The noise you describe when the signal is fading, is, fortunately, mostly salt and pepper noise. It can be easily and reliably reduced (a lot!) with a 3x3 median filter(e.g., medfilt2() in each RGB channel in matlab). The results are quite amazing, considering this is post processing. Great video and work.
Really interesting video, and really helped me start to understand this topic, thanks for taking the time and going through the effort of putting this together.
It works more or less the same way. APT is 2 lines per second, 2048 pixels per line, 8 bits per pixel, so the equivalent digital rate would be around 33kbps. With doppler shift and the extra FM bandwidth you want a rate that's also around double that so anything above 60ksps should work

Hi Derek, great series of videos! Are there any satellites transmitting LRPT currently?
Meteor-M N2-3 does currently, see one of my latest videos about it, make sure to look up recent information as its frequency can change sometimes
@@dereksgc great, thank you! I was inspired by you to dust my RTL SDR and get some images from weather satellites 💪🏻
Hello, do you know if Metop is still transmitting HRPT?
I am just now getting into satellite reception, and your content has been invaluable so far.
Thank you!

Ok now seriously i really love your content thank you
Is it just the HRPT that has this double sided bandwidth? All others, LRPT, LRIT, HRIT don’t.
Only NOAA and Meteor HRPT, MetOp HRPT is more similar to the ones you listed
Does sample rate or bandwidth effect analog signal (like noaa apt)? In my expirience no. But meaby I was doing sometning wrong all time.

Hey first coment
Please make video on making cantenna lnb for Elektro L3 Russian geo stationary weather sat. (L-BAND)
Elektro LRIT/HRIT needs helical antenna instead, that is also what the next video will be about
@@dereksgc so cantenna will not work in that case??
@@IOTConnect Cantenna will work but helix will have couple more dB SNR on the same size dish antenna. Also helix is easier to build
"NOAA" is pronoounced "Noah"
