- Welcome to Our Star Ocean Retrospective and Story Analysis. Star Ocean is the very first entry in the long running Tri-Ace series. One of the few RPG’s to take place in outer space. Star Ocean was first released on the Super Nintendo where it would be stuck until Square Enix released the PSP Remake Star Ocean First Departure. We will be taking a look at Star Ocean First Departure R for this Review. As with all of my other reviews this will also serve a A Star Ocean Story Analysis as well as a review. Join me as we take a look back at this fun and ambitious game to see how it holds up. Let's see how well the story holds up in this Star Ocean Story Recap.

The first Star Ocean game I played was the Second Story on PS1. It was the first game I played with a crafting system like that. The story was also epic with a pretty good twist in the middle. I played that game multiple times and loved it. I played First Departure on the PSP when it came out. I beat the game and enjoyed it but didn’t find the characters and story to be as engaging as Second Story. Great retrospective, keep up the great work!
I'd like to think the the first game set the ground root for what was to come while second story perfected it characters and story. Ronyx Ilia Millie and Roddick are really likable characters though imo.

This is the first time watching. Recently I played star ocean first departure r on my switch and star Ocean second story r on ps5. My first star ocean was the divine force on my ps5 when it first came out. May I say this is a good video and holy crap your party setup is the same as mine.

Hey its been awhile! I hope all is good and glad to see your most recent video is on Star Ocean. I love the franchise and hopefully SE will get serious about supporting Tri-Ace and SO after the release of SO2R (which looks to be very promising both sales and reception wise). I really enjoyed The Divine Force, I just hope we keep getting SO games from Tri-Ace.
I really like how they genre clash Sci-Fi and High Fantasy, it is really unique. Also for an action J-rpg series it really doesn't hand hold, there is a strong relience on abilities (especially passives) and skills (item creation). I think 3-5 have issues with micro-managing party memebers in combat but I had no issues with it in SO6. Overall, I think SO respects its players knowledge of rpg systems and is a more core experience for J-rpg fans compared to say the most recent FF entry.
I still remember the first time True Figure played in SOFD, everything was relatively tame before then but once Sakuraba's synth keys start going off its starts getting crazy, a point of no return. Good times on a real PSP.
It enjoy the star Ocean games, I'm going to pick up the series again when second story r drops an review the rest of the games
Tales of phantasia uses the concepts of futuristic technology, magic, time travel and aliens before Star Ocean, also many games of the franchise uses the concept of the second planet with more advanced technology.
I wish I started the series with the first one, I started with SO5, which made me not touch the series until SO6, which practically made me play SO1R on PS4 and I loved the game. I do want to play the original SNES version at some point, but the fact that most of the ideas in 1R were in the first game goes to show how cool it was back then. I just finished 2R and now I’m on to 3… wish me luck 😂

Pretty rough around the edges, but the gameplay is fun, music’s good, story’s good, just a super solid ass game 👍🏻 it’s next to 2R for me personally as someone who didn’t play these games until last year 😂 i hope you enjoy SO6 when you get to it, i’ll be looking forward to your SO videos 🙏🏻

Worth it. I'd say personally the worst is Integrity and Faithlessness.
Btw How is the Divine Force it's the only I haven't played but I've been saving it for this occasion to cover it on the channel.

Well to be fair it's a series I've wanted to cover for some time. The announcement of the remake came after I'd decided to do it and started playing the first game. It was actually The release of The Divine Force that made me want to do it. The only entry I haven't played yet.
I just the series doesn't have a major spike in difficulty.
Man need to stop watching this video, story looks so interesting! I am just going to play it. Will continue the video once I beat it.

@@GamingWithSpoons I am a good ways into 2nd story R. Figured I look up the first game for some context. Love the idea of a planet thinking we (humans) were gods because of technology.

Speaking of viruses, it may man viruses they actually were trying to do this to the black population, which is also why there’s a huge struggle for Africa and its resources.
