WTF! I was just re listening to Weathervanes cause the Noah Kahan song "New Perspective" has a riff that reminded me of this album and had no idea he died... Every so often I check in to see if they released new music. This is so sad, FW is severely underrated!
I learned about Freelance Whales when I rescued their demo CD of out of the free/rubbish bin of a radio station a little more than two years ago. Out of the 10 or so albums I took, theirs was the best by far (well, the Nat King Cole remix album was awesome too).
Love this song and video! To me it shows the beginning of a new phase in life. The beginning of a new phase of freedom and strength. A creation of new life.
This is one of my favorite bands. I am recording an album and I would say they are the biggest inspiration behind the music I am making currently. I love this video, and I absolutely ADORE the entire album. Buy Weathervanes
Yeah, listening to this... all that comes to mind is: WOW. Amazing. It makes me want to paint again for some reason. Just brings something to the surface that I'd forgotten about somehow. Seriously people- Judge those who found this in whatever way they did if you want, but the music speaks for itself. And that's something I don't think any of us can really argue about.
This sounds amazing, the band is really talented. I'm just scared with these hate comments. People, stop it. Press replay if you liked or don't listen again if you don't. But again, they are awesome!
This is a great music video. I like their melding of contemporary and vintage, especially the removing of the masks one by one. I'm pretty sure The Cure's The Hanging Garden did something similar.
Esta genial esta canción, el banjo la pequeña marimba sin y la letra, ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡GENIAL GRUPO!!!!! Y me sorprendió ver que usen sarapes y mascaras representativas del día de muertos.
I'm glad they are starting to get more popular! I watched this vid 50+ times when it was just under 40k views. I don't care about them being underground, I want people to love them like I do
I am not here because of Darren Criss. I am not here because of any sort of commercials. I am here because I found this band on my own, and I love them to death.
I came here from listening to this song when I got their album while seeing them live during some of they're first shows with Naked And Famous. I played the first track and went all the way down to this one. Yeah and. Who dafuq is darren?..........
i absolutely love this song. It is so beautiful and the video is very creative and unique. The singing is so amazing. i am loving freelance whales and their awesomeness (:
love their style cuz they aren't conformed like most of the music in today's society. it's wonderful to hear raw talent and beautiful music that isn't all pop
I think it's funny that a bunch of people are finding out of Freelance Whales from Skins :] I knew of them before that...but when I heard it on Skins it made me really happy
I know the Freelance Whales because of Chuck Criss' brother :) And him NOT from Glee, thank you very much! I'm a Freelance Whale fan and a Starkid for always!
This song is amazing so looked up whales and it came up with band on youtube so I decided to cheak them out thank god I did they are awesome and probably my favourite band now
Montaigne just had this on her 'soaring tunes' list with Zan Rowe (Triple J) and had a lovely take on this. The idea that life is long enough and it's been good. Gorgeous.
"Don't fix my smile, life is long enough, we will put this flesh into the ground again." Such a beautiful upbeat song/ablum, it took me a while to realize it's lyrics focus so much on death. I love happy sounding songs about sad subjects.
@PlainSightt You don't even have to say "to me", that IS what the song is about. Additionally the album is about a boy falling in love with a ghost, so he certainly is ready to die.
You guys are coming to Vancouver and playing on my 19th birthday, April 10! The venue is 19+! Fate? Yes sir!
RIP Chuck Criss! Still my most played song of all time on my iTunes
WTF! I was just re listening to Weathervanes cause the Noah Kahan song "New Perspective" has a riff that reminded me of this album and had no idea he died... Every so often I check in to see if they released new music. This is so sad, FW is severely underrated!
I don't know WHY and I don't know HOW, but this song makes me happy beyond belief.
down in the dumps, listen to this song repeatedly :)
Awesome unique sound these people produce!! They sound like a mix of Fanfarlo and Noah and the Whale :)
ahh! I discovered them about a year ago!!! I listened to their album about a hundred times!!! Love it!!
So upset that I found this beautiful song 11 years later, rest in peace chuck, never knew him but he seems lovely
Love you guys!!!!!!! Can't stop listening to your album all of 2010..
Keep the good work and long life to Freelance Whales

The Banjo is great but my favorite instrument in this video is definitely the watering can!
Love this song and video! To me it shows the beginning of a new phase in life. The beginning of a new phase of freedom and strength. A creation of new life.

Yes, Darren Criss' endless, adorable promotion of this band got me to listen to their music. But I am happy I was brought here by that. They are good!
In my next life...I wish to come back as a Freelance Whale! What a joy to my ears their music is...thank you truly!
This is the first time I've listened to this band, and they are already amazing. I can't wait to hear what other songs they have.
Can't wait for your Canadian tour. Keep up the great music
WOW! I am mexican and I really appreciate all the mexican elements you used in this video, the song is AMAZING!
I might not be your number 1 fan, but i'm this SONG's number 1 fan. I cannot get enough of it.
Heard your music on Chuck, wonderful song. Keep up the good work!
This sounds amazing, the band is really talented. I'm just scared with these hate comments. People, stop it. Press replay if you liked or don't listen again if you don't. But again, they are awesome!
Love that the vid is shot in winter, don't see enough snow in music videos!
Great band .... just got their album .... wish i'd heard of them sooner ....
What a GOOD song! Thank you, Freelance Whales!
This is a great music video. I like their melding of contemporary and vintage, especially the removing of the masks one by one. I'm pretty sure The Cure's The Hanging Garden did something similar.

why do people even bother being here when they're just gonna dislike it??? don't waste your time if you don't have the taste for good music
They're just as amazing in concert. Lolla '10.
I...can't...stop...listening!!!! it's just so perfect
OMG. Is this Darren Chris' brother? I had NO IDEA! Honestly! My friend introduced this wonderful band to me! So glad she did
I first saw this band in the Mountain Dew Green Label Tour. Love them ever since. The guitars in this song are hair raisingly good...
I'm glad they are starting to get more popular! I watched this vid 50+ times when it was just under 40k views. I don't care about them being underground, I want people to love them like I do
This sounds like it should be on a coming-of-age indie film trailer, I see a montage pairing well with it.

For Sure they got inspiration on Sigur Ros! I simply love it!!!!
Thumbs up if you liked the band and their songs before all the commercials and all the publicity of the Criss Brothers.
this song always reminds me of a book i read...i think it was in 4th or 5th grade called Bridge to Terebithia
i listen to u guys every single day!!!
This song is lovely.
I forgot who sent me this a few weeks ago, but I absolutely love it now
Freelance Whales produces the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I have become a huge fan.
Chuck's mask reminds me of Darren's pink sunglasses :)
(Yes, I was a Starkid first. I still love Freelance Whales.)
@JoslynDaniel I have loved FW forever, and was so extremely stocked to see this song on the commercial.
Those Criss boys sure are talented, stylish and quite good looking. Their mom must be awful proud of 'em.
Great and so refreshing tune
love their style cuz they aren't conformed like most of the music in today's society. it's wonderful to hear raw talent and beautiful music that isn't all pop
If they wanted, Mr and Mrs Criss could create a family so talented that they could take over the world.
@SchussFilms im soo pissed i missed the concert at babeville
I think it's funny that a bunch of people are finding out of Freelance Whales from Skins :] I knew of them before that...but when I heard it on Skins it made me really happy
It has been featured on the website and was available through their podcast.
Triple J : New Music

Heard this today in the promotional video for the upcoming "Makeshift Magazine" posted over at Kickstarter.
this song is amazing
First 40 seconds: pop up trees, banjos, ponchos, wooden spoon hitting a watering can. I instantly loved it :)

I NEED DIS ON ITUNES
Digging the poncho/blankets. So much.
Oh, I love these guys. Bravo, Freelance Whales!
I know the Freelance Whales because of Chuck Criss' brother :) And him NOT from Glee, thank you very much! I'm a Freelance Whale fan and a Starkid for always!
@lolstefi In what scene did they play this song in?
Thanks!
does anyone know where i can find a tab for the banjo??
i really wanna play this song.
Currently obsessed with Weathervanes! Thanks FLW :)
For some reason this reminds me of the video for Phantom Limb by The Shins.
I dont care. i found this band through starbucks, and im so happy i did! i fucking LOVE Freelance Whales now.
love the masks and the ponchos, looks very cool
This song is amazing so looked up whales and it came up with band on youtube so I decided to cheak them out thank god I did they are awesome and probably my favourite band now
i have no clue who 'Darren' is i found these guys when i was listening to Lonely Forest! :)
@RicoRodriguezGrapple Haha, I couldn't quite put my finger on the genre of this music, but you got it!
@pete990 i dont think this is meant to be taken religiously, but interpret it how you want. the song seems to be about accepting death
Montaigne just had this on her 'soaring tunes' list with Zan Rowe (Triple J) and had a lovely take on this. The idea that life is long enough and it's been good. Gorgeous.
I found this when I was on someones blog and it was playing xD
@footsoildier66 you are so right. its exactly that, EXACTLY
Wait they were in a starbucks commercial? How come I didn't know about this until now?
Their best song, methinks.
Looked it up because Darren Criss always mentions his brother's band
can someone please tell me what this song is about?
it's like heaven for my ears. they need to tour england. preferably manchester. preferably now.
reminds me of childhood, really great
"Don't fix my smile, life is long enough, we will put this flesh into the ground again." Such a beautiful upbeat song/ablum, it took me a while to realize it's lyrics focus so much on death. I love happy sounding songs about sad subjects.
I used to listen to this before bed every night. It took me 10 years to find it again!
@DominicOllhoff Starbucks commercial??
Amazing song :D
@PlainSightt You don't even have to say "to me", that IS what the song is about. Additionally the album is about a boy falling in love with a ghost, so he certainly is ready to die.
@NeverShoutDinasour who cares how you found it this is great music!
Chuck has triangular eyebrows, too!
Did they play this on the UK version or the US version of SKINS??
These guys are amazing!
@lordofd2 ssweetie, skins have always used awesome songs even during the earlier series. :)
