As much I love the Bumblebee movie, this still sickened me because this is Peter Cullen. The legendary voice of Optimus Prime. He deserved treated better. Peter Cullen is my all time favourite voice actor of all time. They better treated Peter Cullen better in the next Transformers movie if they decided to voiced Optimus Prime properly.

How can you not have Cullen voice Prime? He is the Optimus Prime! I don’t even know who could even replace him.
They probably think he's just disposable because he's just a voice actor, which is insulting to me as a consumer of his art, let alone to him as a working professional.

Man as much as I love the Bumblebee movie this really sickens me as well just over all disgust me on how bad this amazing iconic voice actor Peter the man himself was/is treated. I was wondering why Jon Baily was doing the voice for Optimus during the promotion for the film and I just thought he wanted to do the voice for Optimus Prime again as a little fun gag, but no they just treated Peter like dirt and I'm tired of these big studios doing this to many iconic actors and voice actors. I really hope Hasbro and Paramount get their act together and start becoming a company with good treatment. Wouldn't be surprised if Lorenzo was the one behind this nonsense.

I think the takeaway here is that it was bad practice to bring peter on after already having another actor do the voice. Not to say anything bad towards Jon Bailey. Paramount and Rooster Teeth just don’t have or want to pay him because he’s unionised
Shouldn't Netflix or Hasbro have the final say in the show? At least that stunt wasn't pulled as the movie did.
Darth Night Killer Netflix is just the distribution platform they don’t hire the VAs for siege that’s by Rooster Teeth, Hasbro in this instance should have stepped in with RT to provide the talent and more than likely (speculation here) brought in the VA for prime from cyberverse as he may have been more cost effective than Peter.

The difference between Cullen's Optimus' over all these years and all the imitations all comes down to the inflictions he can convey.
His Optimus can get angry, happy, neutral, destructive, nurturing, dad-like ect ect.
When his Optimus gets angry, that visceral growl and roar he does is unmatched. Particularly his work on TFP and it's fight scenes.
Here’s my takeaway from this. I’m torn. On the one hand, I think Peter having to mimic Jon wasn’t a good idea. But we shouldn’t blame this on Travis Knight, because maybe he wanted Peter to go full blown prime and I guess he wasn’t able to do that considering the budget. Also those cybertron scenes were added in during reshoots. Not only did they have to spend the money on the special effects, but they had to pay everyone else i.e. John Cena, Haylee Steinfeld, etc. and I’d say the same for Jake Tillman, because like you said with Jon Bailey, it’s not his fault. He was just doing his job and we shouldn’t blame him for it. Besides he’s still very young, he’ll improve. And I think Peter Cullen. Frank welker and hasbro have made piece since they both are going to be in a panel at pulsecon.
I still think that this is Travis Knights fault. He could have at least tried to respect him a bit better, maybe apologise is he didn't agree with it and explain why and I would understand him.
Roberto Perez maybe he did apologize and explained it to him. Besides, he’s a fan of transformers. He respects these characters and actors. We should also note that we weren’t there when this happened, so it’s hard to tell who said what and who’s to blame.

Khoa Dao in the original cut of the film Peter Cullen was still in there. In the original cut he was just an Optimus prime hologram.

No offence, Jon Baileys Optimus isn’t good. He tries to imitate Peter Cullens voice and just does not do it well. He tries to be to deep and doesn’t have that slight growl in his voice like Cullen does. Don’t get me wrong, he does many other voices very very well, he just can’t do Prime. And now hearing and watching this video, it upsets me to know how they treated Peter. Telling him to mimic someone else who is mimicking him, whom doesn’t do Optimus’ voice justice hurts. Peter should and is the one true voice of Optimus Prime.

This movie had a tighter budget. Peter Cullen probably costs a fortune as he's probably one of the biggest voice actors out there, so they probably thought we'll give the other guy a chance and we'll just pay Peter Cullen for one day to cut costs. Simple as that. Objectively I can't tell that the Prime voice is out of sync with his mask moving either. Just as in sync as the original cartoon. What we get is a more younger sounding 80s G1 Optimus Prime.

Peter has said that his brother was kind of his inspiration for Prime’s voice and character, so it makes sense that Peter would care about how Optimus sounds and acts. His brother was in the military I believe and before he went to audition for the part his brother asked what character he was auditioning for. Peter said, “Well I’m playing a truck.” His brother said, “A truck?” And Peter said, “Yeah but he’s a hero, he’s a hero truck.” And his brother calmly responded, “Peter, if you’re gonna be a hero, be strong enough to be gentle.” And Peter has said that has really stuck with him his entire life. And his brother’s voice and words were how he found the sound for Optimus.
As an armature voice actor, and long time fan of Peter Cullen, and O-Prime, yeah, I couldn't help but feel like there was no gravitas to what he was saying. The pacing we had grown accustomed to in the previous live action movies, when it came to his speech patterns were gone. Everything he said felt like he was trying to hurry up and say it. Didn't know this was the case though, damn. Cheep bastards.
This was at GalaxyCon Richmond 2020 last year. My best friend and I were in the audience for this panel. We had a photo op with Cullen and Welker after the panel. It was great.

Union-busting. Peter Cullen is part of an actor's union, and thus if they hired him they would have to abide by practices that ensure his rights as an actor are fully protected lest they face legal action. No one on Hasbro or Paramount's end wants to deal with that nor the prices that his work would entail, so they just hire other people instead and aggressively pretend it's not happening.

I think they’ll keep Jake Foushee. Especially since this show has a smaller budget (although I think they’ll have a bigger budget this time but who knows). Maybe Jake will see the criticisms and he’ll improve.

I literally just rewatched Bumblebee for the first time a couple days ago, and I honestly noticed something was weird about Ops voice then.

Now THIS video kind of sickens me as well. I know Jon, him and I worked together and talked often in our early days a ton. We would talk about projects we'd wanna work on together, or what we were up too, or just goofing around. Jon does a good Optimus Prime, he does a lot of good voices for various characters and a lot of you know that. But Peter has met Jon before, Jon even did his impression of Optimus FOR Peter at a Botcon and Peter was blown away.
Now in films, when you're doing these kind of movies, you gotta model off of someone, and if you got somebody who can do a decent job you can model off t hat person. Peter has done multiple TF projects since 07 now, live action, animated, you name it. His price for being in such a small role for a film might of been to high to use for the number of months it was taking to do the animation, we don't know. But it is NOT uncommon in the industry to work this way. Peter even did it when he started working on the Bayformer projects voicing Ironhide and he wasn't even going to be the character.
They treat celebrities who can't even speak properly and have no acting knowledge better then actual voice actord

In all honesty, I liked the voice of Optimus in The Bumblebee movie. I may not like the way Peter was treated, but the voice was interesting to say the least. It sounds like what a Cybertronian would sound like on another world, instead of their home world. But this is just my opinion.

I've always felt that something is off about optimuses voice in this movie.
While Bumblebee is still one of my favourite movies, I have to agree that the way Peter Cullen was treated was wrong on so many levels. I hope he never has to go through that again during the production of future Transformers movies and TV series. I also hope other actors and voice actors who bring the Transformers characters to life don't experience the same thing too.
I doubt anyone actually told Peter to impersonate Jon's Prime. I think he just felt that way after hearing how good Jon sounded. Also, scratch tracking is common. Why pay $50,000 for a clip that will be tossed? They used Jon's Prime simply as a place holder.

Considering the Producer is usually the one who makes these decisions and the top billed Producer was Lorenzo Di Bonaventura I'm not surprised. That dude really couldn't give a damn about the franchise outside of the money. He's the one who said a Prime movie had no potential and couldn't be done.
Just rewatched the scenes were optimus speaks. On the surface it sounds like Prime, but It amazes me how much off it truely is. It truely is the difference between what gives a character the soul and the weight, and in teh way Peter critisizes his colleague, it truely shows the mastery he has in his craft, an the deep understanding of what makes this character. The tempo is off, Primes slower way of talking gives him both more strength and seriousness. Amazing how a voice can enhance the charactertraits.
Having John Bailey (I pretty good voice actor) trying to replace Peter Cullen is one thing. Having Peter come in and try to mimic John mimicking Peter is kind of insulting to both actors.
Peter Cullen has always been and will always be Optimus Prime's best voice.
I hope one day peter and Garry could do prime and primal together on the big screen.

I was shocked that Peter and Frank weren’t in the Netflix series. It was like imposter Optimus and Megatron.

The way I see it. Either Hire Peter to do Optimus' voice or dont. I can understand if they asked Peter to coach the voice actor to do Primes voice because you want to give Prime a different voice like in most of the cartoons when Peter wasnt used

I actually always loved the bayformers optimus a lot
It is going to be a really sad day when Peter Cullen eventually leaves this world (I know he's getting older, but hopefully that will still be a long, long time from now).
If it wasn't for Cullen transformers wouldn't be were it is now it would've probably been forgotten his voice is just as iconic as the brand itself hes like the stan Lee of transformers

i think your wrong about this he said they animated it to the other VA's timing the fact that they did a double-take and asked peter to voice boss bot proves there wasn't any disrespect when it comes with the director now that's not saying there wasn't any off-screen modeling by the studio they could have not paid peter but saying the staff was disrespecting peter is bull since studio and filming are completely different

Having *3* Alternate movie universe all with different stories but the same characters might be confusing for some people, imagine having all those spiderman films all airing at the same time

I love Bumblebee, but this is just disgusting. I want actors not just do a good role, but also really enjoy what they're doing. Paramount and Travis really acted like dicks of what they did to Peter, such cruelty.
I don't think Travis had anything to do with it. I wouldn' be surprised if Lorenzo Di Boneventura had anything to do with it.

Yeah you are right. Bay Prime should have just politely asked the Decepticons to stop killing and destroying everything and hope for the best. And he certainly should have kept defending the race of humans that willfully enabled the slaughter of almost all the autobots in his charge.

Aside from Gary Chalk, I’ve never liked different voices for Optimus and I can’t believe they’d disrespect Peter like that. That really sucks.
