My 3 best friends and I asked our teacher to write a cheque so we could buy tickets to see The Who at The Hammersmith in 1975. We sent the payment in the 5:15 post (an omen). On the day (we bunked school) we saw Tommy The Movie at Leicester Square (my mate insists to this day he saw Kieth Moon in the loos) in the afternoon and The Who live in the evening. We hitch-hiked back from London to Coventry that night with some incredible people who took pity on 4 schoolboys who had obviously not thought things through and didn't care. An amazing day.

What a milestone in music! Keith will always be my favorite drummer cause he was so different from every drummer before and since! Plus he was part clown part pure rock star! Great song on a perfect album!
i remember blasting this on my blaster at the age of 15 passing by peoples houses at midnight hoping they would get it when they woke up,i hated my old man and hated my life and hated the mcewans i drank earlier, all my friends and family where scum the earth was doomed and stood for nothing anyway, now im happily married with childs,i wouldnt change nothing, love life!,its great!x
The Who? Well let's see. First band to effectively use volume for other than just being loud; Invented Heavy Metal (best illustrated on "My Generation," on Live at Leeds); Demonstrated that a great rock opera was feasible (if written by a genius). What could they do for an encore. What could they do next? How about, *Who's Next*, which opens with Baba O'Riley, then Bargain, Love Ain't For Keeping', My Wife, The Song is Over, Getting' in Tune, Going Mobile, and Behind Blue Eyes. Man, that's one of the greatest rock albums ever made. Oh, then add "Won't Get Fooled Again," as the closer and what have you got?
All of those bands are still writing and performing today, and arctic monkeys have 5 of the most consistently brilliant albums under their belt, and pearl jam and the strokes ushered in a new generation of music. all of these guys are going down in history as legends. they dont do bad songs
Who's Next was a great album, and you knew it was something special when it started with this song. Still one of my top five favorite albums of all time.

Why is this song called Baba O'Riley?
+carultch The song was dedicated to Pete Townsend's idol Meher Baba who was a spiritualist.
It is “I ‘FARM’ for my meals.” Look at the context, the next line, and listen to the words.

Pete got in about 1 chord on his guitar for every dozen notes that John got on the bass. Roger could only yell at the top of his voice to be heard. Great show though.
I saw them in Germany on the "Who by numbers" tour. Pete totally was the stand out! The others were great too! you must be a drummer or base player! haha!
that must have been a fun night. where was this show?.. moon was an awesome drummer
Friedrich Ebert Halle. Ludwigshaven, West Germany. A night to remember. 20+ minute encore of a mini Tommy/My Generation mix. First laser show I ever saw. "I get the gloreeeeeeeee!!!......" In my head for weeks. Haha!
cool.. i watched them when at woodstock on dvd last night and entwhistle on summer blues...goota tell ya son but you to young to vote, or whatever he says...i was like wow and roger all in frilles and pete jumping around and then he threw his guitar into the crowd after the finished their set, to cool. check it out on the directors cut dvd..lots of added footage, to cool.
The Who at their mighty best.

London 1974 ,standing in a shopway far from home ,listening to this classic!!!!Great then even better now!!
Thanks vets! Happy weekend and Memorial Day remembering our fallen. RS, I just read your new book CIB 1969 where you referred to this song. It made my skin tingle as did the rest of your story. Teenage wasteland as it was. Jimmy the Vet RVN 1971
Oh to have 10% of that insane 60's talent.
Pure class. Timeless.
I LOVE PETE'S GUITAR WORK
Saw The Who a "thousand times " and, every time it was awesome! I was tired after seeing them from their energy.
I got this album as a kid in the early 70’s! It’s all I would listen to! I knew who’s next from the first note to the last! I still have the album it hangs in my garage in rough condition! What a milestone in music! Keith will always be my favorite drummer cause he was so different from every drummer before and since! Plus he was part clown part pure rock star! Great song on a perfect album!
January 2019...anyone listening?.....you should be🤩
valerie brady April 2019, listening roughly 45+ years now! 😎

logical .. one of the best rock band
The Kids are Alright! Still amazing in 2019.
God bless Keith Moon, he looks so sad and lost in this montage that my heart goes out to him.
Keith Moon was a g, i take a bong rip for him everyday!
Every time I hear this song I am transported back in time to the 1970s. Great time to be a kid. We all had long hair in those days, it was the law.
i remember blasting this on my blaster at the age of 15 passing by peoples houses at midnight hoping they would get it when they woke up,i hated my old man and hated my life and hated the mcewans i drank earlier, all my friends and family where scum the earth was doomed and stood for nothing anyway, now im happily married with childs,i wouldnt change nothing, love life!,its great!x
Black Sabbath invented metal.
W-James true! "my generation" sounds more like the first punk song to me
And can't explain. Kids are all right. Slipkids
Who's better who's best
@@w-james9277 Well, The Kinks invented distortion... Accidentaly...
The greatest rock band ever.
This is how it is. MAJESTIC.
Extreme Weather 8

Every month or 2, I come back and listen to this song again and its like I heard it for the first time again. Goosebumps all over I swear
grandes clássicos, grandes gênios do Rock! longo muito pois o curtir é curto mesmo rsrsrs
That crazy muppet drummer on the "muppets" TV show reminds me of Keith Moon.
I believe that Keith Moon was the inspiration for Animal of the Muppets
Wayne Templar KEITH MOON! Keith Moon Keith Moon Keith Moon! Haaaaa...^_^
Yes! Keith Moon lives on as Animal from the Muppets.
its the other way around
It's rumoured Animal was based on Mick Fleetwood
All of those bands are still writing and performing today, and arctic monkeys have 5 of the most consistently brilliant albums under their belt, and pearl jam and the strokes ushered in a new generation of music. all of these guys are going down in history as legends. they dont do bad songs
wow, so many awesome pics i've never seen before!! great, great post!! thanks!!
Who's Next was a great album, and you knew it was something special when it started with this song. Still one of my top five

merci merci merci à vous véritables Art Artistes! c'était en 1973 et je n'arrete pas de l'apprecier.
the ending part is my favorite omfg i love that tune, it makes me wanna dance around a campfire. it kinda reminds me of sherlock holmes ( the movie) because it sounds like gypsy music. so fucking uplifting man, so jovial. i love it, i wish it lasted longer
listen "the battle of evermore"... it's on the same planet...
