- Many years ago…in a land far away…ok seriously in Guildford in the early ‘90s, when I was a wee bairn, I worked at Andertons Music Co. with, my now old friend, Lee Anderton. Anderton’s was Founded in 1964 by current Managing Director Lee Anderton’s Father and Grandfather, Andertons Music Co. has remained a family business for over half a century.
I got the chance to go back to Guildford, meet up with Lee and get a Music Store Tour, it was a blast. The Shop has grown dramatically, it’s like the Tardis, the same frontage but a huge amount of expansion behind.
Join me as we take a walk around Anderton’s and frankly reminisce!

Produce Like A Pro is a website that features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
Where did you start your musical journey? Where did it all begin for you? I got the chance to go back to Guildford, meet up with Lee and get a Music Store Tour, it was a blast. The Shop has grown dramatically, it’s like the Tardis, the same frontage but a huge amount of expansion behind! Join me as we take a walk around Anderton’s and frankly reminisce!
Funnily enough, back in 2001/2 I tried to get a job at Andertons as I was studying at the Academy of Contemporary Music. They just didn't have any vacancies at the time, so I ended up at Wetherspoons 😔😅
Great place to work!@@DazzleRebel They came and got me from another rival store! Haha
It started for me in the same place as you at Anderton's as I came from, just up the road from you in Church Crookham, Camberley. That was back in the 70's and it was the original, much smaller shop. I bought my first Fender Precision bass there and when I wasn't playing it I would sit and stare at its beauty. So glad the business survived and is clearly thriving. I spent many thousands of hard earned pounds in there over the years. I have good memories of a terrific manager there called John Hulk who would kindly let me take various bits of gear to try out and which I would always end up buying...can't see that happening nowadays.
Ah, I remember playing the Star a number of times and saw loads of other bands play there too. Fine memories of my short time living in Guildford.
Rainbow music in New York was the place. Dust in the wind. Just a memory now along with the fantastic record stores.
One of the best bits of this video was watching someone actually manage to get a parking space out front! Very rare occurrence. 😀
I didn’t!! Haha I parked down the street!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have managed it a few times. There’s often a space next to the cricket ground. Or Stoke Park if you are cheeky.
@@andsoistoppedI just parked on the street opposite. There’s a ton of parking down the street, obviously if you’re loading or unloading they can clear space for you
@@Producelikeapro most certainly. It’s funny as I grew up in Guildford but never shopped at Andertons as a kid. I used to cycle down to Nova Guitars and drool over their selection. Do you remember them? A unique and incredible shop. Of course I’ve since bought loads of stuff from Andertons now I live 3 hours away!!! 😂😂😂😂
I know of Nova in Bognor Regis, I wonder if it's the same company?@@andsoistopped
I loved how Warren and Lee hugged at the end and then both became really self concious, that was really sweet.
I would love to see Warren and Pete have a jam, I'm sure that the two of you would really bounce off each other.
Yes! Jamming with Pete would be a lot of fun!!
Watching Lee and Chappers bojanglin around with guitars and gear several years ago rekindled my love for making music. Seeing his progression as he learned to play guitar always lifted me up when I felt bored or frustrated with learning the instrument myself. Its so rad to find out you and Lee go back... you are both legends and when I make it, setting foot in Andertons to buy a couple random patrons the guitars of their dreams will be the first thing I do. 😅 Much love from the states. 💯🙏
Andertons is a great shop. Brilliant customer service and a huge range of stuff to choose from. I popped in a few weeks back and got me a new bass weapon. I had been to a competitor in Brighton the week before but their service and selection was so poor Andertons got my business. Thanks Andertons!
Awesome. I’ve been enjoying Lee and Danish Pete tour videos from their trip to the US. Now we get to see their digs.
I bought all of my guitars from Andertons since I moved in the UK.Great people and service
Great to hear!
I love the history. I've watched both of these channels and had no idea they even knew each other ler alone worked together. What a wonderful journey they've both had.. One staying home, and one going out into the wider world.
Remember it well. Born and raised in Guilford. Was in hayden place.
I've been there a couple times when I visited there from the states. Impeccable store with awesome employees.
That’s wonderful to hear
What a small world ! Andertons is the main place where I get my gear. To learn the history, Lee carrying on the family business and to find out you used to work there is crazy and cool 🙌🤙
Marvellous! Glad you enjoyed that! It was a blast
That wine red ‘70s reissue Les Paul Deluxe on the wall looks wonderful.
Agreed 100%!
Excellent video. Nice to see an in depth tour
20:54 into the video when you start shredding on the acoustic… you are the real deal Sir!
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much
It's nice to see The Paul get a thumbs-up. I've still got mine which I bought new in 1978 and it's never let me down.
Huge fan of my The Paul! Such a great guitar!
@@Producelikeaprovery expensive in Australia double your money exporting them 📈
only few people appreciate them.. limited market
Lovely piece
my first guitar was a spanish (classical) guitar my sister was given to learn it. Of course she didn't. A few years later I had the sudden urge to learn Yesterday on the guitar to impress a girl from school, who didn't understand what a musical (and in general) genius I would become . That would be 1988 ca. That girl would be 51 now, and I haven't shed a tear about her in 30+ years, but I still play the guitar!
Haha nice! Thanks for sharing
Even though I live in London, I pretty much buy most of my gear from these guys, instead of the over priced Denmark St places. Great video.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
No no no... in the 80's you would walk into a music shop, see a Roland Jupiter 8, and faint! 😎
Haha very true
?@@Producelikeapro 😎
Not long ago i bought a Korg Microkorg from Andertons Online & recently just bought a Yamaha Revstar from Andertons online and have never ever been to Mr Lees shop & really will never need to after seeing this intriguing video -just one word tho: flange 🥳
Flange! ‘Flang-uh’ or ‘E-Piff-Fan-knee’ ha

What a Nice Music Store !! Cheers from Canada!
Thanks Carlo!
Quite the store.
Yes, it certainly is!
I love the Captain! I hope to get to England one day and visit the place I have seen in UA-cam so many times.....
It's pretty darn awesome indeed!
make sure you check out the high street as well...we got cobbles and and an awesome clock:)@@Producelikeapro
@@drjazz7278I love Guildford! I know it very well! I was confirmed at Guildford Cathedral
Really enjoyed seeing you going back to your roots Warren. What an incredible journey in life you’ve had.
Ahhhhhh! This brought back such memories. Andertons was my local music store that I would visit whilst living in the Guildford area, when I first started playing back in the late 70s / early 80s (in a fairly well known local band); maybe you even sold me something Warren (drumsticks? Guitar picks? Strings? Who knows)? I've seen various iterations of the store layout since then. And I see it's changed yet again (e.g. drums downstairs now), so I must go re-visit sometime soon. Legendary!
Its changed a lot since I was last there... was last there some time in 2016/17....
Yes, continually evolving
That building is a labyrinth of fantastic. 🎸🎵🤠
As a uk resident I only use GAK or andertons..Last one I got from Lee was an LTD EC 1000 piezo in blue...awesome guitar.turned out it was the one chappers played in a DM, SD, EMG shootout.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
Every wedding I went to in the 1970’s and early 80’s had a live band for entertainment by the end of the 80’s it was a DJ we had neighborhood dances with bands there was so more opportunities for live bands
I bought my Gibson SG standard from Kingfisher in 1990. There was also Guitar Village in Farnham.
18:06 When they first came out with the S2 series, it was quite noticeable to me how much better the satin ones sounded over the high gloss.
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much for sharing!
This is awesome!!!
Thanks ever so much
In about 1983 I was at Lancaster uni. Me and my mates heard there was a real actual strat in a music shop in Preston! So we all piled in the car for a pilgrimage. Sure enough, there was a tired old strat (post CBS) in a shop, in a glass case. No touchy, no playey. Go away!
How times have changed!
Haha yes, how times have changed! Thanks for sharing!
Lee seems like such a wonderful guy. My bucket list includes a visit to Andertons someday.
Very cool indeed!
My favourite music shop, love browsing the synth section and occasionally going home with one !
Haha very nice!!
Thanks guys, I had a big smile on my face for the whole video
Thanks ever so much! It was alot of fun!
That was awesome from start to finish!
Thanks ever so much!
Great trip down memory lane. Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed it Joey
Absolutely amazing shop
We agree!
Great video good to see a tour round Anderson’s you should defo go back and make a part 2 of the offices and warehouse
What a huge store!!
How fun to see old friends and reminisce!
So much fun!
I kind of love both of your channels, great to see that you have an historic connection. Lovely !
Thanks ever so much!
As far as I am aware, there's nothing that size in the North West. Anderton's has a large amount of square footage whereas most in Manchester and Liverpool you can't even swing a cat! Why don't they open up another shop this neck of the woods? I think I speak for many when I say that we would go there very often...
This is properly lovely.
Well Warren, what a revelation, who knew, certainly not me! I visit Andertons a lot, it is my favourite store and I bought a bass from there for home recording in October. At Christmas I received your Home Recording book (which I am enjoying immensely) and I am putting your tips into practice using my guitars and the new bass in my own home studio. Thanks for the great video Warren and Lee! 😊
Thanks Warren and Andertons
Thanks ever so much
So cool to see you over there visiting ...
Yes it was! Great times
Absolutely love this. I started off my musical journey in the early 80's (at age 9) and the local family run music shop 'Normans' was an absolute mainstay of my life, Just like Andertons now. I have only bought 1 guitar elsewhere in the last 15 years of using Andertons. I still have some old mags With Kingfisher adverts from back in the early 90's.
Ace!! I'll get the wine open tonight and set aside 40 mins. Great (and different) walk-round idea!
Incredible..
Thanks ever so much
Big fan of both you and Andertons, it was a delight seeing this. Cheers Warren!
Much appreciated! Thanks ever so much!
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Ha! I was a regular visitor to Kingfisher and Andertons from the late 70s to present. There’s a good chance you served me. Ah, memories.
That’s amazing Andy!
I love captain! I miss chappers and captain reviews…I don’t even buy guitars, I just felt like I was hanging out with by buds

This store is gorgeous!
It certainly is!!
Wow this is an amazing video.
I'm going to watch it all again.
I was a muso way back in the late 60's

i bought my first bass and guitar from andertons 40 years ago from the original shop - as i remember it was on a road off the top of north street with a goth shop just opposite. old skool! never forgotten playing with a roland D50 when they first came out there too.
Great video Warren love Andertons. I didn't know you used to work in Kingfishers! As a local used to be in there all the time and bought my first Strat and 2nd hand 100W Marshall head in there. Remember Colin, Kathy and Eddie and Bob
It seems you"re doing marvelously well !
Haha yes, I certainly was
Great vid, mad that you used to work there 🤯. Also, the camera audio is good! 👍👍
Looking forward to visiting the shop in March during a trip to the UK and trying out a guitar or ten 😊
A lovely trip down memory lane, bought so much gear from them when I lived in Surrey. Taking the drive to Guildford was always filled with excitement. Thanks Warren.
Thanks ever so much for sharing Tony!
Despite being a 3 hour drive for me, i've visited Andertons loads of times and bought loads of kit from them. Great store!
you’re a legend dude , very lucky, very proud of you 👍🏻 you’ve made it ☝️📈🔭🐥
Awesome video!
Thanks ever so much Michael!
Great Video ! i have used their online shop quite few times within last few years and i been always very happy indeed ! :) as for Sire Marcus Miller basses - Highly Recommended - i got 2 J basses -V7 Vintige and V5 5 string 24 frets both from Andertons and i love them so much. Best basses out there within this price range . I sold my Fender bass as i stop playing it after o got Sire .. greetings from Scotland ✌♥🎵
Andertons is for others what Rockshop in Karlsruhe (Germany) is to me. I got great support, was even mentored, could record my first 8 track demo tape which was sold in Europe and Japan, back in 1987. There is a bond to your local shops that is beyond anything I can express. So, I really enjoyed this vid!
I vividly remember saving up for a Roland JV-1080 back in 1996. I ordered it over the phone and I was amazed when the guy at Andertons offered to deliver it in person to me in Windsor (nearly an hour away), as it was kind of on the way home for him! Could it have been you, Warren? Ha! Now I live in Guildford, I can tell you the customer service is still second to none.
I was already I the US, left Oct '95
Warren you are a beast of a guitar player!
You’re very kind!
I spent a good deal of the mid to late 90s going into Kingfishers in Fleet and noodling on their guitars. I lived in Fleet and could walk to it. I got my first guitar from Guitar Village in Farnham which is now my local. But I did buy a good amount from Kingfishers over the years. Very sad that they're no longer in business. I knew you were a local lad so it makes sense that you worked in both locations.
That’s wonderful to hear! Where in Fleet did you live?
Great video Warren. I bought my Sire bass guitar from that shop just before covid in Feb 2020. I can't believe you used to work there!
Good choice! It was a great place to work
Saving up some money then looking to go to andertons in a few months and looking to get a guitars, the shop looks amazing
Saw so many amazing bands in Guildford during the 70s, good local music scene and bigger gigs at Surrey Univ and the Civic Hall. Most memorable for me were Roxy Music, Caravan, Genesis and Camel
KGM sound control in Leeds was mental on a Saturday ..hehe ..virtuoso drumming from a 12 year old...Big love ...great video..i've bought a few odds and sods off Anderton's.
Without trying to be too "sycophantic", Andertons for me has always been the best shop since i started getting kit in the 90's (may have even been served by Warren when i got my original fostex R8! and desk.. I did my bucket list experience of buying my custom shop 60's strat from the 'back room' with Paul last year and will never forget it - the guys couldnt do enough to help and make everyone feel comfortable - keep it up @andertons , you are the best!
Demo Booths. That’s brilliant. Anderton‘s success is so well deserved.
Yes! Very smart
Oh what a fantastic video, but I wish it was another hour longer. So good. I have never flown out of my state of NSW in Australia and have been trying to find a reason to go international but can't find one. I've been watching Andertons youtube for a couple of years now, and now I know where to go. I WILL go to Guildford, England just to see your shop, but I'll have to know what days Lee and Pete are in. Honestly. Oh, I will buy something 😊
Hilarious that you had that connection.
I still use Andertons, they are great! 🙂
Thats' awesome to hear Chris!
I remember Kingfisher music. I bought my first Strat there in 1993. I'm left handed and they had loads more left handed guitars than anywhere else I knew. I didn't discover Andertons until years later but have bought an embarrassingly large amount of things from them since.
Always went to Kingfishers in Fleet, always wondered what happened to that place.
Nice one Warren, really great vibe between you guys, not stepping on each other but putting a lot of valuable information out. I would be interested in you doing Musicstore in Köln too as a European comparison. Live PA room and Mic Rooms are pretty cool there. Cheers 😊
That sounds great! Yes, Lee is so much fun to hang out with
Wow, that was a nice vid!
Thanks ever so much
Found Andertons after moving to England some 20 years ago & their service and customer atention have always been great! Truly like no other music shop. Then found PLAPA and all my musical needs became 100% supported!! 🎉
That's marvellous! Thanks ever so much for the support! I really appreciate it
I bought my 78 Precision & 77 Jazz from Kingfishers in Fleet & well remember Nova & Antertons from the early/mid 80's!!...
Oh no way, you worked at Andertons? That's cool!
Yes!! Great times
