@@CanadianTShirt hey buddy, love the videos. I have a question for you if you wouldnt mind. Last little sub question... can you write off purchases of exquipment off kajiji.. like a computer or microphone etc. Thanks so much
In 15 minutes you've taught us more about understanding our taxes than we've learned in our entire time in school....and the following 15 working years after that. 15 Minutes! That is an insane amount of value. Also it can be hard to find really good Canadian Content. Not impossible....but it takes a bit more effort. So thanks for showing up for us!!!
Wow! Thank you Amanda for those kind words! I really appreciate that! 🙏 But I totally agree.... there is NO excuse why these basics are not taught in high school.... =(

“in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes” - tax is such an important topic yet most of us were never taught about it in school properly. Thank you for explaining this huge topic in an easy to understand way! 👍
You got that right my friend! I know taxes aren't sexy or exciting to talk about but it is SO important to understand how they work! If you want to win at a game, you have to know the rules =)
Thanks Vinh! I totally agree! There's no excuse why they don't teach the basics of personal finances and taxes in the high school curriculum.... they're setting these kids up to be eaten alive with credit card debt and penalties... =(
If they made this a high school course, then too many students would learn on how NOT to pay more tax. The gov. would loose out on all that extra loot from the students over time. Keep the people stupid !
I don't know how you do it, but you are the only person in the world that can make a video on taxes and make it exciting. I went through almost all your videos. Thanks for your great work.

Thanks for the video. To my understanding, opening business is the best way to avoid taxes. You don't have lots of deduction options on your stock market investment except for TFSA and RRSP
Exactly! With a TFSA and RRSP and even with an RESP if you have children, your investments can grow tax free, but there are still certain rules to follow which I'll talk about in my next video. such as keeping ONLY Canadian equity in your TFSA and putting US and foreign equity in your RRSP to avoid withholding taxes
That's what I love to hear! The finance world is really scary since most people are never taught these things! But if you take the time to learn about taxes and investing, you'll find that it's not that bad at all =)
Thank you! I'll be making a whole series of videos on starting a side business, probably in the next two weeks. I'm glad to hear that people are interested in entrepreneurial content!
@@CanadianTShirt for sure. And I love your presentation style too. Really helps. One thing that you might want to cover is how do you pay yourself when you have your own side business. Do you just transfer money from business to personal account? Is there some kind of payroll process required? If you have a partner does it make things exponentially more challenging?
@@whidzee Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad someone likes my style and excellent question! In my experience, all of my side businesses have been self-employed, sole proprietorships so I've never had employees or partners. All of the income that I gained was mine, through contract work or rent through my real-estate business
@@whidzee If you are an incorporated business, you will have to set up a payroll account with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and you can either pay yourself with a salary or with dividends. I haven't personally done this so I don't want to make a video on this until I get there myself
Wow! I'm so happy that this video was helpful but at the same time, it makes me sad that no one ever taught you how Canadian taxes work! They really should teach this stuff in high school!
Wow! thank you so much for those kind words! I really appreciate that! And yes, start off 2022 on the right foot! Get your finances in order and take charge of your financial future! 😁
Great topic, really needed a refresher on how taxes work and how to lower them. Will you eventually do a video on how to file taxes and what software is best to use?
You read my mind! Yes I will do a walkthrough of how to file your own taxes using Turbotax, but any tax software should work very similarly. I'll do one video solely on employment income and I'll do another one involving business income. Thanks for the suggestion! =)
@@CanadianTShirt Bill them for your time. And they won’t come back. Charge them the same they claim you owe. Not joking. Ask an agent IF they ever approach you to discuss ‘your file’. Have a nice day.
As a retired Chartered Financial Planner I must commend your clear cut explanations. In my opinion however you might consider a change to your priorities a bit. In my experience an over all successful primary objective to savings should be " Reduce your taxes FIRST - do all the other cool stuff you want to do with your money second". We all need to save, we do not need to spin our wheels in the process.( net of taxes)
This is a question I had to discover for myself. After extensive research and speaking with CRA, the answer is no. The income from UA-cam will be zero-rated for HST since Google (UA-cam) is not registered for HST in Canada
@@CanadianTShirt Awesome! Thanks for your help. I spoke with two accountants earlier this week but they have no clue what UA-cam is... they are both 70+ years old lol
did you know that youre a legend? those videos are so helpful. tax credit: everyone benefit equal, dont depend on salary. Tax deduction: benefit increases with higher income.
I can't do your taxes for you but I will be making DOZENS of Canadian tax videos including a step by step guide on how to file your taxes so I hope those will be helpful! =)
As someone who knew next to nothing about taxes, this video was great for me and I admire how you simplify it as well the effort you put into your videos! Will def be reccomending ur video to fam/friends.
Thank you so much for those kind words! That's what I try to do! Breaking down complex topics into bite-sized lessons! And thank you so much for spreading the word! As a UA-camr, that is the BEST compliment I can receive! 🙏

Young Canadians: OK so how do taxes work exactly?? Canada's Public Education System, a government-funded institution: The Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. a^2+b^2=c^2. Loyalist soldiers burned down the White House in the War of 1812. Adrian, a man giving us this information for free on the internet out of the kindness of his own heart: Ok so here's how it works-
Business expenses can only be claimed to reduce taxes on business income, it won't be able to reduce your full-time job. For example, if I just start a side business and I don't make a profit (my expenses exceed my income) I won't pay any taxes on my business income since I have a net loss. I can NOT use this loss to reduce the taxes I pay on my full-time employment BUT what I can do is carry that loss forward to a future year when my business is profitable and then I can reduce the taxes I pay on that future business income. I hope that helps =)
@@CanadianTShirt Very helpful. Thank you! I really appreciate how you take out time to respond to most questions. I know it takes a lot of effort from your end - I'm sure these genuine efforts will pay off big time. All the best, you're awesome!
@@CanadianTShirt It is very tricky. if you have a full time job and also self employed, the income comes from self employed will be added on your income comes from your full time job. 55k a year and your side business made 1k a year in total you made 56k a year and you will be taxed based on 56k, am I right? if your side business didn't make any profit but you cannot transfer any loss to full time income. that means you cannot even expense home office expenses like rent. is that correct?
Wow, thank you so much! I am so glad to have found your channel. I have learned so much in just the first 2 videos I have watched! Keep them coming, much appreciated.
That's what I LOVE to hear!!! I WISH I had taken an interest to finances and investing when I was 16! Instead, I was spending my time playing Diablo 2 and Halo 😆 Way to go buddy! 🔥
Canadian in a T-Shirt Canadian in a T-Shirt what do you think I should be doing if I wanted to get into online business such as digital marketing , being an entrepreneur for a career instead of working for people and getting a full time job and all that. I want to retire as soon as I can😂 My parents own a family business should I help them? Honestly what’s your best advise at my age right now to become successful and what should I know. I also am going to be a future artist. And I also live in British Columbia.
It can definitely hurt.... especially if you are relying solely on your full time job for income! That's why it's important to learn ways to reduce your tax bill, legally of course! =)

Thanks for this, very well articulated. I had a couple of questions regarding taxes for small business in Canada. (Do not have a full-time job). 1. What is the stipulated financial year for small business ? (Jan to Dec or Apr to Mar) 2. What is the federal and provincial tax brackets for small business ? 3. List of things I can publish as business incomes in order to reduce my small business taxes ? (Eg :- Travel, Restaurant bills, Fuel, etc) Thanks in advance.
Thank you Angel and I absolutely agree! There is no excuse why this isn't taught in high schools but I know that some curriculums are starting to introduce it =)

Love the content! I've watched about 3 of your videos so far and have been taking plenty of notes. Nobody has taught me about this stuff before and I'm extremely grateful for you uploading this content. One note, I think the number at 11:18 ($1,025) is supposed to be $1,002.50. I don't mean to nit pick but I'm very reliant on details for me to learn things and I got stuck on that one for a minute and was checking my math over and over ahah. Thanks so much!

I was freaking out about being financially illiterate, but this video is helping calm my nerves
That's what I love to hear! The finance world is really scary since most people are never taught these things! But if you take the time to learn about taxes and investing, you'll find that it's not that bad at all =)
Great video. I'm especially looking forward to the video you teased about starting a side business.
This video is the most I have ever learned about taxes and income in my entire life....
Wow! I'm so happy that this video was helpful but at the same time, it makes me sad that no one ever taught you how Canadian taxes work! They really should teach this stuff in high school!
You’re a life saver I wish they teach this in college
Thank you Jessica! I really appreciate that! 🙏
Dude thank you so much, its so confusing to start a business in Canada. That tutorial series would be a GOLDMINE !
You got it buddy! There's a LOT to talk about so it will definitely be a whole series of videos! =)
Great videos! straight to the point, explained everything. Your channel is a gold mine of information. keep up the great work
Thanks man! Let's keep it going into 2020! =)
As a new comer, I have understood the basic structures of the taxation in Canada. Thank you
I'm so happy to hear that my video was helpful! And welcome to Canada! 🇨🇦
You got yourself a new sub. This is so simple that it’s amazing.
Thank you Neemah! I'm glad I was able to explain it clearly! =)
Thank you that was on point, I'm going into 2022 as a brand new man after this, truly inspiring ! People like you are God given
Wow! thank you so much for those kind words!
I'm a prospective immigrant doing research on how much I'd be "loosing" to taxes over there. This certainly helps. Thank you.
Thanks Oscar! Taxes are definitely high here but we do get a lot of social services out of it! I hope you decide to move here! 🇨🇦
Great video again, simple and very clear!!
Thank you for the kind words! Happy new year! =)
Yes!!
Thanks for the crystal clear explanations in this video (and all your other ones). I almost always click the "thumbs up" before your videos are done.
Thanks Ron! I really appreciate that support, it really helps me build this channel on UA-cam! =)
15 minutes holy cow. Nice job!
I have yet to make a video under 10 minutes... I really should try to maker shorter ones. Thanks buddy! =)
@@CanadianTShirt No, no, if anything make them longer! 😉
@@CanadianTShirt Wait a second you said being an engineer is not worth it at 8:53! Time to dislike :P
@@jefflight3329 A silly engineer relying SOLELY on his paycheck is not worth it. A clever engineer like you also gains income through investing =)
@@jefflight3329 Good save? 😋
Not about how much money you make, but it's about the money you KEEP! I JUST read this in Tony Robbins' Unshakeable book, too. Love to see this
You got it! It's one of the most important philosophies I live by! =)
Back in high-school I had a teacher who went rogue and decided to teach us about taxes... he got in trouble
hahaha and then he went on to start a UA-cam channel? 😆
But I hear you man... there's no excuse why this isn't taught in high school...
I learned in 10 minutes what I tried to learn from CSI books for weeks..
Thanks Victor! That's what I try to do and I'm so glad that you found so much value in this video =)
I bet the 17 dislikes came from Rev Can employees.
hahaha I hope they don't "randomly" select me for an audit this year 😅
Lmao I agree
Can u cover RDSP?
@@CanadianTShirt Bill them for your time. And they won’t come back. Charge them the same they claim you owe. Not joking. Ask an agent IF they ever approach you to discuss ‘your file’. Have a nice day.
Hahaha I'm telling you ! it is certainly Rev Canada
Random question... do Canadians need to pay GST on UA-cam income?
This is a question I had to discover for myself. After extensive research and speaking with CRA, the answer is no. The income from UA-cam will be zero-rated for HST since Google (UA-cam) is not registered for HST in Canada
@@CanadianTShirt Awesome! Thanks for your help. I spoke with two accountants earlier this week but they have no clue what UA-cam is... they are both 70+ years old lol
@@CanadianTShirt one more question, do you know if we need a NAICS code?
For someone like me planning to move to Canada this content is the best I've seen. Subscribed!!!
Thank you Terence! I really appreciate those kind words and welcome to Canada very soon! 🇨🇦
woot been waiting for this!
Thanks man! I hope it helped clear things up! =)
did you know that youre a legend? those videos are so helpful.
tax credit: everyone benefit equal, dont depend on salary. Tax deduction: benefit increases with higher income.
Awww shucks.... thanks buddy! I'm really happy to hear that these videos have been helpful! =)
I should get you to do my TAX. Damn! this is more stressful than to run a business.
wow i learned a lot thanks! i wish school taught me these things
Thanks buddy! I'm happy to hear that my video was helpful and I couldn't agree more! There's no excuse why the basics of taxes and finances are NOT taught in high school..... =(
Thank you so much for being one of the few Canadians that are explaining how our taxes work very thoroughly! This video was amazing. So hard to come by information about this for us in Canada

I think I learnt more about Canadian taxes in this short video than all my classes during college and university combined...this shows that you don’t need a degree to be smart and knowledgeable 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks buddy! I really appreciate that and I'm glad that my video was able to help! 😁
OMG!!!! Finally Canadian financial info that is well explained and presented. Thank you soooo much. Best educational 15 mins of my life (more like 45 mins by rewinding to let the info sink in). 🤓🤩🤩🤓

Young Canadians: OK so how do taxes work exactly??
Canada's Public Education System, a government-funded institution: The Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. a^2+b^2=c^2. Loyalist soldiers burned down the White House in the War of 1812.

hahaha thanks Madison! That made my day! 🤣
Thank you I just shared with my 3 sons whom are keen on business and investing. Your very clear and to the point. Exceptional explanations. Thank you
Thank you so much Craig and I hope your sons also found value in my videos! =)
Can I claim business expenses on income made from a full-time job (and not a side business)?

Taxation is criminal
It can definitely hurt.... especially if you are relying solely on your full time job for income! That's why it's important to learn ways to reduce your tax bill, legally of course! =)

I had a couple of questions regarding taxes for small business in Canada. (Do not have a full-time job).
1. What is the stipulated financial year for small business ? (Jan to Dec or Apr to Mar)
2. What is the federal and provincial tax brackets for small business ?
3. List of things I can publish as business incomes in order to reduce my small business taxes ? (Eg :- Travel, Restaurant bills, Fuel, etc)
Thanks in advance.
