one question, do you use thrash in between every weapon or do you thrash only sometimes? Your combos are too fast i can’t tell >.
Depends, but i usually won't use thrash on shuriken/bat/claw
Hi. I love your videos that inspired my alot. I have a question: Do we need to 1st thrash before every weapon skill? Ex: 1st thrash -> shotgun-> brick. Or. 1st thrash -> shotgun -> 1st thrash -> brick ( for the final dmg buff from 1st thrash hyper skill)
You need the thrash before each weapon art to gain the fd boost(the fd boost will show up as a thrash icon in your buff bar). Using thrash will allow you to link into the other skills faster than usual and will make then flow much smoother.
My question is do you thrash > skill > trash > skill etc or is it trash > 1 combo
when I use the void strike skill, my computer slows down, how can I fix it?

I am a newbie. Can you explain the concept of "animation cancel" to me? I am absolutely clueless to it as why is it beneficial and when should we use it? Also, with animation cancel, does it mean we can skip the cooldown of a particular skill as soon as we cancel it?
No it just allows you to attack faster basically. It doesn't affect cool downs. But becoming familiar with animation canceling and becoming proficient in doing so will make it easier to dodge while attacking and there's the added bonus of getting a 15% final damage bonus on the skills that have had thrash linked to them.

Great guide btw. I started playing Cadena and I have a few questions about combos. When i try using daggers and bomb together, it ends up like at 10:25, it won't let me use bomb right when im in the air with daggers, why is this? Ping issue? Same issue with shotgun and claw, holding down the button after shotgun never works for me, but spamming claw right after works like 50% of the time.
So I actually figured out a way to make that work for me. I realized I wasn't using thrash before daggers and before bomb, so thrash>daggers>thrash>bomb. NOT daggers>bomb or even thrash>daggers>bomb. This is also true of scimitar>shotgun. Hope this helps!

Yes and no. If you're able to constantly keep using skills right as they come off cd then yes, cdr hat helps cadena a lot. Not only does it lower the CD on bat but all of the other skills as well so the more cdr you have the more fluid all of your skills will line up since they will all be coming off cd closer together if that makes sense.
I’m finding the shotgun > claw combo inconsistent. You said to hold down claw as you’ve pressed shotgun - is that like sticky keys? Also do you thrash > shotgun > thrash > claw?
Yeah, you need to immediately hold claw after pressing shotgun. If it's inconsistent you'll probably need to go into your keyboard settings in control panel and set the repeat delay to the fastest setting, sticky keys will not work for that. You can thrash > shotgun > thrash > claw, however I find this very inconsistent since the window is so small (shotgun barely lifts you high enough to use claw as it is) so I usually just thrash > shotgun > claw instead.

Thank you! Yes, using thrash in between skills is what allows you to quickly link multiple weapon arts skills together
Hey! Great guide! I’m maining a Cadena in Msea but I can’t seem to chain thrash in between skills. For example, thrash>scim>thrash> shotgun. I get thrash to scim 60% of the time, but thrash almost never cancels scim :( and then using shotgun to cancel thrash again gets affected. Any advice you can give regarding linking thrash? I usually cancel my skills using pursuit. But doing that means I’m missing out on extra dps. I practice with booster, DSI and green potions by the way. Hope to hear from you soon!
Also, does the keyboard used affect the way you combo? Just wondering from the way it sounds on your keyboard.
Alvin Dmitri you cant cancel scim with thrash you need to use pursuit right after but the timing will be rough. Shotgun should cancel thrash, just work on timing !

Hi, hope im not late to ask but do Cadena need cd hat compare to LUK stats hat? If yes then what is the recommend CD Reduction on hat is the best for Cadena? There's no guide on the gear section for cadena at there.
Yes CD reduction is what you need, anything over -4s is kinda overkill. You'll see the biggest gain with -2s
@@ProcidaGMS so the best stats should be -2s with 2 lines of luk.
And I am unable to get consistency to combo of thrash > shotgun > thrash brick > thrash > claw
@@aocha-lou -4s is technically better than -2 and 2l luk but it's barely any better so if you land either they both work. As for that combo, I don't really use that in bosses for that exact reason.

Why do you include beatdown and shadowdealer in your trio nodes? I noticed that it's not efficient since you end up going over the level cap for some skills, so I've chosen not to include then - but I'm only level 228. Do you only recommend it when you have all the node slots unlocked?
It's not necessary, I just have the node slots for them so why not. You can get away with 5 trios with one containing 1 beatdown but again, beatdown isn't necessary to max.
Heya just got back to Maple and I am looking for a new class to main I don't have that much free time to commit to good funding but I mostly play Thief classes would you recommend Cadena (I don't mind learning the combos it actually looks really fun) but how will I coop with training would I just burn a lot of potions and die if I don't have perfect control? If so I don't mind sticking to my Xenon just was looking for a change of pace lol
Mmm I recommend maining a class you enjoy playing. Cadena isn't quite that squishy to where you'd burn a lot of potions/die without perfect control, especially past lv200 but that goes for any class once you reach the arcane river. As soon as you have 1.5x the recommended arcane force for any map in the arcane river the mobs will just do 1's to you anyway.

It gets more enjoyable once you get 5th job on it but yeah the bossing side of cadena takes some practice/getting used to! Best of luck
What do you think of the new Cadena V Skill and the buff to apocalypse cannon? Do you think it will improve their bossing?
Both are great and I'm looking forward to them! The new 4th V is very good and can function as both burst and dpm(via proc stacking) and apocalypse cannon really needed the buff it's getting. I think cannon is getting over 100+%damage buff + 1 extra line to it so it should have a significant impact on bossing especially in 10s bind/burst scenarios.
Awesome tutorial helped a lot. Could you go into a boss fight or a dummy fight and possibly add in key visual input. It would help a lot of there's some visuals on what keys you pressed & when on the screen since its kinda hard to tell esp with the fast animation.
Yeah I'm currently working on a second installation to the how to cadena series for bossing, I'll be sure to have nohboard displaying inputs for that!

You use it before every weapon arts skill for comboing but it's optional for claw since claw itself behaves differently than the other skills. Thrash, bomb, thrash, claw or thrash,bomb,claw will both work.
i tried doing the mechanic at the end where you "reset" double jump with pursuit but it doesn't seem to be working. does it require a specific set up?
You have to tap pursuit again once you grab onto something to initiate the pull, once you initiate the pull you immediately flash jump again, after the 2nd flash jump you use shotgun and it will allow you to use pursuit again.

How do you get your exact hotkey window at the bottom right?
The bottom right shows the "quickslots" which you can change either through settings or when remapping keys.
How long did it take you to get good with cadena?
A couple of months with lots of practice and self research watching kms videos/trying to understand the class and gaining experience with how to judge when and when not to cancel movement skills in bosses particularly.

Hey, so do you not using pursuit ever to cancel your skills? Also how do you stay in place for bossing?
There is really no reason to use pursuit and pursuit only cancels the movement/momentum from the skills, not the actual skill animations themselves. For bossing you just use skills with opposite movement(I.e. use bomb/claw, shotgun/claw, bomb/brick, or shotgun/brick. Pursuit also has a 1 second Cool down between casts and if you factor in ping/server lag sometimes you'll end up having it actually grapple to a boss then force move you to the boss. I only use pursuit of for example only one of my skills is off cooldown and I don't want to move.
